8 of us came here for a meal after seeing pictures of the food posted on social media. And wow we were not disappointed. The menu was incredibly varied with a whole heap of stuff we wanted to try. There was a good selection of drinks and the service was absolutely impeccable and extremely friendly. The food came out and looked just stunning and tasted even better. This is our new favourite spot in the area and I would absolutely recommend you try it.

Have been going past The Star Inn for years, but never popped in. Recently we got a dog and were looking for dog friendly places to grab a bite for my birthday, saw the signs and dropped in. My wife and I were blown away with the wide open spaces to the rear of the property, and even more so when one of the fantastic team said we could walk our dog down there. The staff are fantastic, we were served by a young lady who literally couldn't have done more to make our visit fantastic, including fetching a dog friendly ice cream for our dog when we forgot to order at the bar. The food was lovely and really high quality, I cannot recommend it enough! Definitely try it out, especially if you have been driving past for years like me!!

Amazing food and drink in a welcoming and relaxing place for a great experience. Staff are extremely polite and helpful in all your needs. Even welcome dogs with food, drink and a bed. We both had Chicken Supreme with butcher's snags for our dog. Recommend for all and will come back 100%

A lovely find and very convenient for Bristol Airport. We could have chosen anything from the menu but settled for something from the light lunch section. Even that was a substantial and very tasty. Very good social distancing measures put in place. A special thanks to the friendly and helpful staff.

We sat in the bar with our with our 2 dogs, which although rather dated, was cosy. We really enjoyed our meal. My hubby had Asian Chicken Wings to start and Chicken Bourguignon to follow, which included plenty of fresh vegetables. I had the fish pie. This came with tender stem broccoli, green beans and carrots- a generous portion and piping hot. The people were friendly and the service excellent. We will definitely go again.

Absolutely fantastic food, service and general appeal of the pub. The whole service, from me phoning up to book a table right to our party saying good bye, was beautiful. No hassle at all, every member of staff was chatty, happy, enthusiastic and keen to help with whatever you need and you could see this across the whole pub as everyone was generally really happy to be there. As a party of 4, we ordered 1 dish of King Prawns and 1 dish of wild mushrooms as a starter. We also ordered 1 x pig mac, 2 x chefs whimsical choice of the day and 1 x vol - au - vent with a couple of pints of Thatchers gold. All of our meals were far above expectation, with us feeling more like we were eating at a 5 star restraunt rather than a pub! All servers were happy to pop over and check in to make sure everything was perfect. As soon as one pint was empty, someone was ready to take the next order for us. As a 'dog friendly pub', it was nice to see them sticking upto the claim with clean dog bowls scattered around the pub, other members of the public also bringing their dogs in and a huge open green area to the back for the dogs to run around in. On the whole, this was a most fantastic experience for us and we look forward to visiting again in the near future! Thank you to the team at The Star in Star, you've all done a great job. Keep up the fantastic work

Unbelievable! We have been meaning to try them for so long. So glad we finally managed to do it. Previously we booked a table with them, but driving to the wrong star inn as there are 4 in the area. So make sure to book and go to the right one. We chose this pub as there are many great walks nearby. One of which is called King Wood belonging to National Trust which 4 min drive from the pub as well as the other walks. The place is so dog friendly that they have a dog section of the pub you can sit with loads of dogs. Upon entry we were welcomed by friendly staff which brought water and treats to our dog. Service is efficient and fast. They are attentive and do not miss anything without being over bearing or intrusive. They have great selection of steaks, homemade pies, burger, fish and chips and duck. The menu ticks all the boxes. We has burger and duck. Both exceeded my expectations which are quite high. The Presentation of the food wAs also excellent with great detail to attention. The desert selection was amazing too. I couldn’t believe how smooth and amazing experience this had turned out to be for both us and the dog. We had a great day out. I think the nAmes of our servers were Jimmy and Dan. They were genuinely hospitable and liked their jobs and pub. Thank you

Have always liked the look of the Star on our way to and from the airport so decided to have some dinner there while waiting to pick up someone from the airport. As an attempt at a gastro pub it almost gets there with simple food presented well. Staff were attentive and a pleasant atmosphere only disappointment was the lack of signal and WiFi that didn't work, important if you need to keep in touch.

Probably the best restaurant Sunday roast ever. We were a large table of 16. Everything was served together, hot, and cooked to perfection. Delightful service too

Wow! Congrats and thanks to the chef here! It was so very nice to go to a pub and have freshly cooked incredibly tasty food! This place is a must visit. We enjoyed great customer service with a friendly welcome. The food was delicious! A huge cut above so many over priced places where the still use processed food to cut corners. Not here - I just wish I'd had room for desert!! We will be back for sure. Thank you very much.

Good food portion and the desserts are okay, just a touch on the pricey side specially for the chocolate brownie that my friend had

Visited on a Saturday evening. We had the ham hock croquettes with pineapple salsa as a starter which was very good. Both had the burgers with brie and bacon as a main which was lush. Guinness was good as well. Definitely come back 👍

One of the best meals out I've had in ages! I can't speak highly enough of my experience. The staff were attentive at the right times & so friendly. The food was superb! It's great to see a pub get it right in every area. I highly recommend this place and wish the owner who we chatted to every success! Thanks for a lovely evening.

First visit for several years. Will definitely be returning. Food back to standard that we remembered from years ago. The owner came to speak with us and was welcoming. Service from young man excellent and friendly.

Came across the Star whilst walking in the Mendips. Proper country feel to the dog friendly pub. Hugh beer garden and super friendly staff and landlord. Only had drinks but after viewing the menu and seeing food being served will definitely be returning. Can’t recommend the Star highly enough

Had to wait a while after being seated before we got menus, but it was definitely worth the wait! My partners steak was cooked to perfection thanks to the chef Phil. I had a bacon, bre and cranberry jam burger which was amazing (considering I'm not a buger person). The black forest eton mess was perfection apparently... my partner wants to go back tomorrow just for that. And my chocolate brownie was amazing. Then to top it off we were lucky enough to have Dan as our server, making our evening even better. If Phil and Dan ever come to Essex and set up shop, we'd be there every week.

Excellent !! Called in for evening meal after detouring to avoid M5 congestion on our way to St Ives . We shared the tapas which was more than enough. The quality of each dish was excellent , very quick and friendly services and good value . Some good beers too. Worth a visit .

The most incredible meal I have had in years so many gluten free options! The most i have ever seen from a pub. The waiters were lovely and honesty the food was so delicious! Would definitely eat here again! Would give more stars if I could. Lovely quiet atmosphere as well

Lovely Sunday lunch . It was an extremely hot day but the staff seemed to be coping well. Our group enjoyed the burgers and the salmon . And the wine recommendations went down well 😁
