Very ancient temple at the city centre. There are about 250 steps to climb. Scenery from outside the temple on a clear day is beautiful. Sri Shankaracharya is said to have meditated here for about 6 months here before proceeding towards Himalayas. A must visit place for all tourists.

The climb to the Shankaracharya temple takes time, but is absolutely worth it. This temple is said to be built in around 300 BCE, and here Lord Shiva is worshipped. In recent times, an idol of Shankaracharya has been place and is worshipped here. The temple overlooks the city of Srinagar, and offers splendid views of the same.

Lord Shiva 🔱🧘 Beautiful and ancient temple This has been named because of a Shiva Temple established by His Holiness Jagadguru Shankaracharya himself. The entire structure is built of rocks and there are 264 stairs to climb. You can view the entire Srinagar atop this temple. A very sacred place.

One of the oldest temple in Srinagar dedicated to lord Shiva. It's maintained well by the defence personnel, who help devotees with beverages and water during their visit on top. As it's situated on top, it gives an amazing view of the city and the lakes below. There's a 250 steps to climb up the temple but it's surrounded trees all around so it's not too much. It gets crowded in the peak morning hours (9.30-11.30am), especially on weekends so, plan accordingly

One of the most popular places in Srinagar. High security area. One has to climb 270 steps by stairs to reach the temple situated at the top of the hill. The full view of Dal lake from the top is mesmerizing. Prasad can be purchased from here for Rs. 100 per packet containing dry fruits etc.

From parking, you have to walk or just take an auto ride to reach the steps. There are around 290 steps to reach the Shankaracharya Mandir. It is so peaceful up there and has a great view. From this view, I understood Srinagar is not a small city. Also free food available for the devotees. We didn’t had there because we have already had our lunch and went to Mandir.

It was a very personal experience that the temple is survived on the hill top where supposedly Shankaracharya visited once. Maintained by BSF, beautifully kept. It has got some steps (more than 100 but not very tiring). Entire Srinagar is visible from the top. Must visit place in Srinagar

Very nice place. It’s located in Hill. Total 240 steps are there to reach this temple. We can walk by giving simple gap here and there. Very old people cannot climb. While return also need to be careful for your knee.

You can reach temple on own car or taxi or auto. Parking is along the road side. Road is narrow. The final climb consists of steep steps. Photography is prohibited inside the temple. On a sunny day you will get spectacular view of Srinagar city.

Temple is dedicated to lord Shiva. There are around 250 steps. The first phase of steps can be climbed at personal space but one connecting to the temple are few but long hence can be difficult for those having leg problem or elderly. It is recommended to take support and climb if required. Carry water along or camphor to sniff as you will be against air at high altitude. There is sufficient place to sit and relax and get yourself immersed within God

Atop the Shankaracharya Hill of Srinagar, this temple is the path to the most majestic view of the whole of Srinagar. It's a Shiv temple. Most Kasmiris believed that Adi Shankaracharya visited this place and hence the name. The taxis and cars are parked at the footsteps of the temple from where you have to climb 230+ steps to reach the temple. The climb is not tiring or difficult, in fact, for most people, including elderly members. Though the number of steps seems huge, with just a couple of resting minutes, you would be able to reach the temple within 10 to 12 minutes (even if you are not a regular at exercise or walks) There is no entry fee. The view from above is magnificent with Dal Lake on one side and the rest of Sringara city adorned with its beautiful green and red rooftop houses. Since this is a military area, there is frisking and hence advisable to carry safe things in your bag. There are paid washrooms around. There is a drinking water tap available on the top near the temple Do not get bogged down by the number of steps and miss this awesome attraction

A must-visit place in Srinagar You need to climb around 200 steps to reach the temple. It is not that difficult; one should definitely try. An amazing view of Srinagar can be seen once you reach the top.

More than 250 steps need to be covered to reach at the top. Very beautiful view from the temple. Spend 1 hour time there worth visiting. The aged person must take rest in between because of height.

Beautiful grand view of Srinagar city from this amazing temple. Along with God Shiva's temple, the cave where Shri Shankaracharya meditated is also situated here. No. Of stairs is also not too much, easily manageable. Very nearby dal lake. Must visit. Overall trip will be 1- 2 hrs max.

Peaceful place, nice scenic view. One could have bird's view of most of Srinagar from here. Be careful of autowallahs, they will intimidate with long journey and lots of steps, while the journey was of app. 1 km the steps were not intimidating.

The place is at cliff top and offers beautiful view of the city. Plenty of parking space, one has to go through security check before entering the shrine. 250 steps to be climbed to reach the temple. The place is well maintained as it is run by army unit, free potable water and well maintained washrooms. There are beautiful tall trees all along the path to the temple. Once you visit the Lord Shiva temple, don’t forget to go to the adjacent Shree Shankaracharya cave.
