Great food and atmosphere, the waiters good. But did take a while to your drinks when sitting at a table. Would take like 10-15 min for each drink to arrive at the table which slowed things down. I got the poutine and it wag good I finished it but the gravy they add was at time overwhelming in flavor. I tasted a burger and it was great. Bread pudding was great with nice soft bread. Would go again, do recommend.

First off, we've been here multiple times, and have always had excellent food & service. This last time and the time before, the service was definitely lacking. However, I'm not willing to leave less than 5 stars to such a beloved local establishment. Small business needs to be supported especially now. Last time around I had the Mac & wedge salad, hubby had the spicy jelly burger & onion rings. Today he had the shrimp tacos, and I had a Caesar salad and fries. Our friends had two orders of the chile verde tacos & short rib tacos with the wrapped dates to start. Everyone enjoyed their food, but some of our order was forgotten for quite some time. And drinks were not replenished for a solid 20-25 minutes. Our server was obviously very busy, and everyone is short staffed right now. The manager came out and helped us with our issues. We will be back because we support small above all else. I'm grateful to be alive, healthy, and dining in again. It's okay to make mistakes, we are all human. And gorgeous remodel by the way!

Excellent food! The long island iced teas are sooooo good! The wedge salad is the BEST in the area. The bacon wrapped dates are pricey but worth the cost! If you are into private speakeasys, you need to make a reservation for the Black Antler Book Club. It's small, exclusive, and romantic. No photos or phones are allowed inside.

Dark chill environment. Server was knowledgeable of the menu and very personable. Food was pretty darn good. The short rib was juicy and tender. The vegetables needed to be cooked more. Almost raw. Apps and desserts were fire. The ribeye was total nom nom.

I recently visited a restaurant with a beautiful and modern atmosphere. However, I was quite disappointed with the restroom facility, which was in desperate need of cleaning. It made me feel dirty even before sitting down to eat. On a positive note, the bar area was stunning, showcasing a wide variety of exquisite bottles to choose from. Now, moving on to the most important part - the food. The Mac and cheese dish was alright, although it didn't meet my expectations of an authentic and flavorful rendition. On the other hand, the brussels sprouts were an absolute standout. I highly recommend trying them as they were cooked to perfection and bursting with savory goodness. The steak, while decent, had a major flaw; it was overly greasy. Every bite felt like a mouthful of oil, but the saving grace was the delicious butter that elevated the flavors. Moving on to the kids' grilled cheese sandwich, it was good and pleasing enough for my son to enjoy it. As for the meatball sandwich, it was simply fantastic, packed with flavor, and satisfied my taste buds without fail. Overall, despite the beautiful and modern setting, the unclean restroom left a sour taste in my mouth. While some dishes, like the Brussel sprouts and the meatball sandwich, were top-notch, others fell short. With a few improvements, this restaurant could certainly be a go-to spot.

My family and I have been coming here for years! It's my favorite restaurant in the area! They have unique cocktails, they specialize in whiskey and bourbon drinks, but they have variety of cocktails, from gin to vodka, to rum and they're all amazing!!! Poutine is a must try appetizer there! They also have a burger of the month and themed days of the week. They serve brunch on the weekends, which we tried for the 1st time a couple of weeks ago and the food was great! All in all it's a must try place!

Haven't been back to The State since it was closed for renovation till last night and it was definitely top notch!! The atmosphere of it all felt welcoming and exciting. Staff here at The State are extremely nice and punctual. Can't go wrong with both of their food and drink choices that are on the menu. I'm glad that The State is back in Downtown Redlands!! Cheers!!

Went for brunch. Great atmosphere, awesome food. My wife got the chimichanga and I got the avocado toast. Both were superb. I also ordered Brussels sprouts, and we finished off with a yummy bread pudding. My only comment is that I wish it would have been a little more pudding and a little less bread. Our server, Kylie, was awesome!!!!

i still can keep it 4 stars but I liked short rib in the Victoria gardens location more then here. we went here for brunch, egg Benedict was good but the orange juice was not fresh. so, I recommend this place for dinner more than brunch!

Edit: 3/25/22 I came here for my birthday and decided to try the ribeye. I ordered it medium rare and it came completely well done. The flavor was good, but just not at all what I ordered. Once again, our waiter didn't come to check on us until we were pretty much done eating, and at that point it was too awkward to say something because I didn't want it to seem like I was just trying to get more food/my meal comped. Everything else was good, just disappointed in the accuracy and service. -- I've been here a few times, and have always had a pretty good experience. I came for dinner with my husband on a Thursday evening and there was about a 20 minute wait. I really liked that the wait-list had a link to see where we were in line. The service was pretty good and we got our food relatively quickly. Unfortunately after we got our entrees, the waiter never came to check on us until we had finished eating and didn't ever refill our waters, which were empty about half way through. The food itself was good, though it was weird that some of the menu items didn't have prices next to them (you scan a QR code at the table that links you to their menu).

