One of my favorite places to go for a Japanese hibachi grill in the shoals area. The only reason will give 4 instead of 5 is because your dinner and show depends on the cook you get, some will do tricks others will just cook the food. All in all it's still on my top 5 places to eat locally. Good food for a little higher priced but that's my choice. Go try it.

If I could give 10 Stars I would. The atmosphere is very inviting and cozy. Practice social distancing. Masks preferred and all staff wore them. The food was outstanding.. the service was just as good. I wish I could remember our servers name because she was great!!! Highly recommended for an awesome date night or really any occasion. Food was very fresh and made perfectly. We finished almost every bite. Enjoy y'all. It's worth every penny

We really enjoyed our meal here. Our chef was impressive, he's been juggling since he was a kid and raised by clowns. So he really put on a performance. The food was amazing! The sushi was a little on the small side, but it was very good. Worth stopping here! Great service. Clean. Beautiful restaurant inside. The staff are super kind. Visiting from Canada 🇨🇦 Love from Kelsey and Lydia

I started eating at Umi Japanese steakhouse from the day they opened which was a long time ago and every meal I've had there has been great. One thing that has changed over time is that you get more today for your money then you got in the beginning. Even the lunch specials gives you an extraordinary amount of food on your plate to eat and the quality is absolutely five. (5) star.

This place has roaches me and my family were eating an one decided to come across the table I had to kill it because it was right beside my plate I informed the waiter she said she would tell the manager but no one ever showed up about it and she never mentioned anything as if I didn't say anything at all. So this is a place that I would never be visiting again and I suggest you do the same.

We had dinner in a booth. The Bento box was perfect! It is more expensive than lunch but the serving size is much bigger. I will be coming back. Watch the clock, the close after lunch and reopen at 4:30

First time ordering. Ordered food to go and it was pretty quick to be ready. Ordered vegetable fried rice, miso, salad, salmon roll, & tuna roll. The fried rice was really flavorful and had Yum yum sauce on the side. It was tasty enough that it didn't need any additions. Fresh and filling. The miso was very bland, barely had any tofu, seaweed, or flavor. Salad was good but it's hard to mess up lettuce with ginger dressing. The sushi was not good. Fish didn't taste fresh, no umami, rice flavorless. Price for everything was very affordable. Of the items, the fried rice was the most (& maybe only) thing worth it though.

Good Japanese food at a very reasonable price. Lunch menu didn't have a lot of variety outside of Hibachi and Sushi rolls. Dinner menu might be different. Makes for a great casual eating experience.

So I’ll start with the good. The server was great, it wasn’t her fault that the other experience was overall bad. Another plus was the sushi, it was top notched. The Chef was extremely sloppy, he was throwing the sauce dishes everywhere, he threw rice all over the table, my wife even had unmelted butter still on her steak. just extremely sloppy and like he did not care for the guest at all. I don’t know if he was having a bad day or not. The overall show was very bland and boring. Me and my wife do not come to hibachi and spend $20+ a person to have a terrible experience. We normally go to Ichiban, and decided to give Umi a try. Based on our experience, we will not be returning anytime soon, unless someone replies to my review to make things right. Next time we will be going back to Ichiban. Very disappointed in our experience.

Beautiful interior! Friendly and helpful staff! Delicious food! With all these good points, I will definitely be returning again. This restaurant has a lot of beautiful and unique decorations! The only thing I can think that might be considered a negative is that the Hibachi doesn't come with noodles, the fries rice was bland, and the women's restroom needed tending to.

The food was delicious. I tried it for the 1st time a few months ago and knew that I wanted to take my Daddy there to eat. We went this past Sat 7/4/22 I asked our waitress what she would suggest since we didn't know much about the menu and she very patiently explained everything we needed to know to make a decision ♡ I ordered the Chicken Hibachi Lunch plate for $12.49 and Daddy ordered Steak Hibachi Lunch plate for $14.99 they both came with a small salad and soup. The dressing they make in house was very good and our meals were delicious. I ate as much as I could and brought the rest home and ate the rest for dinner. I wish I lived closer because I have been craving it every day 😉 we loved our food and our waitress! She was so friendly and attentive. We didn't pay attention to the menu and were so surprised that we didn't have a high bill. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone. Loved it!

Our group of 3 business travelers went for the hibachi and enjoyed the chef preparing our meal in front of us. We sat with two other couples and got to talking with them which made for interesting conversations. The food was very good and reasonably priced. It wasn't as refined as some other hibachi style experiences I had but it was a great value. This probably one of the better restaurants in the area.

