Shady Grove Medical Center is a pro-life organization. I'm not against pro-life organizations, but this organization portrays itself as a health services entity and carefully avoid telling you overtly that they are there to convince you not to have an abortion. To wit, the website states: "We provide free, private health services related to unexpected pregnancies — pregnancy tests, viability ultrasounds, information on pregnancy options, abortion information, parenting and community resources. These services are offered regardless of age, race, national origin, sex, marital status, income, religion or disability." During a visit to the facility to seek counseling about potentially terminating an unplanned pregnancy, they provided no actual health care opinions and instead provided literature that appeared legitimate, but upon closer review clearly focused exclusively on - and hyped - the risks associated with abortion procedures. Though the literature makes no overt religious reference, there is a logo for CareNet on the back of a pamphlet they provide. A ten-second google search reveals the following on CareNet's website: "Some pro-choice advocates have defended infanticide. As believers in Jesus Christ, we know that every baby deserves protection and that abortion breaks God's heart. Planned Parenthood and their allies promise horrific new abortion laws across America unless we act." Having religious beliefs is great. Masquerading as an unbiased health services facility is a lie, and a particularly insidious one when providing ostensibly neutral literature. Own your position, Shady Grove, and tell your clients who you are.

I'm sure this center provides great help to pregnant people who want to stay pregnant. However, if you are looking to get an abortion, this isn't the place to go. They suggest adoption as an "alternative" to abortion, which it's not. Adoption is an alternative to being a parent.

I am 22 turning 23 years old this summer. I got pregnant and had no sense of direction as to what I wanted to do. A family member informed me of the resources that Shady Grove Pregnancy Center have to offer. I called and set up an appointment, I came in with my mom and talked to the counselor about what options I really had. At this time I was looking into adoption because of personal reasons. The counselor informed me about a program that they had for single first time moms and it was a 5 week class and if you pass the class you were to receive a crib and car seat free of charge. I left the appointment still set on adoption. A week later I got a call from the counselor who was checking up on me which I thought was just really amazing to know someone I didn’t know cared enough to see how I was doing. After time passed I called back to get information on when the next class sessions started. When I called I was treated with respect and was told the lady who was in charge wasn’t in and to callback on Thursday. I called back on Thursday and found out that they were starting classes that day and she asked me if I could come in and talk to her and fill out some information. She also informed me that the next classes weren’t till the end of August which is when’s my baby was born. The classes were informative and helped me in ways I can’t describe. With out Shady Grove Pregnancy Center and their resources I would not be in the position I am today and I’m forever grateful for their staff.

Almost 9 years ago, Shady Grove Pregnancy Center was where I first got to see my little one on ultrasound. I was scared, uncertain of our future and going through so many changes. The counselors helped me through alot and I even got diapers and my first pair of pregnancy pants! Though I felt like I had no one, they celebrated this new life that was growing inside of me and that made me feel like I was somebody and that this baby was too. Nine years later, I am a proud mom of two beautiful little ones who bring me so much joy and happiness! I have grown so much (emotionally and spiritually) and I have so much to be thankful for. ♡

I had a great experience with the Shady Grove Pregnancy Center. I sought this organization for their expertise in counseling and used this service for about six months. Everyone from the front desk team member who set up my initial appointment, to my actual counselor was great! Everyone was friendly, welcoming, accepting and open minded. I was impressed with the center's dedication to ensuring their clients are well prepared for the next step in their journey. I strongly recommend this center and encourage anyone who needs any pregnancy-related counseling to seek their service.

My review is mixed. First visit was with a social worker; wasn't too impressed with her. She didn't seem to like when I said I am not religious in any way and do not belong to a church (they should maybe refrain from asking that to begin with). I kept mentioning that I was in between insurances and simply wanted an ultrasound before I moved so I could know that I had a healthy baby so far (was almost 9 weeks at the time). She just didn't seem understanding of the situation, but luckily she scheduled me for an ultrasound. Now the actual ultrasound was fantastic! The lady who did that was very kind, and was also realistic with out being rude. You get to keep some pictures of the ultrasound (it is non-diagnostic). For everything being free of charge, I can really appreciate what they do. My only advice to them would be to give a bit of privacy when waiting for the pregnancy test results, and to not be as late, I waited about 20-30 minutes both times. Also to better train the social worker to better communicate with people. I thank them for the ultrasound though, brought much relief to me!

