My visit to Pestera Sfântului Antonie de la Iezer (Cave of Saint Anthony of Iezer) was a truly transformative experience that blended natural beauty with spiritual contemplation. Tucked away in the pristine landscapes of Romania, this cave holds a deep sense of tranquility and offers a unique opportunity for introspection. As I approached the entrance of the cave, I was greeted by the serene sounds of nature. The gentle rustling of leaves and the distant echoes of flowing water created a peaceful atmosphere that instantly set the tone for my visit. The cave's natural surroundings, nestled amidst lush forests and rolling hills, added to its allure and sense of mystique. Venturing inside, I found myself in a world of mesmerizing rock formations and ethereal darkness. The cave's interior revealed intricate stalactites and stalagmites that had formed over thousands of years, resembling delicate works of art crafted by nature itself. Illuminated by soft lighting, the cave's beauty came to life, captivating my senses and evoking a sense of awe. Pestera Sfântului Antonie de la Iezer holds deep spiritual significance, as it is dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua. As I explored the cave, I couldn't help but feel a profound sense of peace and serenity. It was as if the walls of the cave held a spiritual energy, inviting introspection and a deeper connection with oneself. Within the cave, there is a small chapel dedicated to Saint Anthony, creating a sacred space for prayer and reflection. The flickering candles and the hushed atmosphere added to the ambiance of reverence. It was a moment to pause, to offer gratitude, and to find solace in the presence of something greater. The cave's location, surrounded by untouched nature, offers an ideal setting for those seeking a retreat from the distractions of everyday life. The peacefulness and seclusion provide an opportunity to disconnect from the noise of the world and reconnect with one's inner self. It is a place where one can find solace, gain clarity, and seek spiritual nourishment. It's important to note that visiting Pestera Sfântului Antonie de la Iezer requires respect and mindfulness towards the natural environment and the spiritual significance of the site. It is advised to adhere to any guidelines or instructions provided by the caretakers to ensure the preservation of the cave and its surroundings. For those in search of a unique blend of natural beauty and spiritual contemplation, Pestera Sfântului Antonie de la Iezer offers an unforgettable experience. It is a sanctuary of serenity that invites visitors to delve into the depths of nature and their own souls, leaving them with a renewed sense of peace, clarity, and reverence.

The Iezer Hermitage is a historical and religious monument located 24 km from Râmnicu Vâlcea, being one of the most isolated monastic settlements in the north of Oltenia. The construction of the hermitage was started in 1552 by Mircea Ciobanul, the voivode of Wallachia, and finished in 1568 by his wife, Doamna Chiajna, probably next to or on the site of an older wooden hermitage dating from the 14th century. Currently the hermitage comprises the old church, a bell tower and cells on three sides with a new church. Over time, the hermitage deteriorated, being abandoned and rebuilt several times. The old church, located in the middle of the inner courtyard, has a simple nave shape, without a spire and the patron saint "Entry into the church of the Mother of God" (November 21). The interior painting dates from 1714 and the pediment has three icons from 1703 painted in Byzantine style. Originally inhabited by monks, since 1946 the hermitage has a community of nuns. The new church (chapel) was built in the period 1996-1999, being included in the body of cells on the northern side. It is dedicated to "Transfiguration before God" and "St. Pious Anthony of Iezer" and houses the reliquary with the Holy Relics of St. Pious Anthony of Iezer, canonized in 1992 and celebrated on November 23.

Beautiful. Off the beaten track. We really enjoyed our visit here but we recommend taking food with you as there isn't anywhere nearby to buy food and drink.

Very quiet, in the wilderness, beautiful nature all around, the road is not.paved but worth the trip, make sure you visit Saint Antonie's cave as well.
