TROVANTS OF COSTESTI - ROMANIA The Trovants...or growing stones gives you a nearely ‘walking on the Moon’ feeling. Strange and so nice and unique....a have-to-see for every traveler. If you ask a geologist, they are only stone core with an outer shell of sand ....cement kind of...and they seems to grow after any rain. But for creative and dreamlike people, the trovants are an invitation to the game of imagination. Ana’s hints: 💰entrance costs: NOTHING 😃near by to see: - Horezu - fair wee town, house for Romanian ceramics —>9 km - Govora - romantic and colorfull old spa resort —> 20 km - One wood monastery - XV century monastery worth to see. Legend says was buit of only one oak tree —> 20 km to Frincesti 🍔where to eat: worth to go to Ramnicu Valcea, main town of the county. Special beautiful place with lots of restaurants choices💕. DELICIOUS!! 🔍land mark: ROMANIA - proud of my country🇹🇩

It's a very interesting place to vizit, but not organized. You can see a lot of big stones. The Trovanti are tiles with a harder texture than the layer in which they develop. It is near Ramnicu Valcea on the road to Horezu in Costesti. Nice for photoshoting.

Really interesting weird place! Strange rocks that look like sand but are hard and look like they grow. Something different and it's free!

Interesting place, not much to do there, but certainly worth the stop.

Outdoors museum. No entrance fee, open 24/7. Unfortunately there is no big sign revealing the entrance, so there is the possibility to pass by it and not realise where it is located. There is no parking close, we managed to park somehow across the street. There is a space with some wooden houses (probably selling some souvenirs, or a small market place).

Easy access from the road. Interesting stories about those masive stones genesis. I liked their "skin".

A small sand quarry where spherical and generally round rock formations were uncovered.

Second time I saw this kind of rocks. This museum is not very spectacular (Ulmeni is better) yet pay it a visit if you're around.

A small exhibition under the open sky. There are unique geological objects - trovants. These are large nodules formed several million years ago. They are not like simple stones in their shape and structure. Please note that the museum is located very inconveniently in terms of parking - you will have to cross a busy highway without a pedestrian crossing (

One of the most interesting places in Romania if you are interested in geology and is an admirer of stones, as me. That aria has them even in peoples yards in the neibourhood.Entrance is free.

Free. Close to nature with relevant information for access on site both in Romanian and English. The stones are beautiful and many different shapes and locations on site. No, they don't move quickly, only over the years and will probably take few more million years to grow, but it is a really interesting stop for both kids and grown ups. We enjoyed it.

The description of them sounds a lot more exciting than what they actually are: some stones which given the right conditions, can grow. Entry is free and there are a few benches and some parking spaces on the other side of the road.

If you look hard enough you’ll find the hiding place with the little book in it to mark your name. Really cool and fun idea! It can be a bit difficult to find but don’t give up!

There is a secret place here. There is a rock, way different, with age circles like a tree. Look around and you will see a hiding place with a little book where you can write your name as a visitor.

You can’t actually see them moove but their place changes from an year to another

It‘s hardly a museum. It is a place in the woods, very close to the road, where these rocks „grow“. But it looks cool, worth the visit. You can also find some small stones and wait for them to grow and move.
