This is one of the most emotionally moving memorials in this world. Aberfan is a tiny village in the Merthyr Tydfil Valley of Wales. In 1966 we heard on the Radio that a disaster had occurred in Wales. It turned out that a Coal Slag Heap above the village, following torrential rain, had slid silently down the mountainside and enveloped the local junior school. As a result over 120 children and over 20 adults were killed instantly. The result was the most tragic thing to happen to the village because a whole generation was left without the children and adults they loved. The effects were to echo down the years and even today, whilst walking through the Memorial Gardens, its possible to feel the cries of those children who died. The tranquility and beauty of the gardens are a fitting memorial for those who's lives were lost, and for the families who were left behind to live on with broken hearts.

Poignant place full of respect for the many killed on that fateful day. Not far away is the cemetery so go there too. Beautiful setting, carefully maintained.

The Cemetery is both beautiful and sad at the same time. Seeing the rows of graves of the young children and of the adults that lost their lives on the 21st October 1966. One of the children was a family member and my uncle was the Reverend Ken Hayes.

A poignant, emotional memorial to the unfortunate tragedy. Very moving, and though very sad, I'd recommend anyone to visit.

This is such a sad place but I'm so pleased I visited. It makes you so grateful what you have when others have lost everything.

The grief is hard to contain. But it is also uplifting that a community can show such spirit and compassion. This is a very special place of remembrance. It will change you for better. Please never forget.

A very peaceful and tranquil place. Reading the headstones is extremely sad, but it's a lovely memorial.

Beautiful garden and good place to reflect. Was surprised there wasn't more information about the disaster in the garden. But a lovely way to remember those who lost their lives

So angry to think that this tragedy could have and should have been avoided. The family and friends of the victims have had to carry these terrible memories for the rest of their life. The trustees have done a superb job of commemorating the memory of this tragic event. R.I.P. to all .

A beautiful, quiet place to remember the lives list in October 1966. The walk to the cemetery is well worth the effort too. God bless you all.

Cemetery is where those that perished in the Aberfan Disaster are laid to rest. The Memorial Garden is a 15 minute walk away. Cemetery is easily reachable from Cardiff for an afternoon trip. It's also a 20 minute walk from the Merthyr Vale station. I found the locals very friendly and helpful to direct you to the cemetery.

So sad and humbling to see all these young lives lost along with the adults. I started to tear up a little while walking, the graves go on & on & on....😥 The only comfort I found was that the parents were buried with their children & the graves are so well taken care of. It shows the devotion still after almost 56 yrs.🙏

A rather lovely place but tragic it has to exist at the same time. Those poor children and teachers. Beautifully kept.

A special place for obvious reasons. I have been to the D day beaches in France and felt the same emotions. Seeing the names of the children who died there and some of the photos of them really brought it home. Politics, greed, dishonesty and corruption are all involved in this avoidable tragedy.

It's next to a kids playground but not that easy to find. It's kept nice out of respect for the dead and has memorial trees planted by the royal family. The graveyard is also worth a visit. The memorial garden walls have the same layout as the classrooms did.

Earlier today I went to pay my respects to the Aberfan disaster moral for those who sadly passed from the tragedy. Me and my Dad found it peaceful and tranquil.
