Treated
for
Displaced
Scaphoid
Fracture:
Some
months
back,
I'd
an
ill
fated
fall
on
an
outstretched
hand,while
playing
a
game
of
cricket.Initial
radiographs
confirmed
that
one
of
my
carpal
bones
was
indeed
fractured,however,this
particular
bone
can
turn
out
to
be
very
troublesome,owing
to
its
peculiar
healing
properties.
It
was
confirmed
that
I
needed
a
surgery
because
of
the
severity
of
the
fracture.While
I
was
in
consultation
with
another
orthopedic
surgeon,
my
intuition
suggested
to
have
this
surgery
done
by
a
trained
Hand
surgeon
and
that's
how
I
met
Dr
Darshan
Kumar
Jain.
From
first
consultation,to
surgery
and
now
to
confirmation
of
healing
,
the
entire
experience
with
Dr
Darshan
was
reassuring.
The
treatment
plan
-
well-guided,
the
surgery-
well
executed
with
minimal
incision
and
after-surgery
medications
and
casting
-
dosed
right
and
scheduled
(6
weeks).In
a
nutshell,
I
felt
my
hand
was
in
the
safe
and
highly
trained
and
experienced
hands
of
Dr
Darshan
My
sincere
thanks
and
regards
to
Dr
Darshan
for
also
his
courteous
and
respectful
"Doctor-Patient"
conversations.
Few
Pointers
for
Anyone
dealing
with
a
Scaphoid
Fracture:
1.
Do
not
neglect
any
injury
in
the
wrist
area.Most
scaphoid
fractures
can
be
mistaken
for
a
muscle
sprain
,unless
the
break
is
severe
,as
was,
in
my
case.
2.Early
treatment
is
very
crucial
-
Surgery
will
be
required
on
the
classification
of
the
fracture
and
if
that's
the
case,
don't
hesitate
to
get
it
done
at
the
earliest,
as
delayed
surgeries
can
still
result
in
complications
and
revision
surgeries
with
bone
grafts
can
be
avoided.
3.Consult
a
hand
surgeon
-
The
surgery
must
be
well
executed
and
a
lot
of
variables
need
to
be
properly
addressed.
-Surgery
approach
-Screw
length
and
Dia
-Screw
positioning
-
Central
axis
-Retention
of
the
shape
of
the
bone
Only
an
experienced
surgeon
with
lots
of
cases
of
scaphoid
fractures
can
ensure
these
factors
are
well
addressed.
