(Translated by Google) We were very pleasantly impressed by the titanic work done for the restoration of this monument. From a sordid place, it was transformed into a historical novel. I noticed the cleanliness and order from the entrance, from the outside. The Museum and the Throne Room, imposing, both through the presented elements, loaded with history, even if they are reconstructed. The staff, very empathetic, comes to meet us with unique explanations about places and events. At least the lady custodian who was in the Throne Room today, through the warmth with which she spoke to us, determined us to already think about the next visit we will make in the same place. Wonderful people! Only if you are in love with the Citadel can you do that! Last but not least, we want to emphasize that the toilets are so clean and so fragrant, as we have not seen in 5-star restaurants. Congratulations to the manager and the entire staff.

I wanted to go there for a very long time. It’s a great and beautiful fortress and palace but painfully visibly restored (or should I say: being restored, even rebuilt?) The museums inside host quite interesting exhibitions, albeit local: some archeology, documents, folklore, art, including modern local artists. I was kind of disappointed by not seeing too much about the decade of 50’ when the castle was Stalinist prison and murder house. There was one exhibition on women helping the anti-communist resistance movement, though.

a place of history, beautifully restored and furnished. Tickets can only be purchased from the ticket office set up at the entrance to the citadel. The first documentary news attesting to the existence of the stone citadel is from 1455. It has an entire history full of events that you can find out from the guide in the citadel.

A well preserved castle in which the renovation still continues. It has some parts which have to be better presented! A museum is in the first floor of the castle with many interesting exhibits!!! You have to visit it on the way to Brasov or on the way to Sibiu!!! Ticket is 4€ per person.

Definitely worth a short detour. The fortress is surrounded by a moat and looks spectacular from the outside. The inner fortress has been refurbished and hosts a museum with an eclectic set of exhibits. The outer fortress - the outside walls and outdoor spaces are unfortunately not yet open to the public.

The fortress is very beautiful. The price is 30lei/person or 10lei/student. And you can visit outside and also the museum inside. Not everything is translated to english this is why I give it 4 stars. Keep in mind that is still in renovation, there are only few parts in renovation, so if you are living close to it I would say to wait for it, otherwise is worth visiting.

Lots of history. The castle was never conquered. Not all original though. But splendid, especially for its age.

From the outside it looks like a fortress like all the others, renovated. But when you entered, you stepped into another time. It is very nicely decorated and every room leaves you speechless. I wholeheartedly recommend!

Refurbished medieval castle, for sure it did not follow the same technology like the medieval one, but the castle looks good. There is bad maintenance from the state, pigeon mess on the walls and basic wall painting every year is not done. There was a medieval festival which was good for little kids to show them the dressing and habits of people in that era.

Beautifully restored citadel and a very interesting visit. An example on how a historical objective can be renovated and reintegrated in the touristic route. The "Fagaras County Museum" is top notch.

Fagaras citadel is a medieval citadel where Lady Stanca, Mihai The Brave's wife had her residence. It is very well preserved. You must see it if you visit Fagaras Town. Insidethe citadel is the history museum and town's library, as well. It has a beautiful lake that sorounds it and a nice promenade.

The fortress is impressive, but cannot be visited since it is closed. I think it is in a restoration process. When I visited it there were workers. I remember a couple of years ago it was closed too. Who knows when it will be opened.. So you can stop near it, have a look, take some pictures, admire a monument near the entrance to the fortress and continue your trip.

Great experience. The citadel has been beautifully renovated until now, they are still working on the main entrance and the exterior of the citadel. Still is worth visiting it. It has a part of the museum where the prison and / or dungeons used to be. The main museum it's in the newly renovated area, the entrance costs aprox 4€, it has a lot rooms and various exhibitions. So if you are in the area make time to visit this beautiful citadel.

A beautifully restored citadel (process still not finished, so you can only visit parts of it), with a picturesque moat, an interesting museum and a nice inner courtyard of stone.

A trip in the past. The fortress has been reconditioned. Part of it harbours a museum but they are working on getting more of it available to the public.

Amazing place and very well kept. Unfortunately not all the boards had English translations, and not too many information posted with regards to the rooms and the utility. It was under renovation, but it was still nice and the history behind it makes it twice interesting.

If you are interested in local history and culture then you will spend about two hours visiting this place. What you will find in this beautiful renovated fortress: artefacts from the Dacian culture before the Roman conquest, items from the medieval times, including documents, weapons, torture chamber, live and style objects and more. You will have the opportunity to see the local German community art and design of furniture, garments and household items. It is remarkable the effort done to restore the building and the rooms. The new stained glass windows representing different Romanian coat of arms are outstanding. Four stars because of poor lights on small items like coins which could have a drawing aside for better understanding. Also an audio guide would be nice to have. All together, worth the time and trip to visit. PS At the time of this review, the main gate is in reconstruction.

The fortress that has never been conquered! A beautiful medieval citadel, very well restored and with a very friendly and professional tour guides. Don't miss the swans on the lake! They are also part of its charm and fortress!

Dating back to the 12th century when Fagaras Fortress was originally a wooden structure. The castle and fortress have been added to over the centuries with stone towers, buildings and a moat. The fortress was owned by princes for centuries and in the 17th century was a luxurious venue for entertaining and guests before becoming a military and Unitarian building for holding prisoners and torture. In 1918 the property was transferred into ownership of the Romanian Statr. 1948 to 1962 the fortress and castle were transformed into a communist prison. Nearby to the fortress is a pretty monastery. Entry was 15 lei per adult (Feb 2020). Would be nice if fort car and security car were parked out of view. Detracts a little from the otherwise photogenic entrance. Well worth a visit and close to Brasov or the Transfăgărășan Highway.

If you travel to Brasov, make a stop to Fagaras. The fortress is amazing and you can take photos inside for free. Ticket in 15 lei

Not completely reconditioned, but still plenty to see. There are also two museums in the interior which are interesting to visit. Less touristy when compared to other fortresses in the area.

Beautiful and interesting fortress, worth visiting if you are in the town of Fagaras. Positive : a great historical place with a impressive museum and a nice place to relax if you walk around the castle to admire the surrounding lake on wich are swimming beautiful swans. Negative : nothing worth mentioning Suggestions : no

Plenty of interesting rooms to visit inside the palace. Would have been even more interesting if we had at least an audio guide to explain what we were looking at. The torture chambers had some spooky stories and the interior court is quite majestic. Worth mentioning they are currently restoring some parts of the fortress, which are temporarily unavailable to the public.

(Translated by Google) At the northern foot of the Fagaras Mountains, on the left bank of the Olt River, lies the town of Fagaras, in the middle of which is a castle surrounded by moats. I visited the city in 2016 and only from the outside, but I also visited the castle. Unfortunately, due to time constraints, I didn’t have the opportunity to go in and walk around properly, but it was still a great experience to be there. You can park your car in front of the castle because it is located in the plains and its access is very simple and convenient.

Great place to spend of hours. Kids loved all the information and exhibits. The outside is also great to walk around and take beautiful pictures. It will be even better when more parts of the fort is open as there is still some contraction happening. Also go to the beautiful orthodox golden church nearby!
