I really enjoyed the food and atmosphere here. The burger is outstanding. It had a great flavor and was cooked perfectly. The server was attentive. I also enjoyed the sticky toffee pudding. The selection of scotch and beer here is good if that's what you're looking for. I am hoping to come back soon and try more. (Updated review because the Haven has a new location. Old location "had some cute seats in the window!")

We were all underwhelmed. We stopped in on vacation, favoring local fare over chain restaurants. Maybe the experience was distorted by the poor service we received. To be fair, the other tables around us seemed to have great service. People who showed up after us all had their orders taken before us, their food and drinks came quickly. Our server seemed to forget about us and we had to yell for him to come to us after several attempts of getting his attention went unnoticed. Unfortunately, the food was overpriced for being so bland. $10 for a single scotch egg or sausage. No seasoning on the potato wedges, not even salt (that I could tell), and burger. The mashed peas that came with the haddock were cold, which may be intentional, but it's odd. My family wasn't prepared for the lack of options on the menu, so I provided a picture for future hopefuls.

Have been here a few times and it’s always a great time! Food is very tasty and authentic (sticky toffee pudding is a must!). Most recently came in for brunch and the Bloody Mary was excellent! And Abbi was such a pleasant and friendly server. Will definitely return!

My experience at The Haven in Jamaica Plain was unfortunately disappointing. We booked a reservation without knowing that the lunch menu was incredibly limited. The offerings were not only sparse but also came at a surprisingly high cost. The portions, from the Birdies to the Cheese Plate, were notably small for the price. It left us feeling unsatisfied and questioning the value for money. While the ambiance was pleasant, the limited menu and high prices make it challenging to recommend The Haven for a satisfying dining experience. UPDATE: Thank you for addressing my concerns. However, the dismissive tone in your response only amplifies the unprofessionalism we encountered during our visit. The slow service, coupled with small portions and high prices, was disappointing enough, and your response unfortunately adds to the overall negative impression. I hope you consider addressing these issues more professionally in the future. Thank you for taking the time to respond to my review. While I appreciate your commitment to offering lunch options in Jamaica Plain, my experience extended beyond the limited menu. The service, which you describe as 'unhurried,' unfortunately crossed into the territory of being unprofessional. The slow service not only highlighted the disappointingly small portions and high prices but also left us feeling overlooked and undervalued as patrons. I acknowledge the economic challenges of running a restaurant and your commitment to maintaining menu prices. However, the limited menu, combined with subpar service, made it difficult to justify the overall dining experience. What was particularly disheartening was the unprofessional tone in your response, dismissing valid concerns and deflecting accountability. It's crucial for a restaurant to address feedback constructively and professionally. I hope that my feedback, as well as that of other patrons, can contribute to improvements in service quality. A balance between an economically viable operation and a positive dining experience is crucial for any restaurant's success. I sincerely hope that future visitors to The Haven have a more positive encounter with both the menu and service.

Food was good. Loved my salmon and the fish and chips were also delicious. Good beer too! The burger wasn't great thought. We were excited about because according to some lists it was supposed to be great and we just didn't think it was, the meat had 0 seasoning and it was a bit dry.

A great spot for Scottish food, drink, and atmosphere. You'll find most of the classics here and won't be disappointed by any of it. If you're a fan of Scottish beer, this is your spot. The appetizers and entrees are all spot on. The sticky toffee pudding is good but more cake-like than bread pudding-like. The food is on the expensive side but the cozy atmosphere lessens that sting. My only real critique is that both times we've eaten here, we've felt a little rushed, which isn't quite what you want when looking for that cozy Scottish pub experience. Either way, will absolutely continue to enjoy Haven either for a beer at the bar or dinner.

Came here for New Year's Eve dinner. The food was pretty tasty and our waiter was very friendly. Favorite item on the menu was the scallops and favorite dessert was the sticky toffee pudding. Overall a pretty good experience, but hostess and other members of the staff seemed kind of stressed. Guessing it was because of the holiday. Their patio seems nice so may come back when it's nice out to try that out.

Friendly staff, greeted & seated as soon as we entered, waitress was very attentive and even asked chef to adjust a lunch menu item, appetizers arrived promptly, entrees as well, nice music & ambiance! Kudos to you all for a fun midweek late lunch treat!

Had dinner (fish supper is highly recommended) last night at the New Haven location. Fantastic environs! You have to add this to your list of restaurants to check out in Boston. We also partook in the DRAMnight and it was a fantastic occasion. If you are a scotch whisky fan then I would highly recommend. Even if you are not familiar with scotch whisky, I would recommend it for the education!

Excellent Scottish food. Of course the Shepherd's Pie is out of this world. A nice selection of drinks, particularly scotch and whiskey cocktails. Great scotch collection. The atmosphere is very relaxing, a dim candle light feel. Much better than its prior location on Perkins Street. Very happy to dine at this new location.

Fall in love with Scottish food from now on. Super satisfied. (Detail see below) Scotch egg + crispy wrap * careful with the mustard (don’t treat it as butter :) Shepard’s pie + super decent taste + satisfied with good amount of lamb + gives me a very “northern flavor” feeling The haven burger * it tastes great but i would say it’s just burger no special taste + fresh and crispy fries $35 each Will come back :)

We had a really great experience at the Haven. The service was excellent and it’s clear they put a lot of thought into their space which offered a great vibe. The food was really tasty (very! Generous portions) and our waiter recommended the perfect whisky based on our taste. Definitely recommend a visit!

