Had a delightful & delicious lunch at Magoga while on a cruise that stopped for one day in Cartagena. We spontaneously walked-in & only had about an hour to eat before needing to get back on our ship. The staff was amazing & they quickly put together a lovely meal for us. The cheese cart was INCREDIBLE! Everything tasted like they put so much love & attention into it. We wished we could have stayed longer to enjoy this very special place. We returned in 2017 with high hopes and unfortunately we were disappointed. The service was not great, which resulted in my main course being cold. The monkfish was tough and flavorless. It was served with ashen yuca root...good idea if it is served hot, but was cold to the touch. Wine was expensive and poor quality. Dessert, we chose torrija, a very typical dessert from this region, and we did not care for it--too much anise taste in the sauce. Overall very disappointed. I am hoping we just came on an off night, and we will likely still return. For Cartagena, this is still one of the best restaurants.

We were slightly less keen on the pork main course that lacked any sort of refinement and was overcooked, the texture having been spoilt and I thought given the excellence of the previous courses a pavlova was a rather unimaginative pudding; well executed and presented, but we make that at home, down to the rose cream the chef used.

We requested medium which almost but didn’t overpower the delicate sea bass. We followed with the suckling pig which was so tender & succulent & not forgetting the crispy crackling. This was followed by a chocolate pudding which was perfect for sharing. My americano coffee was enchanced by being served in a delicate china cup. My partner’s triple filtered coffee lost heat through the prolonged process however. The service was faultless & the recommended wine was enjoyed so much that I made a note for future reference. My only regret is that we are sailing so are now further south so won’t get the chance to try more of the menu.
