At a distance of 500 m from Lava Jeep Stand, Kagyu Thekchen Ling Monastery is a Buddhist monastery situated in the picturesque Himalayan hamlet of Lava in West Bengal. Popularly called as Lava Monastery, it is one of the top places to visit in Lava. Built in Tibetan style of architecture, the monastery has various prayer halls, lawns, sitting areas and a huge Buddha statue. One can see the monks are occupied in rigorous study of Buddhist literatures and meditation. Imagine you are contemplating your own self, and you see clouds sailing by in front of you, touching the pillars, the rose bushes of the monastery, around you 😌. A gentle sunshine filtered through the mist of the cloud beating on the ground below😌. And then the temple bells ringing at a regular interval. You feel one with the divine, the greater You that resides within. Such is this place. You don't feel like talking for the sound may disturb the serenity that loving envelopes everyone around. This is surely not for tourists with small kids - I saw kids running around, breaking the marvelous stillness of the place, whose parents did nothing to train them how to behave in a place like this.😌

The most calming and peaceful monastery in Lava. Little bit of drizzle 🌧️ made it even more beautiful. Please don’t ruin the beauty of this place. Saw one couple and with their “4” children loitering the premises of this monastery. I did my part by raising my boice against such thing. If you guys reading this review find someone like this, don’t forget to raise your voice. Thank you.

Calm and quaint Buddhist monastery and institute. Must visit if you are in Kalimpong or Lava. Often covered in fog, one can hear the distant chanting of young monks which is soul soothing.

The monastery is very well maintained and gives some great views of both Lava town as well as the mountain. The place was slightly overcrowded even on a weekday most probably because of summer holidays in schools. Beautiful flowers can be seen on the sides of the stairs to reach the temple level.

So nice and beautiful monastery in lava. This place is in the centre of the city easy to reach when you are in lava. You have climb some stairs to witness the true beauty of this place from the top you can also see whole city from here and from the top you can also see the stunning scenery of mountains with jungle. And the running clouds make it more eye pleasing. Here you can worship idol of god buddha. The place also have Buddhist monk school with traditional teaching methods. Monk students live here and study in the monastery premises itself. The place is very clean and peaceful. Far from city noise and day to day life problems. A must visit place when in north east west Bengal.

This place dosntnjave clean public washroom specially for the women . There is no accessibility option for the elderly or the disabled persons. The suvinior shop Lamas charge exorbitant amount and hardly can explain the significance of special buddhist suviniour . I felt like taking to shopkeeper rather than a monk .

Lava Monastery is one the biggest monasteries in Darjeeling hills region. It's an epitome of peace and bliss. A colorful monastery with a beautiful mountain landscape behind is not only a treat to the eyes but also a relief to the mind. Visit: This is a one stop destination on the way towards Lava national park and Chenge falls. A little uphill walk from the entrance takes you to the monastery but no stairs are there. So elders won't find that much difficult to climb. Market: There is a shop inside run by the monastery trust. All the profit from the shop goes for the schooling and food for the children. It actually has some really good sculptures, clothes and many decorative items. Buy whatever you like and contribute to the trust. Apart from this, small shops are also present outside the monastery campus. Fooding and Lodging: There are many options available in terms of hotels. It's not necessary to book in advance, on the spot booking available most of the time. Roadside food stalls are present in plenty however when we went in March 2023, most of them were closed without any reason. Only one or two were available although the food was good. Overall, I would say that this is a good stop on the way not really ideal for a one night stay. #If you like my review, follow me for more such reviews on traveling and fooding. This encourages me to do something different in this genre😊

Religious place. Very nice view of the mountains. Now and then fogs covers the entire monastery . Very disciplined area. Neat and clean. One can hangout with kids and other family members for hours. Place of mental peace.
