We have been dining here for special occasions for 20+ yrs. The meals have always been exceptional tasting never a disappointment, however no matter how great tasting the meal if the service is poor or your patronage is not valued it will ruin the dining experience. Such was our case. Quickly stated. At 5pm (Our reservation time) we went to the Dale Rd entrance and the door was locked. We waited till 5:10 when I called the Hostess and was told to enter on the Bangs Rd.side. When we walked up to the Bangs Rd. entrance door there was a sign on it that said “enter on the Dale Rd side”. Frustrated we entered in the door and found an employee inside the dining room where our table was suppose to be reserved, the employee told us we had to go back outside and go to the outside gate and check in with the hostess? What? I explained to them we’d both done enough walking due to our disabilities and we were leaving. How can you enjoy a meal after this. I contacted the Manager on the phone while we were in the parking lot and he could not explain why there was no signage on the Dale Rd main entrance and improper signage on the Bangs Rd entrance and made no mention of correcting that issue. Basically he could care less about what we experienced. But all ends well as we drove to Mike’s Grill-house and enjoyed an amazing Halibut dinner, fantastic clam chowder, but most of all the service we received was above and beyond even though Mike’s Grill-House was filled to capacity.

We made reservations in advance and it's a good thing we did because it was very busy. Parking can be a problem so get there earlier. I've tried different dishes and everything has tasted great so far. The spicy chicken pasta, filet mignon, salmon, halibut and coconut shrimp were all good.

I don't know for sure, but I think there's 1 restaurant in Modesto for every 12 people, so when Clearbody Finkwhelter from Finkwhelter's Crematorium and lamp shade Company told me "Make sure you stop at the Redwood Cafe...it's the best!" ... I did! And you know what...he was right! The food was Amazing, perfectly cooked and huge by any standards. 5 stars all day long. ☆☆☆☆☆

Everything was delicious. The Manager gave us a personal tour of the place. It was a while ago the last time we came to eat here. Modesto doesn't have a lot of beautiful venues so I'm happy this place is here.🥰❤️

Let me start by saying that the food here is pricey, but excellent. The cocktails are amazing and the wine is up to par. That said, tonight was my 3rd time visiting this restaurant with my wife. The first time, in 2019, we called and made a reservation for my wife's birthday. When we showed up, they found no record of our reservation and after about 10 minutes of trying to figure it out, we walked out. The manager followed behind and caught up to us; and immediately accommodated us and got us a table on the back patio area. That was fine. The second time was during father's day 2019 and the brunch was amazing. That second experience I felt they had redeemed themselves from the first. However, this brings us to tonight, having made a reservation for 7pm for my five year marriage anniversary. Below I will list the issues we experienced tonight: 1 - We showed up at exactly 6:56pm and had to park along the canal; which was an absolute nightmare to pull out of when we left. However, upon checking in at the back entrance at 7pm, we were told our table was not yet ready and it would be five minutes. It was 15 minutes later we were actually seated. 2 - We ordered our drinks and appetizer, which we received at 7:30pm. It was then we made our order for the dinner. We did not receive our dinner until 8:33pm. During that time, we watched two other tables that showed up after us receive and complete their meals. 3 - The outdoor patio experience was absolute trash, and I don't use that type of description often. Firstly, the sun was coming down directly into our faces. Secondly, the lighting is so terrible back there that when it got darker, we couldn't see much of anything and several lights were flickering so bad we both got headaches (still have the headache while writing this). 4 - The aforementioned may not have been so terrible, save the fact my father was watching our son at home and it was 1.5 hours after our reservation that we actually got our food. Because of everything, we both of us became irritated and spent about five minutes actually eating our food before we stewed enough to ask for food boxes to leave. Lastly I will say that Sienna (sp?), our waitress, was very very good and empathetic when I brought these issues up to her. It isn't her fault and she was very attentive to us. She consistently checked up on us, and in fact we were having a decent time there initially and hadn't thought about how long the food was taking until the sun went down and we developed irritating headaches because of the lighting. All that said, we both of us decided that our experiences tonight and in the past were not up to par with $200 dinners. We will not be visiting The Redwood Cafe any further, but do hope that others enjoy their experiences there. If you have not yet tried the Pork Schnitzel and / or the Smoked Manhattan, they are an absolute must.