When I first went to the Shady Grove Pregnancy Center I was really nervous. But I found the counselors friendly and non-judgmental. They gave me all my options, even privacy to think about it. When I left they gave me some information and promised to call and check up on me. It was a very good experience and I would do it all over again.

When I needed help the most, I contacted this center, and at each moment - on the phone, at the door and in the center, I was completely supported. I was educated and informed about every option, and the staff was truly compassionate and sensitive to my situation and needs. I highly recommend coming into Shady Grove Pregnancy Center if you need that support and/or want to be educated and be thoroughly informed of your options. They will support you and be alongside you as you strive to make the best decisions. I am very grateful for all of their presence in the MoCo area.

This place was a beacon of hope after an unwanted pregnancy. Being a single mom wasnt easy although i had lots of support from family and friends. This place got me in a mindset that helped me thrive and get excited for motherhood. I am 25 so its not like i was completely unprepared for life. The specialists they brought in were extrememly helpful and knowledgable. Love every moment of my mommy classes! Cant say anything bad about the center to be honest.

My partner and I met with one of the counselors at the Center - we were very lucky because instead of telling us what to do she helped us untangle the mess in our heads and come to a decision peacefully, in a safe, non-judgemental environment. I also attented parenting classes, which were fantastic, and overall received immense support from the Center throughout my pregnancy.

As a clinical social worker, I’m impressed with this Center. The friendly, caring staff offer a full range of services that a woman/family facing an unexpected pregnancy may need. This includes information about choices, referral support, material assistance, classes and after-abortion counseling. Important to note about the demographics of this locate is that these services are also available in Spanish. The Center takes an active approach to include fathers also. The Shady Grove Pregnancy Center is a great asset to our community.

These crisis pregnancy centers should be illegal for misleading girls and women at a very difficulty time in their lives. They want to make sure you don't have an abortion. That is their purpose (and you might get some preaching, too). Stay away!

If I could leave less than a 1 star review I would. I tried to take their pregnancy classes online but Holly who was supposed to help me barely contacted me even though I was very on top of receiving the videos (by the way those were awful and basic as well) was neglectful and would waste my time. I had to seek other services. Would not recommend this place to anyone else.

When I went there I was 4 months pregnant and had a big belly, I sent them my pregnancy test and they still demanded without a policy that I took their pregnancy test done by Holly at their center. They do not have a policy that states you have to have a separate test. I had a doctors pregnancy test. They asked me all kinds of questions that were targeted towards someone without a husband, with problems and so on. Meaning, if you just want to take these classes and you can use the help, you may not. My husband and I attended two classes had to miss two due to being sick (cold-flu) spoke with Holly to make these classes up, and I asked if I could do the missed classes online, via phone, video. Holly said, no. I went the following class 30 minutes prior of the start of the following. Holly wasn’t helpful at all and said “you can continue but you will not get the free car seat or cradle” that everyone will get at the end of the class. She had no mercy at all. I explained my husband and I worked until 4:30 p.m. and couldn’t make it prior to 5:00 p.m. I asked again about the virtual, telephone, or me doing the homework to make up for the two classes and she was not understanding at all. My husband is a Knight as well - they (Knights of Columbus) are who provide the food, and I do a lot of community service as well. This is not the right attitude for any institution to have. When you are a high risk pregnancy, you cannot disregard that. Being sick has another meaning. Being sick and asking for different ways that we could work these classes out and having someone who is not sick, not having the need to work two jobs, not being a high risk pregnancy and being in a job where you are of service, Holly’s behavior was not right. The center is supposed to be a Catholic center to offer services to pregnant women or couples who need the help, yet, during Christmas because I got sick (which you would think people would be more merciful or understanding) and although I asked to make up for the class, Holly refused to be of help, during again Christmas. I hope that other females who are pregnant and need the help actually get help, get understanding and the services that this center is supposed to provide. Pregnant females, specially on high risk pregnancies need flexibility and understanding and this behavior doesn’t represent any organization correctly. Magda
