Stayed at the brand-spanking new Hostel Weligama this week. The hostel is super clean, with large shared bathroom, common areas and kitchen (great feature, save $$$ on restaurants and its nice to cook again!). Nice and airy dormitory rooms with secure space for valuables, decent bunk beds with comfy mattresses and good WiFi. Just 5 mins walk from the bus station and 5 mins walk from the beach so the location is great too. Overall a really good hostel, best so far in Sri Lanka. Would recommend for any solo or group travellers looking to not break the bank without roughing it too much!

Not stayed there yet but did call in to see the refurbishment in its final stages. I could see e then that this will be a must visit place in Weligama. I know it'll share all the attributes of it's wonderful staff and be an excellent communal space for those who party together. What do I love most? The open roof bar/club/BBQ space looking over the surfing paradise which is Weligama Bay. Not luxury but fun loving....I'll be popping by soon.

So lucky to be one of the first to discover this gem! Brand new, spacious and comfortable hostel. Sociable with space for hanging out and cooking together and local shops right on the doorstep. Shortest distance to beach, town centre and bus station. Rooftop to have my morning cup of tea in the sunshine ๐ŸŒž

I stayd in the hostel for three nights and really enjoyd it. The owner is very helpful and friendly and goes out of his way to make your stay comfortable. The hostel just opened and is pretty much in the making so the nice roof top is not fully equiped with plants and stuff yet and the common area still has lots of space ffr ideas but already is a good space to chill. The beds are new, comfy and everything is clean. perfect for surfers as it is just 3 minutes from the beach.

Weligama! NOT in Balangoda, Karadiyamulla! 'Maps' offers this place in the wrong location. It is a surf hostel (haven't been) so can not be found in the mountains... I pray I am the last to learn this the hard way lol

Amazing staff, location and surf camp! We booked 2 night but decided to stay for 6 because we liked it so much. We felt like a family amongst the staff. Would recommend!

Great new and clean hostel. Good food! Nice surfing school! Amazing rooftop to hangout and chill with a great view over city and beach. The place is run by very friendly, fun and enthusiastic people who did everything to make us have a great time in Weligama. Thank you! ๐Ÿค—

Not good. Here is why... This place used to be great! Great upstairs common area for backpackers to gather and mingle. However, now you are not allowed to bring ANY of your own food or drinks! You can only buy highly overpriced beer, food and wine from the restaurant! No common kitchen, no A/C and poor internet if you are lucky.

The beds are comfortable and mosquito nets are provided, there are lockers to secure your belongings, the bathrooms are clean and there are hangout spaces to chill out in. Staff are friendly and always quick with a smile. There is a surf school attached but we didn't use this so I can't comment. Low price and close to the beach, with some good local restaurants less than a minute away. However the rooms aren't air conditioned and fans only have limited effect which makes it incredibly hot and hard to sleep. The food in the attached restaurant isn't great, the chicken curry tasted like it was made with the flavour packet from Maggi noodles, and every other person I spoke to about the food said they ate there once and didn't go back. It is a nice place to hangout and have a few drinks though. The restaurant had a party and several DJ's attended which is nice if you are into that, but when it's half 2 in the morning and the base is causing your bed to vibrate while you try to sleep it's not so fun, especially when the party was advertised to finish at midnight. We also had multiple issues with the WiFi, it would either die suddenly or be very slow. Overall it's a cheap place to stay with a good vibe, but I probably wouldn't stay again, mostly due to the heat.

Highly recommend to stay at this hostel. Best rice and curry buffet we ate in weligama ( for only 350LKR), the price of one bed is 1000LKR. There are rooftop parties every Monday and the beach is in walking distance. The hostel also organizes tours for the best prices around.

We tried surfing for the very first time. With the help of the experienced teachers we were standing on the board and riding our first waves in no time. Very cool and chilled crew. We can recommend the surf school and would love to come back during our next Sri Lanka trip! โ€โ™‚๏ธโ€โ™€๏ธ Cheers, Sait & Kiki
