I was pretty happy with this museum considering the relatively smaller size of it. It contained very pristine aircraft and was well designed with a nice layout. There is an outside patio that you come across along the tour. You can grab a bite from a limited menu and eat in the open air. I left feeling that there could have been more but I'm happy it exists to experience. Enter with the right expectations and you'll be happy with your decision. Enjoy if you decide to take the journey.

Lots of cool stuff to see and interactive displays, from early aviation to space travel. Lots to learn, very informative . But if I had to pick between the museum and visiting Midway I'd choose the Midway.

This was easily my favorite museum in San Diego. Admission is $25 for an adult. There is a lot to see here. Very educational and informative. You can plan to spend at least a couple hours here if you look and read or like an hour or less if you just walk without reading. Employees were pleasant and helpful if you ever had any questions. Parking is free if you’re driving.

This place was interesting, informative, and very well thought out. I only spent a few hours here, but I could easily have spent a whole day if I had time. Each exhibit is a high quality replica or restoration of the vehicle and there are always plaques with some well researched information. It’s easy to spend 10+ minutes per exhibit lost in awe at the marvelous engineering of the time. I definitely would like to come back and see more. Even if you aren’t interested is air & space, the historical background of each display is amazing to marvel at. This is an easy 10 out of 10 for me.

We spent the day in Balboa Park and this was our first, and best, stop. So much history in this space! Among the many aircraft, saw the original Apollo 9 capsule, a GPS satellite and a police car from 9-11. Enjoyed the Galileo exhibit located right where you enter (set up perfectly for students!). We ran into a great volunteer guide that gave us a load of information that made the visit more entertaining. The only negative is that this museum does not have AC, and we visited during the very hot and humid week (Sept 8) San Diego (and all southern CA) was experiencing. They did have the large fans going, but it didn’t help too much. However, the museum was so fascinating, we stayed to experience it, hot weather or not. If you visit Balboa Park, make this your first stop. It’s in the back of the park, and there is plenty of parking. There is a free shuttle that will take you in other areas of the park that runs every 15 minutes or so.

What a great experience for the whole family! The place was unexpectedly large! So many great things to see and do. The entire family really enjoyed our experience here! The only downside is that I wish the tickets were a tad bit more affordable. We spent almost $100 on a family of 4.

Very cool. Always fun to geek out on stuff like this, and they have put on a good show here. Added bonus is that the flight simulator was only $8 a person, it's twice that price at the USS Midway. Excellent experience all around, and we'll be going back!

Phenomenal museum with plenty of life-sized planes hanging throughout the place. Lots of educational experiences to practice “making” a plane, learn about different types of aviation, and discover the history of aircraft. Free parking is also easily accessible throughout all of Balboa Park but some lots may be full so you’ll have to walk up to 10 minutes

This was an excellent Museum but because of a fire back in the 70s a lot of original display planes and items were lost. They have done a super job replacing them and with beatutiful reproductions and the displays are laid out very intelligently with enough information to make them interesting as you walk by and not overload you with information. I actually rate this Museum at 4 to 4.5 Stars

What a great museum. It was perfect for adults and for kids. There were lots of displays, plenty of information available, and interactive games and experiences available to break things up a bit. We really enjoyed this museum, and wished we could have spent a couple of more hours here. We spent about 2 hours here in total, but probably could have spent about 4 or more.

A fun and enjoyable place to know the history of flying and space traveling. There is a session introducing the starting area of modern science, which started from Copernicus, to Kepler and Galileo. It presents ways in which we know our world with more precise data and repeated experiments. Also, there are many models of various kinds of previous airplanes hanging over your head. It is interesting to watch. The part about space traveling is even better. A lot of information and very friendly staff will answer all questions you may have. They are quite knowledgeable and experienced! Kudos!

It was so nice to see this museum open. The once free for all is now organized to have the crowd flow through out. You do not miss anything. A new auto greeter starts you off and I swear he looked right at me, lol. A few free simulation machines in the middle and at the end simulation machine to let you experience a jet or older plane. Quite reasonable at least than $10 each. Go with friends and family or go alone, you will not regret it!

The museum is small by the standards set by outdoor air museums or the Smithsonian, but it's mighty for what it is. Nestled in a building from the World's Fair, the classic architecture lends itself to a smooth chronology of air and space history. Many planes are recreations of the original historic planes, but the quality of them, and the details in the exhibits are really excellent. I really recommend talking to the volunteer docents about the history encased in their museum section. We talked to a lovely man, Ron, who walked us through all of WWI and the planes and information the museum had. And he would find us in different parts of the museum to offer addition tidbits here and there. We easily spend 1.5-2 hours there.

Lots of history and airplane models in this museum as well as computer interaction model creation for kids to drive the airplane that they modeled. Review the histories for different period of time about the airplane evolvement. Great and education place for kids to visit. However, I recommend the air space museum in Washington DC better. Here it’s smaller and more dated.