After two visits to The State I've had a variety of items across the menu. I tried the Short Rib Poutine with a fried egg, the 16oz Bone-In Ribeye, the Truffle Burger,  Lobster Mac and Cheese, and the Happy Hour Short Rib Street Tacos along with various coctails. For the most part, the food was okay. I felt the short rib tacos desperately needed a sauce. The mac n cheese was good, nothing special. I actually wish it had been more cheesy. I tried to record a "cheese pull" video and there wasn't enough cheese to be noticeable, more like a cheese sauce opposed to melted cheese. I had different issues with the poutine. While there was lots of cheese, it was already cooled down on top and returning to a solid state by the time it hit the table. I also ordered an over easy fried egg on top and that egg was dead, just cooked through and through. However, two different servers offered to make another one and took it off the bill, so that was nice. No complaints about the amount of meat, there was plenty. The ribeye was cooked well, I just didn't care for the rub they used. I think it had some kind of chipotle overtones and I'm not a fan of chipotle. The shining star of my experience was the truffle burger. It was phenomenal! The burger was cooked to a perfect medium rare and was juicy and delicious! It really took the cake both visits. I would go back just for the burger. The drinks were also excellently prepared and presented. Overall, it was a pretty average experience. I  expect there to be a few hits and misses in a dining experience, hence the three star rating. For more food reviews and pictures follow me on Instagram @Aimee.Eats_

This was my first time here, recommended by my hygienist. Tasty food! I had all three tacos on the “taco Tuesday” menu, and they were very good. Small street tacos, but flavorful. My husband had the double smash burger and enjoyed every bite. The $6 margarita was small but mighty! Also, tasty We sat by the large open widow in front and enjoyed ourselves.

Visited sunday night sitting at the bar top. Burger - way too salty, portionwise it’s good perosnally. Too much salt on the patties Bartender rang up wrong order, not able to give out silverware for food items, he was busy cleaning, i know we got there around 830pm but i expect the same service beside their closing cleaning. Bar top wasn’t crowded we patiently waited to be served certain stuff. It made an okay experience and I like coming to the state for atmosphere but I’m not sure if I want to return to this location. Definitely need some improvement

We planned to arrive for brunch but got delayed and showed up just after 3pm. So because I'd planned on getting a brunch item, I walked in not knowing what I wanted to order, but after looking at the specials menu I immediately decided on the Oktoberfest shash burger. We ordered some cocktails and appetizers (all of which were pretty great), but when it came time to order our mains I was told they were out of the specific thing I wanted. I quickly picked the meatball sandwich as an alternative. It turned out to be pretty good, but it was still disappointing not to get what I'd hoped for. The deep fried oysters were okay, but I felt like the flavor of the oyster was overshadowed by too much Sriracha mayo. The brussels sprouts were much better. One other disappointment was when my friend ordered a beer off the draught menu he waited about 10 minutes before the server said she'd check in it. When she came back 5 minutes later he was told that they were out of that beer. 15 minutes seems like a long wait to be told you can't get what you ordered. That was two times they didn't have something we wanted, but at least with the Oktoberfest burger I was told immediately.

Had a large work dinner here. We tried quite a few dishes. It was Tuesday so I had the special margarita and tacos...shrimp and pork. They were delicious. We shared the poutine and brussel sprouts too...both were really good!! We finished with creme brulee and it was pretty tasty!!

First time dining in and loved the place. I loved the bacon wrapped dates for a quick bite. The spicy fried chicken sandwich with its house salad was delicious. We ordered as well strawberry margaritas that were resfreshing and on point!

The best thing I ate there tonight was their Berries, Bree, and Bacon burger-- c est magnifique!!! Beware, it is a seasonal item. The burger alone is what pushed me over to giving them a 4 instead of a 3. The braised short rib tacos were okay. It was missing something to push them over to amazing; perhaps a spicy salsa?? I also tried there poutine fries. Those were good but just not for me. Their fountain drinks all had a slightly off taste. Three different drinks later, I settled on a root beer which was okay.

Nice looking place. Tried to just walk in on a Friday night at 6pm. Not gunna happen. They said 1 1/2 -2 hour wait. Amazing how busy it was. We had hoped we got in early enough to beat the crowd. Food was good but can’t rave about anything. Servers were good and checked on us often. We will be back but plan a little better next time.

Pros: the server was nice! She made sure we were taken care of and okay through out our stay. Poutine was nice, tacos were nice! Cons: the food was… lacking. Mac and cheese had no flavor ): also the steak…. Was so dry 🙃

Nice modern style gastro pub food with nice looking bar. Went for a lunch. Walked by at night a few times and the scene was busy and loud. Looked fun. Lunch was busy but no wait for a table. Had veggie burger and onion rings. Both very good. Onion rings cooked well, thick onion, crunchy coating, great dip. Get the rings.

Stopped in here the other Friday night with my wife for dinner. We popped in and found out that we had made it early enough to order from the happy hour menu. I want you to know that everything that I’m sharing here was from the happy hour menu. We started out with the bacon wrapped dates and they were so good. My wife really liked the balsamic drizzle on them and I enjoyed the Gorgonzola on the side. We also ordered the web Charlotte to start with. I felt like we should eat some salad and have something healthy. That was super good to. After that we had our main courses brought out. One of our courses was the burger that had bacon and onion ring on it. I’m forgetting the name of it right now. And then my wife got the mac & cheese. We didn’t get it with lobster in it we just went for regular mac & cheese. Food came out quickly, and our server was super amazing. We had a great little table to sit at. If I was to say one thing as an adjustment, the music is just a touch loud in this place but that’s not something that’s going to stop me from coming back.

