Short history: Important medieval historical monument from the south-east of Europe, Cotmeana Monastery is the oldest church - monastery from Wallachia. Being build in its first appearance by Radu I - ruller of Wallachia (1337-1383) - the church was build by Mircea the Old (1386 -1418) between the years 1387 - 1389 being an excellent place of halt on the road between Pitesti and Cozia Monastery. It is one of the most important foundations of the voivode Mircea the Old having as a special festival the Annunciation (25th March) and the Beheading of St. John the Baptist (29th August) My opinion: To be honest I stopped just for a short break of driving. I had to go out of the main road but it worth. This is a great peaceful place and brings you the idea of how this churches were build in the past. Impressive thick walls and cozy place.

If you want to find the real peace and silence you have to go there...it is sublime!

Beautiful old monastery that acted as a fortress back in the day. Lots of history in it. There was a guy that offered info about it and acted as a guide. Very nice.
