The outside of this place isn’t to appealing… However that doesn’t have anything to do with how DEEE-LICIOUS THEY SOUL FOOD IS!!! Smothered Chicken- Baked Macaroni-Greens- Hot Water Cornbread-Dressing- Banana Pudding.. THIS PLACE IS A FOR SURE TO GO TO FOR SOME DELICIOUS TASTING FOOD!!

Nice location. Great Mac & Cheese. Good Cornbread. Food was ready quick and a good temperature. Smoked chicken wings were okay. Service was not bad or good. Greens were missing flavor and there was a staple & piece of paper in my greens turned me completely off. Packaging was not good for the price of food. Honestly, hit or miss. Willing to give a second chance. I really liked that they use smoked turkey meat in beans and greens.

This was my first time eating here and I was very pleased with the appearance, service and food. They were so courteous. A lot different from most soul food restaurants. I had smothered chicken, dressing, mac&cheese, w/cabbage. They also gave me a free banana pudding. The dessert was t the best but hey, you can’t win them all! Overall pleased and I can’t wait to go back.

The food is really good but the girls that work there could have better attitudes, they also didn't give me my pop or dessert and didn't even mention that it comes with the meal but one of the girls did open up a pop a drink it.

Yesterday I ordered on Doordash. My request was that my chicken wings be fried well well well well done. Soon after I placed the order it was ready for pick up. There's no way they could have fried my chicken as requested that quick, if so they didn't cook it fresh and just refried the ones they gave me. I called the restaurant to remind them how I wanted my chicken. Besides I was only a few minutes away from the restaurant. When I arrived the order was bagged up already. I said I hope my order isn't ready already. The man behind the counter said he made sure my chicken was how I requested and I could check while there. There's no way my food should have been done so quick. So I wasn't wasting my time looking. I got home and sure enough the chicken was not cooked how I requested, it was not fried hard. I decided that will be my last time ordering from them. Using the excuse that they were closing soon is no excuse. They close at 7pm according to the hours posted and I placed the order before 6pm. I like their food but if my request is going to be ignored I won't be spending money with them. I wish people would just listen. Cook my food how I want it so that I will be satisfied and return. In spite of the dressing being dry all the time, I still order it, I requested heavy gravy and it wasn't given of course. So yes that's it for them.

I went here for lunch today. I ordered catfish with Mac n cheese and cabbage. They told me I would get 2 fillets. I got 3 catfish nuggets 🙄. If you like your Mac n cheese dry and your cabbage crunchy, this is the place for you. However, they won't ever get another $20.12 from me.

Limited menu but the food did not disappoint. The ladies that work there are nice. The wait is pretty short about 15 minutes. That’s great for a soul food restaurant. I have already visited twice and will revisit soon. It’s great if you are desiring soul food at the moment.

My brother and I were waiting for our delayed bus across the street and decided to try this spot on a whim. The food was Certified BOMB and the lady behind the counter was so kind. I had the smoked chicken entree with yams, greens, and Mac & Cheese. The chicken was flavorful, the yams packed a delightful cinnamon and sweet balance, the greens weren’t too salty and cooked to perfection. Lastly, the Mac & Cheese was cheesy, tasty, and also another fav! 10/10 recommending to place and the food to others.

We just ordered delivery from this place(Catfish, Mac & Cheese, yams dressing and smoked wings). The smoked wings were everything but smoked. I'm not sure but they seemed a little boiled and baked. Had no smoked flavor at all. Definitely didn't look like the picture. The Catfish, yams and cornbread were very good. The Mac &Cheese was good and the dressing was ok. I would definitely go back for the Catfish.

Hands down, this is the BEST Soul Food in Chicago. Think about the best home cooked, Sunday/Thanksgiving dinner you’ve ever had...then add a sweet family memory on top, then add 80 degree sunny weather to it...THIS IS HOW THIS FOOD TASTES! So damn good and soulful. I do not work here nor do I know anyone that does...I just know good food and this it! Go, & thank me later.

Let me tell you something about that smothered chicken... nope...just try it. It will change your life. Just like I make it at the house. The perfect amount of black pepper. The chicken fried just the way I like it... very very good. Aaaand... this is about the only fast food place I know that sells hot water corn bread. It was also good.

They aren’t open on Saturdays and that broke my heart because I drove all the way to the restaurant yearning for some good food. Suggested to update hours on google.

Didn’t receive all of my order which was disappointing. Hearing good things about the mac and cheese I didn’t get doesn’t help, especially after being disappointed by the flavors of the fairly bland hot water cornbread with a bit of soapy aftertaste and the overly vinegar tasting baked beans. Ordered fried chicken and got wings. Technically a part of the chicken but should be specified that it’s just wings. I wasn’t in a wing mood and it’s not a lot of meat. Still, the wings were very good, cooked well, good flavor. The banana pudding was good as well. Not as top tier as I get back home in the south but still very tasty and best of all not fake tasting at all. It was all mostly edible except the beans but that’s largely to my vinegar aversion. Not the best soul food but I’d come back for the wings knowing that it’s wings and I’d try the greens and hopefully that mac and cheese next time.

The dressing was spolied, I spit it out expeditiously, it completely ruined my appetite, I would never ever go there again.

If you want southern coming this ya spot. The food is delicious the smoked chicken was my favorite but since I no longer eat meat the black eyed peas and corn bread are my fav

First time I came, they was outta meat… but all the sides were AMAZING so I came back to try it again! This time, evidentially the MENU IS NOT UPDATED on here…….. which is inconvenient… because the price was totally different then what I was told…. my meal came out to $23 which is crazy but….. the food is good so I won’t complain but I probably won’t be back for a while just because i didn’t appreciate that weird change.

Have had several delicious, satisfying meals from here. Love the cornbread/biscuit, greens, black eyed peas, cabbage, and usually order the fried fish but other entrées were also delicious

The brown meat was very flavorful!! All spices were tame and true to the nature of the cuisine. Umami and a pinch of sour to bring in the full flavor profile. The overall atmosphere was what you could expect from a place in this part of town but very welcoming, Arms wide open type vibe. All in all Best spot to eat out in the city. I plan to make it a common occurrence every time I visit. It is hidden so I don't plan to show a lot of my friends 10/10 hood clastic
