I visited the Slave History Museum and was impressed with the information they chose to include in the in place. The museum designers made really good choices on what to include and how to describe it. The museum is rich with slave history and provides insight into fundamental facts related to the African slave trade generally. Try it, I promise you will love it.

The history in this place is a must see. I wish it was better maintained but in typical Nigerian fashion, we have let a good thing die. Really found the history lesson to be eye opening.

Impeccable history here. Unforgettable. One walks through chilly, photos were not allowed, but it is a monument that you must visit. It reminds us of the world's past, reminds us of what must never be again. It is the display of human power, of human greed and our quest to overpower another person. It is terribly tragic. You will find the history of slavery from start to abolition.

My experience here was mind blowing and sad all at once. Having to visualize all the struggles our ancestors went through all in the name of being held captives is just an experience I believe everyone should have. The museum has real life sculptures and even voice simulations making it look like they're real and I could almost see myself in there. I remember paying #500 per person to assess the museum, but I learnt the price can vary depending on if there's Nepa light or how many people are being taught at once. Pictures are strictly not allowed once inside and I support this strongly. Thus pictures I'll share are just around and outside the museum. There are instructors who would explain every piece you come across and heaven bless them because they don't get tired. I'm a very curious person so I'm surprised my questions didn't tire them out. There is a larrrrgggeee boat inside of there that had enslaved people arranged in layers and that one had me tear up. They also sell nice history books and films there. I highly recommend. I however believe that the visitors should not have to bother about light when visiting a museum (Nepa/generator problem should be resolved internally) that was the only turn off for me.

It's a wonderful place. You'll get to see some things that were used during the slave trade era. The staffs there are awesome and friendly. The entry fee to walk through the Slave Trade Museum is N1000 for an individual. Sad that you're not allowed to take pictures when you're on the tour, tho I feel it's better that way, but at least you need some memories too😁😁 Sad also that the place is not been funded by the Government, as they now operate based on support and the fee from touring the museum. Generally, I'll say the experience was amazing..🥰

History is well documented and presented here in an uncanny way. Also there’s a breathtaking view of the river outside. You need to see it for yourself.

Slave Trade Museum is located inside Marina resort in Calabar, the capital of Cross River State. Personally, my visit there was insightful and very fun. They have very well organized protocol to help you understand the history of slave trade, coupled with staff with great wealth of knowledge to tell the stories. I was also able to get other hard copy materials (books and dvd disc).

Staff was terrible. There must be so much interesting information, but the iPads provided give next to nothing. And, it’s only offered in Portuguese and English. This museum is probably on every tour guide’s itinerary. No other languages offered? It’s an iPad for goodness sake’s. Not worth the time.

The place is cool. Talks about the history of slave trade in Calabar. A friend of mine told me that she cried when she went there for the first time. The sculptures look real and they actually have some of the whips & chains that were used on the slaves back then. They don't allow taking of pictures inside sha and gate pass is N200

Established in 2007 and opened on 17 March 2011, the museum was established as a tourism initiative by the Cross River State and is directly managed by the Nigerian National Commission for Museums and Monuments.[1] It is located at the site of a fifteenth-century slave-trading warehouse in Marina Beach.[3] The building which houses the museum is a former barracoon (holding cell for slaves).[2]

If you want to know what really happened during the slave trade era, you can visit this museum! Photos are not allowed here but the experience is worth it and the Access Fee is very affordable as at the time(August 2019) of the visit it was ₦300(Just Under a dollar). You'll see real live simulations with audio visuals of some of the events that happened during the slave trade era! Great place to be if you want to learn about the dark days! I suggest you visit whenever you're in Calabar, you won't regret it!

Easy to access. Located in a resort, with other site attractions. Rich historical portrayals, with realistic sculptures, pictures, drawings and illustrations including real life artifacts. Audio impressions also. Frankly, one of the most impressing slave trade museums I've been in. The building can however use an upgrade.

(Translated by Google) Museums telling the story of slavery are always poignant. It is a good thing that this museum exists. The visit started well but in the end the guide was on fast forward, so he just turned off the light once we arrived souls in the last room! 😂😂😂 you could say that I was not happy at all. After a few weeks in the country, I understand better the challenge of those who use power generators. It's a shame that the visit is shortened for things like that because the museum is still not free, 500 N entry. It's worth a visit because it helps to know a little more even for those who already know. Local government should still invest a little more means to give it more cachet.
