Vila Sassetti is a 19th century Lombard style villa situated on the hillside between Moorish Castle and the historic city centre. The property has been a hotel and private residency and makes for an attractive building which can be viewed from the town by looking up towards the castle. If you take the hiking trail between the castle and/or Park of Pena down to the the city centre, you'll pass Vila Sassetti. The garden grounds here are very well manicured and the villa is a delightful property to look over from the outside. Not sure if the property is open for public at times of the year or if you can only view the villa from the outside. Note: There is a small detached cafe at Vila Sassetti if you want to stop for a cup of coffee and/or cake.

Small attraction on the way up to Mouros. You can get here by foot, but some people buy the ride package for 15 (up) + 10 (down). If you are not very fitness oriented it might be better to go for paid transport as it is a lot of hiking uphill and some streets are very narrow with tons of traffic. The hiking is actually not bad. They say it takes an hour but I did it in 25 minutes with a brief 3 minute stop halfway up. There are some paths with smooth ramps, stairs, but someways are really not handicap friendly… There are maps and signs everywhere to lead you around. There are ramps but would not quality this place as handicap friendly. Beautiful sights and spacious site but not necessarily something kids might enjoy as it’s more about the history and the art. No pets allowed. Bathrooms available within w short distance. Free. Cats on site, friendly.

Best way to get to Pena Castle, lovely easy hiking through the Villa Sassetti gardens (free entrance), about 40 min, but plenty benches to rest on.

I come here all the way from Czech Republic. I dreamed about this place a lot. It looks just fabulous on pirctures. So imagine my face when I realized that the park, villa and everything else is closed even in opening hours.

I visited the villa because of the trail to Pena Palace. What a nice surprise! The garden is beautiful and due to the variety of plants it seems to be in a botanic garden. Highly-recommended the trail, but for at least people who have experience with hiking (especially the last part). Not-busy spot!

The place is a hidden gem! I fully recommend visiting. The owner is really friendly and welcoming. You can feel the atmosphere of Sintra. Also prices are the cheapest we have seen so far :))) Enjoy

It is located on the way to get to the Moorish Castle and the Palace of Pena. Surrounded by nature, the Vila Sassetti is a peaceful and beautiful building that is worth a visit.

(Translated by Google) Pleasant, quiet and much of it is covered in the shade ... I use it more to access the boulder of friendship. If you continue to the castle the route afterwards is a little more tiring. In the final part, if we choose the path on the right, you will have the valley of the lakes, which is inside the gardens of the Pena Palace. About 80 hectares of surrounding area, in total about 200 hectares with the chalet of the Countess of E'dla.

If your feet can take it, I highly suggest taking the hiking trail to get to the castles (Castelo dos Mouros and Palacio de la Pena). It's a great trail through the forest and Vila Sassetti, hidden between trees, is very nice.

(Translated by Google) Very beautiful and peaceful place on the hillside, surrounded by an extensive garden with many varieties of plants and trees and with the sound of running water sliding through its landscaped interior. One should go with time to taste the sound of the silence that emerses there to give the balance that sometimes one seeks to find. (Original) Local muito bonito e tranquilo na encosta da serra, rodeado de extenso jardim com imensas variedades de plantas e arvores e vom o som da água corrente deslizando pelo seu interior ajardinado. A beautiful villa situated in the middle of a perfectly maintained lush garden. A must see in Sintra. Unfortunately it's not possible to see the villa inside.

Beautiful walk that goes from estrada da Pena near Sintra's historical center up to the Morish Castle through a 12000m² garden designed by Luigi Manini. About one third of the way up you will reach Vila Sassetti. The walk is open from 10AM to 18PM during high season and 9AM to 17PM during low season.

I didn't go to Villa Sassetti as much as I took the trail down from the Moorish Castle down to the Villa. The trail is steep and it was slippery in parts. We went down but there were plenty of people going up. I'm a hiker but the thought of using the precious time in Sintra to go up is not worth it, in my opinion. Trail is clearly laid out and well marked.

Worth walking . The lush greenery of the forest was a sight to behold, with tall trees swaying gently in the breeze and verdant foliage covering the ground in a thick carpet of emerald hues.

(Translated by Google) It is an excellent route to climb to the top of the Pena National Palace and the Park. The first section, suitable for all audiences, paved and with a beautiful garden. The second section, the one that leaves the landscaped path and that ascends, is a little harder and the steps begin, some of stone and others of earth. It is not essential, but it is advisable to wear comfortable shoes, since it is normal for the terrain to limit movements.

Overall verdict: Beautiful climb but not suitable for those with physical health issues. Price: Free admission. The cost will be on your leg muscles the next day :) Crowd: Not much crowd when I went. Entertainment value: Quite enchanting. Good for photo taking and those who like to engage in physical activity amongst the beauty of landscaped nature.

Nice villa with a beautiful garden. You can not go inside the villa but look through the windows. There’s not a lot to see and we spent around 20mins only there, but it’s still a nice spot.

Tucked away on the hike from Sintra to the moorish castle or Palace de Pena, Vila Sassetti offers a nice vantage point for overlooking the surrounding lands.

HIKE DOWN: We parked at the top and hiked down. How very delightful! My 70+ In-laws rocked the hike all the way into town. I walked up to get the car, but the bus/taxi/tuktuk options were available. This hike offered wonderful views of other key Sintra sights.