It was a very cool place to visit. A lot to see and learn and there's a little bit of interaction to do around. Kid friendly museum, it has cool discounts for everyone,. I wish they will put more newer stuff too, like new type of planes, things like that. We definitely enjoyed it, and might go back once in a while.

Took grandkids thinking I could ditch them for a while by hiding in restroom. Instead I found the entire museum fascinating. Five year old granddaughter loved it. It’s a whole day walk through mind you and worth every minute. Take good walking shoes 👟

Loved it! My 6 year old son loved it! I'm a native San Diegan who has been going here since I was a kid. It gets better and better. From the original Apollo 9 capsule to gorgeous examples of WW1 and WW2 aircraft, this museum is laid our brilliantly. For all ages, it has great hands on/climb in things for kids including two flight simulators where u can fly one of the blue angels. Conveniently located in Balboa Park and with plenty of parking, it's a must see for anyone!

Great museum! Lots of wonderful information and little hidden gems. A LOT of planes! If you go too fast, you'll miss them, look up! The 4-D tour was really cool, and the gentlemen there are packed with knowledge and can tell you a lot! Can't wait for the additional exhibit they're adding to it!

I love Space..the journey out of this world to the next. I grew up with Mercury, Gemini and Apollo and any time I can see some artifacts from that time I jump at the chance. To see the Apollo 9 Command Module, Neil Armstrong’s space suit and other memorabilia was great. Oh, did I mention they also have a tremendous amount of early aeronautics too?! See the Spirit of St Louis replica and the jet Chuck Yeager broke the sound barrier in…worth the mo EY (and the time!!)

Sr 71 and rare navy water launched fighter at entrance. Nice interior displays as well. Easy parking and other things around this museum. I came specifically for this museum but found other stuff to do here. Nice mockup of an aircraft carrier inside also. Space related items as well.

An interesting Air Museum The San Diego Automotive Museum is in the amazing Balboa Park next to the San Diego Automotive Museum. There are a lot of old WWI & WWII real scale airplanes (some are real I think) on display scattered throughout (and overhead), you can also find some activities for kids. Most of its exhibits were related to air and not so much on space, the name (air and space) suggested a lot more space therefore it has been a disappointment to me.

Great museum! Highly recommend their 4D movie. I felt like I was flying in the sky. The interactive games are also well designed to help people learn how to design a drone, a spacecraft, even a space station. Btw, it is also a great location to observe the air planes taking off from the airport. Some can be really close and appear to be very big.

Great museum located in Balba Park! Some of the best refurbished planes I've ever had the pleasure of seeing and the fact they have the capsule from Apollo 9 makes it even better. Thwy have hands-on exhibits for the kids . Price is reasonable.

This place is great! Lots of aircraft to see and informative regarding history of military and commercial planes. The low flying airplanes outside is a bonus! Check out the museum on the free Tuesday for San Diego county residents. It's the 2nd Tuesday of each month.

Excellent museum, especially if you are an aviation/space nerd. Lots of stuff for kids to enjoy, especially the mock fighter jet cockpits and simulation. It's not a huge place. It will take a couple of hours if you take time to read and enjoy each exhibit.

A wonderful place to learn about the history of aviation from the first plane to space flights. Took my nieces here. Showed them there are many women pioneers who helped pave the way for others in the field. There are many activities here for people of all ages to enjoy and learn. Plan to spend 2 to 3 hours at least to learn about the amazing history of aviation.

Excellent to bring the family. Make sure to hit the Blue Angels flight simulator. You will have a blast!

Great place to learn about the history of Aviation and Aeropace flight. Just need more information on Women of Aviation and minority pilots (Tuskegee Airmen) who contributed to Aviation. Besides that point the A/C needs to be fixed just to cut the humidty while walking around the bldg.

We had a blast at this museum! The best part was the tour guide by the WW2 planes. I believe his name was Verne. He was very knowledgeable, sweet & made my two daughters laugh while learning. There is tons of great pieces of history here. If you haven't visited, you should!

  • 5/5 Brittany H. 2 years ago on Google

Nice exhibits. Interesting information. However it was a warm and low humidity day. If you are not use to dry heat or your clothes sticking to you, I would caution when you visit. Early morning may be better. The day we visited it was Food Truck Friday. There were a lot of options, there was free music and dancing. It was a nice summer evening.

This is a really fun and worthwhile attraction, with lots of aviation, space, military, and other American history. Our entire family loved it! Plus they have 4D movies and realistic flight simulators! Would highly recommend this attraction if you're in Balboa Park, or otherwise looking for something to do in SD especially on a rainy day.

