    Absolutely shocking service and attempted fraud. Flew from the UK to SA in Oct. Rented a car, swapped said car within days. But rented a car for 29 days. No issues. Handed the car back, and then a few days later whilst back in the UK, I get a phone call telling me I owe them money for hail damage. I wasn't in any bad weather. But I challenged the phone call, via Customer Services and on Facebook Messanger Service and to date haven't heard anything back. They attempted to deduct 3 different amounts from my bank without permision. Still waiting to hear from them. I asked for photos and a investigation as they would not tell me which car apparently sustained damage. Useless thieving scumbags. Trying to rob from unsuspecting tourists. Ruined the whole holiday and put yet another stain on South Africa.

    Check-in service is very nice and promising. But the quality of their cars is definitely not up to standard. I had two cars break down on me while I was renting them for 3 weeks, and I was told it was my responsibility to return the car'S and exchange it for a new one. So there goes my holiday, just driving their broken vehicles around. I requested an upgrade but was simply ignored and received the first broken car back. I use Avis every time I go to South Africa, and this will definitely be the last.

    I paid for a VW Polo and this is what I got. Not the best service. Had to wait almost an hour to pick up this vehicle st OR Tambo.

    Check in was great but check out what a disaster. They donโ€™t charge the exact amount but round it when paying by card. So make sure when converting money before to have a bit extra. Got charged a second time because they did not account for my payment at the agency! But how come! You are an international renowned company but donโ€™t work like itโ€ฆ

    I wouldn't be surprised if an investigation of this company in a few years time shows extortionate amounts of money STOLEN from the public without the correct protocol and systems in place. I am a South African living in the United Kingdom. Decided to go home with my partner for a holiday and rented a car with Avis. We hit a pot hole and had to exchange car as there was a flat tire which I paid to repair myself - received email saying damage WAS COVERED by insurance. 2 weeks later ยฃ427 taken from my account without any invoicing. I have a business where patient card details are on our programs and systems. We never take money out of patient accounts without WRITTEN or VERBAL CONSENT (WITH) appropriate invoicing details. IT IS ILLEGAL to sway from this protocol. FRAUDULANT and CRIMINAL! Unbelievable service. How an investigation into this company hasn't taken place is disgusting! How can a company take money out of people's account without systems in place ? IT. IS. CRIMINAL AND THEFT ! I will be taking this further. This company is getting away with robbing people and making money off people - its CORRUPT. STAY AWAY

    BEWARE: counter staff must be paid commission on up selling extra insurance and avis services. DO NOT agree to take the โ€œSafe driveโ€ Bluetooth monitor, I wasnโ€™t offered a choice and then found out Iโ€™m getting charged R500 after my 2 day rental period, then I also found out that โ€œWindscreen damage insuranceโ€ was added without me knowing. After a 25 hour journey, the last thing I felt like doing was reading though the rental agreement and the counter staff know that and will make additions that you will have to pay for.

    The booking and recieving the car process was ok. I however forgot a package for my kids in the car. I called immediately, while I was at the airport (after the drop off). They promised to check and get back to me. I asked a friend to check on my behalf the following day, but nothing. It is not the value of the item, but the value of sevice when it comes to items left in their vehicles, how many ppl lost items and were never returned to them. I have not had any feedback... totally disappointed.

    Went to fetch the rental....so many counters..just one person attending to clients. Doesn't management realise that those without bookings take ages to process and yet queues build up but nobody comes out of their comfy offices to help clear the queue...terrible long wait to be attended to. Not a good experience.

    Voucher clearly stated 4 door automatic n got a manual.. also didn't like the attitude I got from the lady at the front desk.. perhaps they should realise that we are a customer..

    AVIS was very helpful when it came to renting my car. I had to show my boarding pass, drivers licence or passport and they assisted me in 10 minutes after filling in the documents and making payment and I was on my way with my rented vehicle

    We were very disappointed by how long we had to wait before being helped. We spent 45 minutes in Avis (this is less than ideal, especially so when you land at 10pm). The staff was friendly and efficient once we got to the front of the queue, but surely you can have more than one staff member on duty (especially if you are aware of how many customers you are expecting). Only when I complained to the one staff member, additional staff members appeared from the backroom.

