In
the
second
wave
of
COVID-19,
which
was
more
brutal
and
fatal,
many
persons
lost
their
loved
ones
and
the
fact
that
hit
hard
was
that
nobody
could
bid
a
proper
farewell
to
their
loved
ones.
I
am
sharing
this
here
as
my
family
has
also
been
grossly
affected
by
this
wave
of
COVID
โ
19,
however,
by
the
Godโs
grace
and
doctorsโ
enormous
efforts,
we
survived
this
deadly
storm.
My
father-in-law
tested
Covid
positive
in
the
last
week
of
April,
2021
in
Ranchi
and
though
he
took
prescribed
medicines,
his
condition
became
bad
to
worst
within
2-3
days.
As
soon
as
he
started
facing
difficulty
in
breathing,
a
HRCT
Thorax
was
done
immediately
and
the
CT
severity
score
of
23/25,
which
later
deteriorated
to
25/25,
was
enough
to
put
us
in
jitters.
I
would
just
like
to
remind
that
this
was
the
time
when
there
was
a
huge
scarcity
of
ICU
beds
in
the
hospitals
be
it
private
or
govt.
Arrangement
of
oxygen
cylinders
too
was
a
herculean
task
at
that
time.
Soaked
in
nervousness
and
helplessness,
we
knocked
the
doors
of
every
hospital
of
the
city
but
all
our
efforts
went
in
vain.
But
then,
my
heartfelt
thanks
goes
to
RAJ
Hospitals,
Main
Road,
Ranchi.
An
experienced
team
of
doctors
including
Dr.
Mohib
Ahmed
(Anaesthesiologist
&
HOD
of
Critical
Care
Unit),
Dr.
Fuzail
Sarwer
(Anaesthesiologist
and
specialist
in
Trauma
Care
&
Emergency
cases)
and
Dr.
Gunjan,
led
by
Dr.
A.K.
Sinha
(Cardiologist
and
Specialist
in
Chest
Pain)
at
Raj
Hospitals
not
only
immediately
got
my
father-in-law
admitted,
but
also
provided
him
with
an
ICU
bed
with
all
necessary
support
(NIV
mask)
and
emergent
medicines
such
as
Remdesivir,
Cizumab,
Steroids
etc.
But
my
father-in-lawโs
condition
was
so
critical
that
there
was
no
way,
other
than
to
put
him
on
mechanical
ventilator
support.
He
remained
on
life
support
system
for
a
considerable
period
of
time
i.e.
about
one
month.
His
stay
in
critical
care
unit
(HICU/ICU/HDU)
in
the
hospital
was
for
about
a
period
of
four
months.
During
his
stay,
regular
diagnosis
(HRCT
Thorax,
Chest
X
Ray,
PCT
levels,
CBC,
LFT,
KFT
etc.)
necessary
for
monitoring
COVID
infection
and
its
effects,
was
done,
as
advised
by
the
doctors.
Many
minor
and
major
procedures,
such
as
Central
Line
insertion,
ICD
insertions
to
cure
recurrent
pneumothorax,
Continuous
Ventilator
management
were
effectively
carried
out
by
the
above
mentioned
team
of
doctors.
An
efficient
and
prompt
intensive
care
management
was
in
place.
During
this
tough
phase
of
life,
Dr.
Mohib
Ahmed
and
Dr.
Fuzail
Sarwer
used
to
counsel
and
console
us
regularly
and
their
views
were
always
optimistic
towards
the
treatment
and
recovery
of
my
father-in-law,
despite
his
critical
illness
and
poor
lungs
prognosis.
Finally,
a
day
came,
when
the
supreme
lordโs
mercy
poured
on
us
and
hard
work
of
doctors
paid
off
and
we
got
our
dear
one
discharged
from
the
hospital
in
the
last
week
of
August.
We
are
and
will
always
be
grateful
to
Raj
Hospitals
and
its
team
of
doctors
for
their
excellent
and
comprehensive
treatment.
However,
I
would
like
to
mention
a
few
areas
that
need
to
be
improved.
To
begin
with,
Nursing
services
in
the
critical
care
unit,
be
it
HDU
or
ICU
or
HICU,
are
very
poor.
All
the
nurses
in
the
said
unit,
except
a
few
ones,
are
not
well
behaved
and
are
negligent
towards
their
duty.
They
are
neither
kind
to
the
patient
nor
to
the
patientโs
attendant,
which
totally
defies
the
occupation
of
nursing.
In
addition
to
that,
after
Dr.
Mohib
and
Dr.
Fuzail
leave
the
hospital
in
the
evening,
there
are
no
efficient
floor
doctors
(not
being
judgemental)
available
at
night.
Also,
there
is
a
lack
of
co-ordination
between
the
reception
and
other
departments/floors.
These
issues
need
to
be
taken
up
by
the
management.
Despite
these
problems,
I
had
a
nice
experience
of
the
hospital
and
I
express
my
gratitude
towards
the
doctors
for
saving
my
father-in-lawโs
life.
Thanks
and
Regards,
Manish
Agrawal