  • 5/5 Chip M. 2 years ago on Google
Absolutely loved this museum! They have an actual blue jet!! Lots of other notable displays to take in. Living in the DC metro area, where we have ready access to the national air and space museum and the Udvar Hazy facility at Dulles Airport, one might think we had all the good stuff here... not so. Go check it out!

  • 5/5 RACHEL W. 2 years ago on Google
Very interactive! I recommend 2-3 hours mid-morning during the week. Super great museum for small groups or homeschool events. Staff are scattered throughout and know a TON of info about the exhibits, ask questions and have fun!

  • 5/5 Britani D. 2 years ago on Google
Fantastic museum full of more information than can be consumed in one day. There are exhibits and activities for all members of the family. In addition to the "walk, look and read"-type displays, there is a 3D-4D movie theater and a kid's area for younger museum goers to enjoy. Tickets aren't cheap, however if you're a San Diego resident and frequent Balboa park visitor, the Explorer Pass might be a better baby for the buck.

  • 5/5 Trending N. 2 years ago on Google
I'm local to San Diego but I decided to check out this museum before my out of town visitors arrive next month. The displays are outstanding and there is no shortage of what to look at. The historical displays on walls and boards give very detailed and accurate information. From the ceiling hangs so many examples of aviation history. There's a PSA display about that airline and the crash into North Park. There's military planes, biplanes and so much more. It's $23 for an adult but if you're military it's golden 🇺🇸

  • 5/5 Joseph S. 2 years ago on Google
A must place to visit here. It will take 2 to 3 hours to complete. You can learn a lot, watch a 4D movie and also rice a virtual roller-coaster or fly over San Diego. A great experience

  • 4/5 Gail Z. 1 year ago on Google
Fairly fun. The temporary Galileo exhibit was lots of fun since it was mostly hands on experiments beside simple descriptions of the physics. The siege exhibit was also really cool with a simulator for landing the space shuttle and a trivia game. I'm more interested in space flights than aircraft so I spent most of my time on that section of the museum. The airplane section was a lot larger than the space exhibit so I think it could be good if you're interested in airplanes. I wasn't quite prepared for the 9/11 exhibit but it was interesting and informative. Smallish museum but we spent a couple of hours reading placards and playing with the exhibits you were allowed to.

Such an awesome place to spend a couple of hours. Our 3.5 year old had an absolute blast. There's a special kid's area with fun stuff to do, cool displays that are interactive and exciting, and plenty of opportunities to sit for a few minutes if you need a break. We combined this museum with a visit to the Natural History Museum, which was also amazing, and it was a great way to spend the whole day learning and exploring concepts and machines.

  • 5/5 Sergio O. 1 year ago on Google
Loved it! All the exhibits are amazing and the flight simulators at the end are incredibly realistic. Warning though. If you are skewed towards a fanatic on catholicism, you might be disappointed of the Galileo exhibit, which, our family was the one we liked the most... extremely interesting.

The San Diego Air & Space Museum is an incredible destination for aviation and space enthusiasts of all ages. The museum is conveniently located in Balboa Park, near several other popular attractions. I recently visited the museum and was thoroughly impressed by the quality and depth of the exhibits. The museum houses an impressive collection of aircraft and spacecraft, including replicas of famous planes and rockets. The exhibits are informative and engaging, with interactive displays that allow visitors to learn more about the science behind flight and space travel. Some of my favorite exhibits included the Apollo 9 spacecraft and the replica of the Wright Brothers' 1903 Flyer. In addition to the exhibits, the museum also offers educational programs and events. I attended a lecture on the history of aviation that was both informative and entertaining. The museum also has a planetarium that offers shows throughout the day. The staff at the San Diego Air & Space Museum are friendly and knowledgeable. They were happy to answer any questions I had and provided great recommendations for other attractions to visit in the area. Overall, I highly recommend visiting the San Diego Air & Space Museum. It's a must-see destination for anyone interested in aviation and space travel.

Wow. This place has so much on space in the beginning, from interactive activities to amazing displays. Later it proceeds to go through the history of aviation, from WW1 to WW2, from the German Ace Manfred von Richthofen to the Luftwaffe.

San Diego Air and Space museum, located centrally in Balboa Park, is an amazing tour through modern history. An animated Charles Lindberg alongside the famous Spirit of St Louis airplane greets visitors as they enter. Actual aircraft and replicas are suspended in mid air and staged along a stunning walkway. Vehicles, life-size figures and even a Charles Schultz style Snoopy dog atop his Red Baron doghouse help the experience come to life. The walk culminates with an exit into a gorgeous, glass atrium with planes, vehicles, fountains and a stage intended for private parties or events. Virtual Reality simulators await the brave adventurer too! For the grounded traveler, a small, soothing outdoor balcony provides a magnificent view of San Diego Downtown along with cold beer, food and snacks for sale. Great for everyone! Bring the kids and Grandma.