Great good and environment. It’s my first time to try Scottish beer, it was pretty good. Fish and chip is impressively good, the crisp is perfect. I would definitely bring friends here for food and drink.

Wow! Wow! Wow! Me and my boyfriend went to Boston for the first time for the weekend, and we had a lot of good food but I am telling you guys this is one of the best restaurants I have been to. The food was amazing. I would highly advise you whoever goes there get the seafood plate , the service is great. The atmosphere is amazing there. Even though restaurant is a little far from the city, it is right next to Samuel Adams brewery, and it’s open pretty late night so after you get your drink from Samuel Adams, she can go and get some food from the restaurant.

By far the best burger I have ever had. I know it is rated as one of the best in the country, but personally, the best I have had. Pair the Haven Burger with a Scotch Egg appetizer and a Belhaven Black and you have my favorite meal. Follow that up with some Scotch and you have what I had last night. We went for dinner and then had tickets for Dram night. Another suggestion is to go for a dram night. Jason, the owner is a fantastic host and if you happen to be there on a night that Elias Alexander is in town it will be magical. The new location has a fantastic vibe and really does bring the environment up a few levels. The bar is lovely and well stocked. I had a great evening. I do have to admit, this is one of my favorite places to go anywhere. Even the other patrons were fantastic at dinner and at the dram night event.

Great food, sleeper on one of the best pizzas in Boston. The sauce was super flavorful and the crust was thin and the perfect amount of crisp. Our server was very knowledgeable about both the food and the drinks. He was able to explain the different types and flavor profiles of scotch, as well as various menu items. Great for a date night or to catch up with friends. Definitely will be back!

My new favorite burger in the area. Will be back soon Update: First time at the new location and I was amazed with how good everything was. Waiter was attentive and very knowledgeable of the menu and the selections of whiskey. Shepherds pie and Crème Brûlée were delicious but the biggest surprise was the pizza! Sauce was one of the best I’ve had in Boston. Will be back for more

Amazing time at the haven. The beers are really good, ambiance feels very Scottish/European thanks to the owners deep care and commitment to this restaurant. We went for Elias Alexander EDM bagpipes event which was a lot of fun.

Best Scottish restaurant in New England. Traditional highland fair with plenty of great wiskey to pair it with. You can not go wrong here. It is just as good now as 5 years ago.

Great atmosphere, many drink options, and very unique menu! The Haven is such a niche spot - I believe it's the only Scottish bar in the Boston area. The bar itself is lovely, very comfortable and well-decorated. It's the kind of neighborhood pub you want to sit in while it's snowing and have a scotch to warm up. They have many Scottish beers and ciders, not to mention Scotch! The food menu seems to be quite authentic, with some very Scottish options like haggis, but they do have more standard fare like their burger, cheese plate, and pot pie. All in all, a lovely spot with excellent staff, many options, and a very unique experience!

Terrific first experience at The Haven. Had a delightful father-son evening. Food, service, and drink selection are all outstanding. The entire staff is very gracious. Jason (owner), Sam (front of the house), Andrew and Cat (servers) all were great. Various other staff pitched in and were also very pleasant. I wish I lived closer; this would definitely be my "local." That said, I'll certainly be back.

Excellent service, really unique decor and fun ambiance, food was pretty good, but perhaps a little lacking in salt. For our appetizers we got the pigs in a blanket sausage dish- the mustard in particular had great flavor and the sausage and pastry paired wonderfully with it. The pastry was nice buttery and flaky. The macaroni and cheese came out and looked very appetizing. However, it was a bit bland, and would have been a little better with some salt or additional seasoning. For our mains, we got the fish dinner which was essentially fish and chips. The fish was a little more browned at the top than how I usually see it, but that was alright, and probably a stylistic choice. The batter was thick and crisp. The wedge fries were big and substantial but cooked a little unevenly, and again needed salt or sessoning. The scotches and elderflower cider were terrific. Overall, the meal was good, we had a great time, and I would revisit The Haven to try their other dishes.

Excellent Scottish food! The service was friendly and prompt. I had their fish and chips, which was perfectly cooked, and the side of mines peas was delicious. My girlfriend had the burger, which was equally delicious. We started with the cheese platter, which has homemade Branston Pickle! Couple that with good mixed drinks and a formidable selection of scotch. An easy five star experience.

Parking is difficult, but worth the effort. The menu is diverse and has an amazing array of Scottish foods. The entire place is much like a cozy pub, only missing snugs. The only complaint I could even muster is when we visited, the music was elevator music - nothing Scottish and would have went a long way to helping create the vibe. The meals though, wow! And the house tartar sauce, if we could get the recipe or they'd just sell bottles of it, I don't think there is much we wouldn't put it on! Even the mushy peas were fantastic. I loved the creative cocktails and the imported Orcadian beer!

If you visit Boston and don’t stop by The Haven in Jamaica plains, Shane on you. Top to bottom one of my favorite restaurants I’ve ever had the pleasure to dine in. Our server Alaina (sorry for the spelling) was wonderful. She was professional and very attentive! If you make it in for brunch, the toffee French toast was a revelation. I can’t wait to rerun! Cheers!

Well, I NEVER post reviews, but I feel compelled to write something about our visit to the Haven tonight. Simply put, this place is awesome, from the owner Jason, to the ambience, to the fantastic food (burger, curry and salmon were top class). Will def’ be back, even if it is just to hang at the bar and have a beer. Well done Jason, you have a gem of a spot..