    No complaints with AVIS at OR Tambo. We rented an SUV for a week at Kruger and everything went smoothly. Check-in was fast and the vehicle was clean and ready to go in a well-lit garage. Drop-off was easy with helpful staff to check-in the car. We received the final bill a few days after returning from the trip and there were no extra charges--we were billed as we expected. Pro tip: Watch your speed on the highways! Camera traps are common and we got two tickets on our drive back from Kruger to the airport. You don't pay AVIS for the ticket costs, but they will charge your credit card an administrative fee of R400 for each ticket (and they charged our card two months after we had returned home).

    There was no stock available, and all avis customers had to wait in excess of an hour for a vehicle. Had they forwarned us that they were doing a line change, we could have booked somewhere else for the occasion. I ended up being hours late for a customer engagement session. Not good.

    Good service. But sometimes the queues are a tad long. Join Avie Preferred for a quicker and simpler process. I always have success with avis and my company books the vehicles for me. Enjoy the variety of tiny little cars they give me.

    It was my first time renting a car with Avis and it was very easy going and fast. After landing a bit late, I went to the Avis Preferred counter and within 10 minutes I could collect my car. I even got a free upgrade to an SUV. All existing damages were already noted and when returning the car it also only took around 10 minutes. Very good experience with Avis!

    Most shocking shocking service i have ever experienced. Havenโ€™t answered the phone now for 30 minutes. Again like other complaints, i am trying to sort out issues of card fraud and theft from this branch. I have never known a car company to bill people on their own accord with zero permission from owner !!!

    Can get busy and have been there when there were no cars available ๐Ÿ˜ž They wouldn't upgrade without a fight. Expected to wait for cars to be delivered for hours. Not cool. Has been better since but I am always cautious

    Really surprised with the majority recent reviews. From my perspective all went smoothly as never. One negative, I got quite a ridiculous insurance offer (equals 2 weeks rental cost), but there was no pressure to take it and I did not, taking one from a different insurance company that cost me around 25% of the one offered. Apart from that, quick pick up process and extremely quick drop off (just left keys with a person directing cars to a spot). All people I dealt with super nice and helpful. Finally charged as expected and the deposit money released in a timely manner. From my experience, all good, recommended to all and I'm going to use Avis again when around.

    I dropped off a car back to AVIS with full tank according to the fuel Guage and I was charged a refuelling fee. How the hell does one fill up a car when the Guage indicates that the car is still full. The fuel Guage is the indicator of fuel in the car and on that basis one can decide to fuel or not. Please stay away from AVIS, they will bully you for unfair charges and send you pillar to post while they hold on to you deposit. Please consider using Bidvest, europcar or thrifty. Or any other service provider than AVIS of you don't want a headache after you rental with them.

    I have been a proud Avis renter and Preferred member for 15 years plus. This time around, it was hell returning the vehicle. I parked in the Avis lot along with an Uber that brought my family as the rental car could only take our luggage. Uber left and we went about unpacking the car so my family can drop the bags as we did an online check in. About 3 minutes in, a "staff" member came screaming we cannot park there and he will ensure we pay for it! I explained it's and Avis rental and I'm dropping my family so I can go and fill the vehicle before returning it. He continued his ranting. Meanwhile, there was a private old Nissan with a trailer parked there with people inside (definitely not an Avis car) yet that was accepted! I wish I had his name so I could publish it here

    Could do with a bit more signage to facilitate an easy return for the rented cars. I resolved that I'll be leaving the car at their Santon outlet to make my own life easy.

    Very unhappy! Waited in line for 2.5 hours to pick up the car. Grumpy staff. Got charged ZAR 480 because car was supposedly too dirty on return (see picture, decide for yourself). The vehicle was good, nevertheless not renting with Avis again.

    I got the best service ever from Dudu and Sifiso. Never experienced service like that from anyone at any other car rental company! Due to these 2 employees Avis became my choice for car rentals. Well done Dudu and Sifiso, you rock!!!

    Staff was great at reception. I'm concerned with the invoice received. It's not yet resolved. How can you fill the car at the site too and be charged for nearly 3 litres of fuel and a refuelling charge????????
