Came
here
on
a
quiet
Saturday
morning
for
brunch.
On
arrival,
the
upstairs
decor
is
GORGEOUS,
and
the
service
is
friendly
and
attentive,
when
needed.
Being
a
fellow
Japan
fan,
I
tried
their
okonomiyaki.
My
friends
tried
the
avocado
smash
and
full
English
breakfasts...
the
latter
two
were
great
versions
of
the
classic
brekkies,
so
much
that
I
wished
I'd
ordered
the
full
English
instead.
My
okonomiyaki
was
sadly
uninspiring
for
the
price
point
(£16).
The
batter
was
tasty
enough,
which
was
a
good
mix
of
seasoning,
cabbage
and
"THAT
sauce"
(I
assume
they're
referring
to
okonomiyaki
sauce
on
the
menu,
funny!).
But
I
was
surprised
and
disappointed
with
the
lack
of
toppings!
This
let
the
whole
dish
down,
in
terms
of
flavour.
My
previous
experiences
at
Abeno,
and
even
Kanpai
up
the
road
in
Peckham,
have
been
sooooo
much
more
flavourful
okonomiyaki-wise,
and
they
charge
around
the
same
price,
if
not
cheaper.
Anyway,
fair
play
to
this
amazing
place
round
the
corner,
I
would
definitely
be
willing
to
try
them
again.
But
I
think
the
Okonomiyaki
needs
a
good
boost
to
make
that
£16
worth
it.
For
what
it
was,
£10-12
is
just
about
acceptable.
Great
Asian-inspired
decor,
shame
the
food
doesn't
live
up
to
that
level
(so
far!)
I'll
be
back
to
try
their
other
dishes,
as
their
service
was
great.
(Just
as
a
side
note,
I
also
make
okonomiyaki
at
home,
and
add
THAT
sauce
and
the
kewpie
mayo,
but
also
katsuoboshi
fish
flakes
(salt)
and
bacon
strips
(more
salt)
on
top.
So
maybe
that
is
just
the
kind
of
flavour
I'm
used
to.
Saying
that,
the
fish
flakes
are
a
SIGNATURE
okonomiyaki
topping,
so
perhaps
that
is
all
Peddler's
version
was
sadly
missing.
Why,
though,
is
a
mystery!)
