Sunrise
Blvd
Animal
Hospital
put
my
girl
dogās
quality
of
life
over
the
possibility
of
making
$6,000-7,000
off
me.
I
scheduled
an
appointment
simply
to
get
a
2nd
opinion.
Two
of
their
veterinarians
&
the
cardiologist
they
work
with
all
contributed
to
my
decision
not
to
have
the
surgery
at
this
time.
Let
me
explain,
her
last
vet
found
a
mass
on
her
spleen
and
quoted
$6-7,000
with
2-3
dayās
hospitalization
to
remove
it.
Since
my
previous
dog
had
his
spleen
removed
w/o
the
need
for
hospitalization
I
figured
it
was
their
ācorporate
protocolā
to
pre-determine
the
need
for
3
days
of
hospitalization
prior
to
seeing
how
she
did.
So
I
decided
to
get
the
2nd
opinion.
Sunrise
Blvd
Animal
Hospital
suggested
a
chest
X-ray
w/the
rationale
that
if
the
mass
was
cancerous
and
had
already
spread
I
might
want
to
consider
whether
I
wanted
to
put
her
through
a
painful
surgery
or
not.
They
noticed
her
heart
was
enlarged
&
the
echocardiogram
showed
2
heart
conditions
resulting
in
3
of
her
4
heart
valves
not
sealing
properly.
The
cardiologist
recommended
not
putting
her
under
anesthesia
at
that
time.
They
put
her
on
meds
and
recommended
she
have
a
repeat
echocardiogram
in
3
months.
Thankfully
the
meds
resolved
the
symptoms
I
had
attributed
to
her
spleen
mass
and
her
quality
of
life
has
returned.
Itās
only
been
1
1/2
months
&
I
donāt
know
how
long
she
has
left
but
she
likely
wouldnāt
have
survived
being
put
under
anesthesia
with
her
heart
having
to
work
so
hard.
The
vet
pointed
out
that
although
they
canāt
guarantee
the
mass
isnāt
cancer,
the
cytology
done
by
her
previous
vet
did
not
indicate
cancerous
cells.
So
it
seems
the
risk
of
not
removing
the
mass
is
likely
lower
than
the
risk
of
putting
her
under
anesthesia.
We
can
re-evaluate
after
her
next
echocardiogram.
I
have
an
anxious
rescue
Pitbull.
Weāve
tried
several
veterinarians
before
finding
Sunrise
Blvd
Animal
Hospital,
she
actually
wags
her
tail
there
instead
of
tucking
it
like
she
did
everywhere
else.
She
likes
their
staff,
techs
and
doctors
letting
them
examine
her
rather
than
tensing
every
muscle
so
they
canāt
feel
anything
or
escaping
and
running
behind
me.
I
am
grateful
for
all
who
work
there.
Update
4/18/23
for
those
who
may
have
worried
that
the
wrong
choice
was
made
for
my
Beautiful
Mattie
girl
dog.
Unfortunately
her
spleen
mass
started
bleeding
into
her
abdomen.
I
took
her
to
an
emergency
veterinary
hospital
(it
was
a
Sunday).
They
didnāt
recommend
surgery
b/c
it
was
āvery
high
riskā
but
the
option
of
euthanasia
made
the
risk
worthwhile
b/c
it
wasnāt
about
the
money.
Well
Dr
Hacia
and
Dr
McFarlane
along
with
the
cardiologist
they
contract
with
(forgot
name
sorry)
were
right.
Her
heart
wasnāt
strong
enough
to
be
put
under
anesthesia.
So
in
my
view
they
gave
me
more
quality
time
with
my
girl
than
I
would
have
had
if
I
listened
to
her
original
veterinary
hospital.
I
also
want
to
say
the
staff
were
very
thoughtful
and
kind
afterwards.
Corporations
are
taking
over
the
field
of
veterinary
medicine
but
itās
refreshing
to
know
that
Dr
Hacia
&
the
staff
remain
true
to
their
callings
and
put
patient
care
above
profits.
Which
if
corporations
paid
any
attention
thatās
what
brings
in
and
keeps
clients/customers/patients.
Thank
you
to
all
who
met
&
cared
for
my
Mattie
girl.
