Extraordinary views over the lake although it can get extremely crowded.

Beautiful place to visit and wander along the 2.7 kilometre path that meanders it's way around the north shore of the man-made lake. There's an enclosed play area to keep small children entertained and plenty of benches to just sit and watch the world go by. You'll find a pleasant cafe (if a bit on the expensive side). Plus you will find several little picnic areas and numberous rubbish bins. The public toilets are free to use, but could do with a good clean. (This may simply be down to the high footfall). The parking is free to blue badge holders. For everyone else it's a standard rate of ยฃ2.20 for all day. All precautions are taken regarding Covid-19, but unfortunately not everyone is respecting the advice notices, (such is life).(24/4/22).

It has been nearly 30 years since I visited Chew Valley Lake, and I wasn't disappointed. It has a small playground for children. There is a tiny cafe, which serves drinks and cakes from a window (not a sit in area, as there are chairs and tables outside). A fish and chips restaurant and separate toilets. These are in the North car park. On your walk around the nature reserve, you get lovely views of the lake, albeit the water levels are very low at the moment. When walking through picnic area 2, you have a choice of taking a left or right path, through the reserve, with a couple of scattered benches a long the path. The car parking charge is ยฃ2.20 for all day. The trail is 2.7km in all.

There's a lake which you cannot go near unless you want to catch a fish ( no public access). A short walk that goes parallel to busy road. There are better places to visit in vicinity of Bristol than this.

Great beautiful place to visit. Large car park and cafe. You can also just buy drinks and ice creams. Loos are kept clean and tidy. I look forward to my next visit.

A large lake with plenty of reed beds and open water ideal for birds and for contemplation. There are different layby stopping places along the roads and a pay and display car park with cafe.

A great place for an easy afternoon stroll. Chew Valley lake is an essential place to visit if you are from Bath, Bristol or surrounding area. It has two car parks, connected by a walkable path, with some hidden places to explore for all the family. Car parking is easy and costs ยฃ2:20 as of January 2020. There is a large playing area for children. You can feed the ducks, coots and swans, and enjoy a coffee at Cafe, or chips at Salt and Malt. Lots of bicycle parking as well, so itโ€™s an ideal place for cyclists to have a breakfast or lunchtime ride. Dogs on a lead are also allowed and there are pubic toilets as well. The whole facility is well managed and littler free. Well done Bristol Water (who own the site).

A lovely little rest point for the weary driver. Wonderful views and enough bird life to keep any ornithologists busy. Unfortunately you can't paddle, swim, canoe or do any other water sport here as its not that kind of lake. Its a reserve. There is enough parking for about 20 cars, and there is often an ice cream van here during the day. Little tip.... You can stay overnight but the place is monitored so you might get disturbed and questioned.

This is a beautiful and tranquil place to enjoy the outdoors. It is a great place to relax and unwind, or to get some exercise. The lake is also a great place to learn about wildlife and nature. The Lake is a beautiful reservoir and the fifth-largest artificial lake in the UK, with an area of 1,200 acres (4.9 km2). The lake was created in the early 1950s and was opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 1956. It provides much of the drinking water for the city of Bristol and surrounding area, taking its supply from the Mendip Hills. Some of the lake water is used to maintain the flow. It's also a popular destination for recreation, with a variety of activities available, including: Sailing Windsurfing Kayaking Canoeing Fishing Walking Cycling Birdwatching Picnickingn the River Chew.

Beautiful scenic area with plenty of parking. Lovely walks and loads of grass space for games for adults & children alike. Dogs are allowed on leads. The park could benefit from some better signage.

I live less than a mile from the lake. And manage to get there every day for a walk around the btitern trail. Allways something different to see. Can be very muddy if there has been any rain. lots of dogs being walked and should be on leads, but most are running around free.

This is a good place to visit to be next to a big body of fresh water, especially on hot sunny days.. There's a path that meanders around the edge of the lake (with the odd hide for bird watchers) that's popular for cyclists and walkers.. There's also a cafe with a largish car park to the north of the lake that's a good option especially if it's raining..

Lovely place to visit for a walk but beware there is no mobile signal so you can't pay to park using Ringo. The parking machines don't take cards

What a peaceful place! Plenty of options: from a picnic with friends and family or a walk. Cycling lanes available too. Food and drinks facilities in place.

A beautiful lake. Itโ€™s just a shame you canโ€™t really get down to the edge. There are lots of birds in the water and there are areas where you can buy seeds to feed the geese, swans and ducks.

A great place to pull up and watch the birds, ample parking and a shop very close to get your food and drink

Visit to the lake was strangely depressing. New paths seem so far away from the water and I donโ€™t think Iโ€™ve been anywhere with so many rules and signs. Donโ€™t climb the fence. Donโ€™t walk off the path. Donโ€™t run. Walk. Sit. Couldnโ€™t get near the water. Visited Woodford lodge for a coffee but was turned away as all the empty tables over looking the lake were reserved. Whole lake is not dog friendly and really depressing. So sad.

Great lake, great place to see wildlife and birds. A few free places to park around the lake if you avoid the main pay and display car park.

  • 3/5 Felicity A. 1 year ago on Google
PSA that you canโ€™t swim/go near the water here! A lot of it is private property. Good for a wee walk, though, and it gives a LOVELY view from up the hill (itโ€™s huge!)

Stunning location. Great play park for young kids. Outstanding walks and views. Lovely cafe. Let down by the ice cream hut not being open on a sunny bank holiday and the small and expensive car park

Such a beautiful place for a walk. It's been really well thought out for social distancing too with one way trails and plenty of signage. A great place for a day trip or a short visit. Parking is ยฃ2.20 for the day. Salt and Malt is open for great fish and chips too.

  • 3/5 Dawid C. 5 years ago on Google
ยฃ2 for all day parking, ยฃ1 refund if you spend ยฃ7 in the restaurant. Bit disappointed that there are no circular route to walk around entire lake. Quite muddy and not that much to see. Good for walking a dog (minus the mud).

A large reservoir near Bristol, a cafe (salt and malt) parking and walks. Parking is chargeable unless you have a Bristol Water Permit which also gives much wider access to the reservoir and bird hides. Views over the lake from roadside parking as well, Herriots Bridge and Herons Green.

This is a lovely place for an easy stroll. Visited in autumn so got to see some lovely colours. The walk around the lake is flat and suitable for young children. There are some lovely view points. Wish I had taken my binoculars along. Plenty of birds to see! There is a cafe and a chip shop near the carparks and the gulls crowd around there so if buying food take care!

Pay 2 pound to sit in a car park. As far as i could see, you can't get near the lake unless u walk along the road but thats probably a good thing because it smells really bad. There are some grass areas around the car park and there's a little walk but it's nothing special. Honestly think staying in my garden would have been nicer ?
