Women are not allowed in, which is unacceptable. This is discrimination and it should be prohibited everywhere. Shame on you.

Before even reaching the monastery you are greeted with signs that further acces on the public road (which is not owned by the monastery) is strictly forbidden for women, due to that portion of the road being cursed. Plenty of helpful visitors are ready to explain this to you. Aside from being illegal this also means that women apparently cannot continue the blue-band marked trail that starts there (which ends at the Lotrisor waterfall). Technically nobody will (or can) stop you from continuing but it is ridiculous how this is even allowed by the county/municipality. To underline: the monastery is completely within their rights to refuse women entrance but NOT on a public road!

This is a very special, peaceful place. Only for men, but.

Great place!

Clean monastery in a gorgeous location with mountains all around it. There is free lunch to be grabbed if you would like (vegetable soup and a potato dish at the time I visited). The part of the monastery on top of the mountain is only allowing MEN - no women (which is strange and weird, but it's due to religious psalm). For women, there is a monastery just 2 km lower (first you reach this, then you go to the top) Getting there is not easy, the road's width is small and many times two cars will have a difficult time passing by each other. Even though there are signs claiming European funds are used to rebuild the road to the monastery, it has looked the same for the past year; the only thing new are the many EU signs posted.

Lost souls fiind peace among the Romanian Athos. Place is amazing, makes you smile and remembers you to be human.
