We visited Fort Mountain State Park recently and we had a wonderful time. Since we have visited all 56 Tennessee State Parks we thought we would visit Georgia State Parks. We are glad we went here. We enjoyed seeing the 4 story look out tower. It was a hike to it but not to hard. There is a lot of history here and several plaques are placed so we could read them. From the tower we hiked to the over look. Wow. This has amazing views here. We also drove around the park and we saw a nice lake and campground. There is another trail that goes to a waterfall which is nice. Overall great experience. Can't wait to go back.

We had a good time exploring just a small part of this park. We hiked to an overlook, the tower, and the stone wall. Our trail wasn't too long, moderately challenging, and well marked. The park is pretty well maintained. There were other hikes near a lake it looks like as well as much longer hikes, bike, and horse trails. Wish we had time for more.

Beautiful scenic point, hike was not bad as well. Air get thinner on the top, hiking boats are must. Definitely recommend.

We went on a quiet Friday afternoon and the trails were nicely sparse. Cool springs overlook is a paved less than 5 minute stroll to a beautiful overlook looking at the east side of the Chattahoochee national Forest. We hopped back in our vehicle and made a short quick drive up further and went up to the West overlook where the Stone Tower trail also is. The trails are yellow blazer and after you walk about 15 minutes you will come to a Y. Taking the left to the West overlook. It's beautiful. Altogether it's a easy/moderate 25 minutes to the West overlook, but I would not want to be on the trail when it's wet as it's somewhat rocky and rooty There's an impressive series of stairs and deck cantilevered over the lookout. Overall very nice trails.

What a peaceful and beautiful place!! This whole campground is nice as a while but compared to other state campgrounds this one doesn't get much attention. The roads throughout are in need of some repairs! Only one washer and dryer for the whole place, if you're staying lakeside you have to go to the other campground. The yellow papers hanging have been there for 3-4 days and still all the old campers are hanging there. There are electric panel covers hanging with 1 hinge and going to get rain in them. Not one sighting of any of the hosts. The older couple that cleans the bathrooms do a fantastic job and the bathhouses are super clean. The Putt Putt ( which needs some attention), paddle boat rental and concession at the lake is only open from Thursday -Sunday which is a bummer. The staff in the front office are very polite and helpful. One huge negative is the lack of wifi or cell service of any kind, which some campers may prefer. The playground for the kids is very nice with plenty of swings and slides, the rock wall is a nice touch! We will definitely come back.

Love this place and highly recommend for anyone visiting Ellijay, GA. Winding road up is winding in some places offering great photo ops, especially in the fall, peak being late October into November. Park with lake is very picturesque. Can rent paddle boats to go around lake. Can rent cabins or bring RV camper to camp grounds, children's playground, picnic area, and pet friendly.

Beautiful park with beautiful views! Definitely some steep climbs but the view is worth it. The lake trail is much flatter and an easier hike. We actually ran across a bear while taking a side trail from the lake! ( we were never closer than about 40 yards and we turned around immediately as to not disturb it.)

We loved our weekend adventure at Fort Mountain. The campgrounds are clean and well kept. Each spot is shaded and level. We camp in a pop up but if you camp in a tent then be aware there are gravel lots. We saw wild turkeys and bears along with other wildlife. The trails were a little long but not too strenuous. We fished in the lake but did not catch anything, but we still had fun trying.

Very beautiful, peaceful and family friendly environment. No good signal just several spots in the campground and overlook right outside the park. Big rig that is over 40’ will need more experience to locate as the roads between sites are narrow and up and down, we stayed at site #66 that is not very easy in but very easy out. Over all we very much enjoyed our 5 day staying here.

Worth visiting in the summer. Nice breezy air and a good escape from the hot weather. The lake was overcrowded during the memorial day weekend. Amazing views with hiking trails for everyone's taste. Paddle boats available for rent. Office staff were kind and helpful. Phone reception is almost non-existent so be prepared. Cottage we stayed in was in a good condition.

This campground has just about anything you could want. The sites were kind of close together and some of the turns to get in were right for those with a big camper. There was a nice beach for the kids to swim at and an area for fishing. They had paddle boats to rent and mini golf with a concession stand with snacks. The views from the overlook were amazing(see pictures). Lots of trails to hike and bike on.

The two young men at the trading post were incredibly friendly and helpful. Great amenities here. The campground is quite sprawling and it’s one of the best hiking areas in the north west quadrant of Georgia. There’s an 8 mile loop which is absolutely stunning. It is in my photos. We will absolutely be coming back here to do that country camping. The lake is absolutely gorgeous and it’s Georges highest lake. The drive up from Chatsworth is gorgeous and provide some beautiful overlooks as well

This park had amazing views. Loved the plaques of information. While Hiking up. Great time spent with my family. Being a slow time of year there was no ranger at the entrance. There were parking passes and a drop box to pay using the honor system. Both at the gate and restrooms.

Fort Mountain is our ‘go to’ camping spot. We have frequented the park many times over the last few years and have enjoyed all seasons of camping there. The bath houses are clean and well maintained, the campsites are mostly shaded and private. We love the lake loop and beach. The cabins are amazing for families with grandparents who don’t like to camp. We also love seeing the bears!

Nice for a quick, impulsive day trip, and seems like a popular place for beginner hikers or folks with young kids. Cool Springs overlook is the easiest to reach, hang the first right on the trail close to parking, and it provides the best view. My last visit the trails were super crowded, which was unexpected for a weekday afternoon in October. There is also the fire tower. It’s closed off, no entry.