We had a party of 8 for a birthday celebration. Our waiter was kind enough to tell us they do not do birthday celebrations or anything to celebrate the birthday person/persons, so that is the reason behind the 4 stars including the parking, which was slim and hard to find as the parking lot is shared between two restaurants. The restaurant has no waiting area for guest, and the bar is small. We will be back as the food was very good, but definitely more of a date night place at max a double date.

really good food and nice ambience at the bar area. but they have 2 bartenders, its a Saturday night and its a good crowd. but you think the bartenders have more of a personality, one in particular who been bartending for year and half. had no personality at all, i tried talking to him, you know, small talk. i got nothing from him. later on in the night i noticed he talk more to the ones he knew. well i didn't think that was cool at all, i remind you , i did everything i could to make small talk with bartender. he wouldn't check on us, he didn't asked if we needed forks or spoons for our dessert . a very lovely lady that sat next to me had to asked him for me, even thought i didn't need her to. , i think she over- heard my frustration of the bartender to my husband. we will be back sometime in the future but i hope this chunky bartender gets a better personality and make the customers feel more comfortable. other then that, the food is really good and the restaurant is very swanky, chic looking

The wait staff was very attentive and helpful. The food was really great. My main course lacked flavor- the spicy chicken pasta. Others got the pizza, scallops, and filet and all loved it. Very upscale menu and prices for Modesto. This is a nice restaurant but not too stuffy. Wish my meal tasted better but overall it was a good experience.

I wish I could give more than 5 stars! Food is some of the best in Modesto, we had specials all around, sea scallops appetizer were so tender and delicious, I don’t think I’ve had better anywhere. Risotto of the day was a Cajun style and just exquisite. (I like spicy and it was very mild as a comparison.) Wife had the butternut squash with candied pecans and just wow. We were appropriately dressed in jeans and a t-shirt for the back yard area. It’s technically a smoking area but it didn’t disturb our meal or cocktails. Speaking of cocktails, the old fashioned is great as is the selection method for bourbon and beers. Atmosphere was a very laid back vibe with live music courtesy of Miles Davis (it was a Wednesday, look him up on IG his sound is great) and cool tropical plants and up-lighting. We love this place but it is a bit pricey. Wife and I got out of there after a couple drinks, an appetizer and a couple entrees for $200. So it’s not on the cheap side but just a wonderful experience.

Absolutely amazing atmosphere! Always very busy, so a reservation is recommended. It is a beautiful place to have a wedding reception as well. Lots of indoor and outdoor dining. Hours are unsual, so plan accordingly. The food is top notch, with good portions for the price. The risotto is a must! Mashed potatoes are on the dry side. I really enjoyed the filet mignon, juicy and tender. Coconut shrimp is delicious. The vanilla bean cheesecake was the highlight of the night! Great selection of wines, cocktails and even mocktails. The service is a bit slow, we waited quite a while for our entrees. Mention it's a birthday and get a cute little touch of a candle and happy birthday chocolate with a dessert order. Would highly recommend!

Great atmosphere and service. Food was amazing including the dessert menu. I was in town for business and discovered the fine dining restaurant. Yes prices are mid range, but what a great property and location on the outside of town.

Looking for a romantic place with delicious meals? This is it. Their service is on point, the food is amazingly good and the atmosphere is nice and dim. Celebrated my birthday here with my family. My kids got the chicken parmesan with noodles plate and was able to share it because it comes with two pieces of chicken and they split the pasta. My husband and I got the rib-eye steaks I replaced the mixed veggies for asparagus. They serve fresh baked bread with an amazing dipping sauce. We also ordered the meatballs and brushetta for appetizers and those we absolutely delicious as well. Overall amazing. Pretty pricey but worth every cent. For a family of 4 we ordered 3 main dishes, 2 appetizers, one glass wine, one club soda, one lemonade, one cocktail, brownie and the total was $230 to give you an idea and that's before the tip. I'll definitely come back again.