We enjoyed the entertainment and the food was great but by the time the food came around to me I only received a half portion cause I got what was left. The couple next to me split a meal but I ordered a full meal at 17.95 but they got more food than me. I knew I probably couldnt eat the whole meal but was going to carry leftovers home. Well, no leftovers and I am a light eater. The first ones served got more than they purchased and left food behind. You need to at least give people their moneys worth because what I ate was not worth 17.95 plus gratuity and tax.

I’ll start with the positives. My server Reagan was top notch and the gyoza was decent. That’s the only reason it wasn’t one star. After that it’s mostly downhill. While sitting at my table an employee cleaning off a booth behind me slung ice on me and didn’t even acknowledge it, the soup bowl had a hair on it, the salad was submerged in ginger dressing, The chicken teriyaki bento box may as well have been a lunchable, The chicken looked like a microwaved chicken cutlet sliced into strips and tossed in a puddle of great value teriyaki sauce, The cali roll tasted like it was from a gas station, the pickled ginger was dry (how is that even possible), the rice was neither brown, white or yellow, but a weird beige, so that raised some questions and the other item tasted like imitation crab passed off as scallops. And all of this happened between 6:00 pm and 7:00 pm which should be prime time for dinner. 3/10 won’t be returning.

We took our daughter tonight to eat for her birthday. We were seated fairly quickly but it took forever for us to get our food. When we ordered our food we told them it was our daughter’s birthday and after we paid they still hadn’t sang to her. She almost cried because they had done it for multiple groups before us. I had to walk away to remind them it was her birthday and they quickly gathered people to half sing to her. The food wasn’t very good and we paid almost $100 with tip. It used to be good and maybe tonight was an off night but I’ll not be spending my money there anymore

My first time here. I had vegetables with fried rice. My girl had sushi with shrimp with some spicy sauce. Our other guest had chicken fried rice. Everyone Enjoyed their entree. We also had edamame and spring rolls as appetizers. All was consumed. Service was adequate. I would eat here again.

The show was good..but all in all it tasted like any rice/meat combo restaurant from a rice to a cooked demo. Final taste was the same. Not sure about the Sushi never tried it.

Great experience. Staff was knowledgeable and friendly, the service was fantastic. The food was really good. Surprisingly being in Alabama, you never expect to experience genuine Japanese cuisine with fresh food. They did a great job. Only complaint was that Miso Soup seemed watered down, but that was all. Will be making it a must go to when visiting Florence again.

First time visiting tonignt, service was pretty bad. My salad had a hair in it..which according to the reviews is common here and frankly disgusting. The waiter seemed annoyed at me for pointing it out. Our drinks sat empty for 15 minutes before he came over to refill them despite refilling the tables around us. The food was okay, not great, but it wasn't terrible. Unfortunately we won't be back - especially after reading multiple reviews about hair in food.

I've only had take out. So, i don't know what it's like inside. They were very busy the last time I was there, so the service was slow 🐌. I ordered something new. Shrimp 🍤 rolls? That was very good. I ordered Calamari, thinking I'd get breaded fried calamari, but it was unbreaded, so I wasn't happy.

So, after a 45 min wait, we were finally seated. I ordered the fillet and scallops. The cook came out and he was nice and tried to be entertaining. I had no problem with that. He begins cooking and coughs the whole time. He’s wearing a mask but it’s below his nose. The rice was yellow, not usually as good as white rice. It was rushed and didn’t have a great taste…. It tasted undercooked and had globs where it wasn’t cooked properly. The fillet was decent but not cooked per my request. There was hardly any seasoning to the food at all. The scallops were horrible, I could only eat one. The yum yum sauce was thinner than my water and had no taste. I guess Kobe has spoiled me, or it was just a bad experience. The locals seemed to flock to it, I’ll pass next time I’m here.

The atmosphere feels very authentic. Our Hibachi chef was great and was very interactive with our child. The food was FANTASTIC as always. However, I do have to take some points away for our waitress. She was not very attentive and I did have to ask other serving staff for my waitress to return. Overall I love this place and will return many more times.

VERY good hibachi! I had the chicken and shrimp and all tasted very good. I also had a crunchy shrimp sushi roll that was quite excellent! I'm a bit picky when it comes to hibachi grills and this one definitely did not disappoint.

I’ve adored this place since it opened, the atmosphere is moody and fun and the hibachi chefs have great personality. The portions are massive, so you get what you pay for, and the food always tastes incredible. The ample seating is great for celebrations, and it’s one of my favorite spots to gather with family and share some sake and a few laughs.

The prices here are reasonable when comparing them to other restaurants of the same style. The service use to be better. The food quality has decreased a little, but I don't know if that is due to it being the wrong season for the freshest of vegetables or if they are rushing the cooking.