I recently visited Redlands for the first time in 45 years of living in so cal, I know I know…what the heck took me so long?!! I don’t have an answer for that…maybe it was meant to be for the time I went?🤷🏻‍♂️But I digress, I have to say I’m really really impressed with downtown Redlands. I didn’t have a chance to really check it out like I wanted to so I’ll definitely be back. We were starving men looking for a place to eat, we had no agenda, no spot picked out and no direction where to eat but I I’m pretty sure this place picked us! We walked by The State in our indecisiveness of trying to choose where to eat and I’m really glad we went with the The State. First off, five stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️for playing fantastic music!! The vibe is great with a very relaxed atmosphere and the staff all seemed very professional and more then that just friendly. Our waitress was Jill and what a sweetheart she was to us. She’s so engaging and very friendly and gave us fantastic service. I went with her recommendation of I believe it’s called their Stack burger with a side of tempura battered onion rings 🤤 That burger paired with those rings was on point and definitely at the top of my burger experiences. Jill brought us a couple beers to try, Modern Times black beer to be exact. It was fantastic. It complimented my meal extremely well. My boy Nick, had the braised short rib tacos with a spicy aïoli sauce on the side. The tacos were good but I liked Jill’s recommendation the best! Thanks Jill! My thoughts on The State are pretty obvious. I’d go back again for sure. This is a great laid back place with great music, food and staff. Thanks again to the staff and Jill for making us feel welcomed and for great friendly service. Happy eating Fam!

Sat at the bar and had wonderful service. (If you want a table, even at 8:00pm on a Monday night there was still an hour wait). Great drink selection with wonderful bartenders. Food was 4/5 stars but still pretty yummy.

A trendy, hip gastropub with an emphasis on good burgers and good beer. They have plenty to offer aside from that as well - the hummus is great, and the dressing on The State Salad is particularly tasty, and their cocktail game is strong. They just remodeled and it's looking as modern and vibey as ever. Busy at peak times so consider a reservation. I've been so many times and never had a bad experience! My favorite stop in all of the Inland Empire! P.S. They might or might not have a speakeasy here... Guess you'll have to find out!

One of the better places in Redlands, where I grew through high school, and definitely much better option than what we had growing up. But this place feels like it's digressing and I can think of at least 3 better options -- Citrus and Grove (food and cocktails), the oyster place in the alley behind state (food, wine and environment) and Copehouse (cocktails). We ordered a medium rare burger and it was way over cooked. I ordered the last word cocktail with mezcal and the bartender swore it was his favorite and knew how to make it, but way too acidic, no balance between the ingredients and just a poorly executed cocktail. Couldn't finish it because it was so tart. Then we tried to order 2 cocktails since it was last call only to have the bartender tell us they can't sell us 2 drinks at the end. Seconds later we hear the other bartender ask the customers 2 seats from us if they wanted to double up on drinks since it's last call. We ask our bartender about that and he says he actually didn't have amaretto (an ingredient for the 2nd cocktail we ordered) and not that he couldn't serve 2 drinks at the end. What's the point of lying to a customer. Just tell us that. You're in the service industry for a reason. There are no cocktails, whiskeys, spirits, or beers you're serving that customers can't get elsewhere. The service is usually a distinguishing factor and The State fails in that respect from my experience. For those who may wondering if this is based on just one visit. It's not. I've been there about 10 times, most before they were closed for construction. The service and cocktails were inconsistent but they were still getting their program up and running and felt like they were trying to find their niche. It didn't feel fair to share that review then. But now they've had more than enough time to get that all resolved but it feels like it will be that way for the team. Appreciate the ambition but the skillset and execution is lacking. The new decor and lay out looks amazing though.

This is a great place to come for a date night during the week when it isn't so packed. During the weekend it is very busy and loud, which makes it pretty hard to carry a conversation with the person you're with. The menu is simple, but the food is very good. It has a classy atmosphere that makes you feel like you are treating yourself. I've been here a few times with my girlfriend, we always enjoy it.

I've been to this place in the past, pre-covid, but tonight was my first visit since their renovation and reopening... Wow!! Such a cool vibe, sort of steam-punk-through-the-looking-glass feel. I had the Chicken Pesto sandwich, which was absolutely delicious. Juan, our server, was superb as always and took great care of us. Fabulous place with a lot of character and passion infused into the atmosphere, food/drink, and service. Love it!

Absolutely delicious, went here for my 11th anniversary with my wife and the food was absolutely delicious, they made a little sign for our anniversary, the service was amazing, and the drinks were great. My only complaint was that my whiskey sour needed just a little more sweet to it- and that's my fault, I requested rye instead of the standard bourbon. So go here, get what sounds good, and don't change it, they got it all dialed in.