I loved this park. I went to the park office (trading post), got a trail map, parking pass ($5) and advice on best views at the park. I went first to the Cool Springs Overlook, which is handicap accessible. There is a paved path to the overlook of about 200 yards approximately and you can get there by wheelchair if needed. The views here are beautiful and it was my favorite spot of all the places in the park. The second place I went to was the West Overlook, the highest point. The trail there is about a mile round trip. I would rate this trail mild to moderate; the only issues were the rocks and roots along the path. There were some steps to the overlook. I was able to walk it in sandals but I wouldn't recommend it. This path, like many state park trails, is color coded. I then went back and drove to the beach, which is very small. There are some cabins nearby and it looks like #5 has a view of the lake. The lake views were okay but not my favorite. As I left the park, I went out, turned right and the overlook there has the 2nd best views. If you want some beautiful views and some good hiking trails, this park is for you.

This park is simply beautiful. I went on a weekday so it wasn't crowded. The overlooks are stunning and reveal the beauty of North Georgia. Restrooms are available and hiking trails are easy to navigate. I look forward to returning!

What a nice place to bring the kids to swim and have some fun. Bring a lunch and some drinks. You can just chill out on the beach or do some boating very relaxing! They have bathrooms and a snack bar. They are remodeling a building there. I'm not sure what it was, but it's big. Enjoy

Fort Mountain is great and has things to do in all seasons. Hiking trails are open year around and in the warmer months there’s a lakeside beach and pedal boats available.

Great place. Moderate hike to the stone tower and west overlook. Cool spring overlook is very easy, car parking limited. Lake hike is also easy and nice view.

Fort Mountain State Park is a beautiful park and may have been the nicest campsite we have had in a state park. The site was nicely laid out and very level. The comfort station was clean and the camp hosts were great. The staff at the Visitor Center were cordial and very helpful. The trails were great even when challenging for some of my more tired joints. We loved sitting by our fire and hiking the trails. I can't way enough about this amazing park.

Our favorite glamping place in the North Georgia Mountains. Always beautiful scenery, but so colorful in the fall. Some of the best trails in the state for hiking, biking and horseback. Top quality facilities and a friendly staff.

This was my first trip to Fort Mountain State Park and I spent 4 days there. The sites were very nice The restrooms were very clean and the lake was beautiful. The staff at the park was very responsive and helpful and pleasant to speak to. Didn't catch any fish though which was disappointing and we didn't see any bears either which was a good thing 😁. Overall worthy of five stars and I would most certainly go back.

This park is one stop destination for all hiking, picnicking, camping & scenic views throughout the year. Fall foliage in autumn season are one of my favorite times to visit and spend time with family & kids for a 1.2mile loop lake trail hike around the fort mountain lake(often best seen clockwise direction). Cool springs overlook is fabulous. It is within driving distance from north Atlanta. Driving through the roads of fort mountain is colorful, fun and scenic. You can watch the tower using Tower Trail which is moderate incline and steps included. And, also get to see the stone wall through this trail. Last but not least it has biking and horse trails too. Don’t forget to watch the scenic views from cool springs overlook and have a picnic near the lake trail.

Always a great place for a hike thru some gorgeous country. Went for the black bear plunge and would recommend anyone try it.

We absolutely love this place! The cottage we stayed in was very spacious, comfortable and clean, and the staff were very friendly. The fist day and a half we got to enjoy a little snow, and the hiking trails were rugged and challenging at times but worth it. The views from the overlooks were amazing. We also got to enjoy watching the annual Black Bear Plunge on New Year's day. I would love to visit again in the summer.

It's far enough out in the wilderness to be alone and buy yourself but also relatively close to civilization. Perfect mix of hiking trails all the way from easy to slightly difficult. I would definitely check this place out if you're near. There are some legends that go along with the wall That was mysteriously guilt in the middle of the georgia wilderness. It was built like a fortress to keep people or other things out. Now more currently they have a firewatch station on top of the mountain.

We enjoyed an afternoon at Fort Mountain State Park by just taking a few short walks in the forest looking at the view and see wild flowers. There is a nice welcome center with clean restrooms. Plenty of camping spots for tents and they have cabin rentals. It is open year round.

Beautiful state park with a visitor center. Trails are well marked. The overlook is breathtaking and worth the short hike. The drive into and out of the park is beautiful as well.

Love this state park! They have a welcome center. The rangers there always have something for the kids. The first time we visited, we were given a scavenger hunt to do, and this time, we got Jr. Ranger work books. The park is very clean, with very clean restrooms. We had our dogs with us, and they loved all the hikes. The kids always love the playground area, and this time, we brought lunch to eat in the picnic area. Every time we are in Georgia, we like to visit this state park! One day, we hope to bring an RV there or rent one of the cabins!

Northern Georgia is just the place to be and Fort Mountain State Park put the nail in the coffin. The hiking trails are shaded, the overlooks are breath-taking and the lake was very pretty. I feel that there should be more markers on the trees and signs at EVERY trail intersection. I would suggest going through the week. It's hardly anyone there. You can take your time and enjoy a bit of solitude.

We enjoyed our 3 night stay. Very fortunate to get a pull through site on a weekend. Beautiful mountainous area. Awesome motorcycle ride We love riding on all the curvy, and switch back roads. When making a reservation. be wary of the site your booking and read the reviews so you know what to expect and if you will fit. Bathhouse was nice and clean.

The staff was very helpful and the campsites were in great shape. The miniature golf course could use some TLC but hey, they have a miniature golf course! I've camped here several times and always had a great experience.

Lots of hiking trail options with markers, signs, and information boards along the way. Great lookout areas and spots to see amazing wild flowers. There is a stone wall and fire watchtower on the trail me and my babe choose to hike. They have several spots to have a nice picnic or even a quick snack and water break. There are camping sites and I believe possible cabins here as well. Being honest other then knowing they are there, I've got no other information about camping or cabins. I definitely recommend this place for hiking and views though.
