I am not visiting churches for religious reasons. We just passed by it and stopped to look at the architecture. In the back is a nice terrace with view at the Olt river. Last time I went here with my parents and mom bought candles to light (for live and dead as is traditional at churches) and we had a not very pleasant surprise to find out were 3 times more expensive than at a normal church. I hate that nowdays churches are more about the money than is about spirituality.

A lovely monastery founded in 1386 and still a monastery. Consequently there is much of Romanian history documented in the wall paintings of the chapel. The surrounding gardens are immaculately maintained. Easy place to find as it is next to the main road and consequently many people will be there to pay their respects and say a prayer for loved ones. Take time out to stop and visit.

Crowded most of the time. Tricky to find a parking spot. For a quiet place just enter, go left just in front of the church, there are some small steps that go down on the side of Olt River, down there are some beaches where you can spend some quiet time.

Mesmerising Monastery just in the the Balearic and relaxing town of Calimanesti

It was nice. Near a lake where you had the chance to take a ride with an engine powered boat. It was 30 lei i think. The monastery was beautiful too. Overall it was a free entry, so worth visiting

This monastery is also refreshing for a pit stop during a longer trip towards North or west of Romania. The church, the paintings, the tomb stones, the old kitchen, the access to Olt River are wonderful.

The 645 old church (rehabiliated and even expanded several times throughout its history) is a must visit if you are in the area. Either for its religious value or for its historical one (or both). Taking pictures inside is prohibited but if you're here for admiring a work done centuries ago you could focus on studying the arhitecture and the paintings instead of taking pictures. The tomb of Mircea the Elder as well as the mother of Mihai the Brave are both found on the right after the entrance in the church. You can find religious relics in the monastery's museum, mostly old icons painted on wood.

The tranquil monastery along the Olt is nearly beyond words. It's a hidden gem and one to be appreciated with reverence and awe. Thankful that this well maintained site is open to visits. There is a fascinating museum in the back corner of the site. Interior photographing of the chapel is not permitted. Parking and toilet are available just before the entrance.

Beautiful place. We made a quick stop on our way to Sibiu and found a great church. I the painting inside is surprising so I strongly recommend to get in. They don't charge for pictures or entrance ad in other places. The toilets weren't opened when we went.

Mănăstirea se afla în Calimanesti- Căciulata .Partea din spate a Mănăstirii coboară pana pe malul râului Olt. Am vizitat intrând din oraș partea din fata, dar și din vaporaș, de pe rau, partea din spate. În biserica se afla mormântul lui Mircea cel Batran. Biserica este veche, un loc istoric, iar restul construcțiilor, chiliile arata ca noi, albe. Curtea este foarte mare și plina de verdeata, plina de turiști care se odihneau pe iarba.