Beautiful inside, we had an older gentleman as our server and he was very friendly and attentive. The bussers also ensured that we had our waters full, and everything we needed for a delightful evening. The food is exceptional, especially the desert! It was a whiskey honey cake with walnuts and it absolutely melted in your mouth.

Went with 2 kids , age 6mos and 3. They found us a quiet somewhat secluded table where all could be comfortable without fear of upsetting others in the restaurant. The waiter had great suggestions for all of us, food came hot and really delicious. They have an excellent and very well priced wine list, as well. I sm from San Francisco but still plan to return to Redwood soon.

The food was cooked well, but flavor was lacking. For the price, you would hope for more flavor. The lamb was slightly overcooked (not a big deal) but lacking in any sort of taste other than the meat. Risotto and salmon were our dishes and the same problem with those. The brussel sprouts that come with the salmon were the best part. Packed with flavor and great texture. The price per plate compared to the food was not worth it. For what it's worth, our server was great and the atmosphere was good. I'm not mad we ate there, but wont likely be back.

We came to the bar for some drinks and had some legit delicious eats! Chris and Jeremy are masters of their craft, drinks are hands down the best around. Come here for the food, the drinks, the company…you will not not be disappointed.

If you're looking for an amazing dining experience in Modesto, you simply must check out Redwood Café. From start to finish, our meal was an absolute delight. The food was simply incredible - every dish was bursting with flavor and made with the freshest ingredients. I couldn't get enough of the ribeye steak, which was perfectly cooked and accompanied by a delicious vegetable on top of a bed of real mash-potatoes . But it wasn't just the food that blew us away - the service was top-notch as well. Our server, Serena, was an absolute gem. She went above and beyond to make our dining experience special, offering recommendations and making sure we had everything we needed throughout the meal. Her friendly demeanor and attention to detail made all the difference. All in all, I can't recommend Redwood Café enough. The food is outstanding, the service is impeccable, and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. Whether you're looking for a casual lunch or a special night out, this restaurant is a must-visit in Modesto.

By far, in my opinion, one of the best restaurants in the Central Valley. Service is always on par, the atmosphere is great, and I really like the decor. The food is always consistent and excellent. This is my go-to place when I have customers in from other places. I've been many times and never disappointed. I recommend reservations. Not always needed, but more often than not.

Service was great. We loved our waiter. The atmosphere is good. Plenty of options for indoor and outdoor seating. The rib eye was cooked wrong both times. The meatballs had little flavor on their own and would have been dry and flavorless if not for the sauce. The parking lot gets full quickly and you need to park in the dirt.

The lamb lollipop, and garlic shrimp appetizers were phenomenal. Cooked perfectly and not too salty-- however still bursting with flavor. The braided short rib pizza was equally flavorful and the pickled red onions/garlic really balanced and made it so you couldn't get enough of the dish. The day boat scallops were similar with a lot of depth of flavor shining through into the risotto from the veggies and scallops. The beef pasta was absolute garbage, I could've made something better at home with $15 and a non functional tongue. So flavorless and so oily. Overall though, with the slightly above average drinks and delicious scallops/pizza/appetizers, I'd give this experience 4 stars. Ambience was great as well.

Very nice setting and excellent service. Thought that showing up early on a Wednesday evening would be no problem, but ten minutes after opening they were already hopping. I had the boneless short ribs, and it was great. Large serving of tender, tasty meat. Excellent selection of wines, and full bar. Not inexpensive, but well worth it. Reservations recommended.

Love this place. One of my most favorite places to eat and have a good time. The staff there makes you feel at home and never had a bad experience. The owner walks around and makes sure to stop at every table to make sure you are satisfied. 5 star service.

Food was great and the service was top notch. My only draw back for this place is that finding the entrance was not the fastest and inside it's a bit tight spaced. The bar is fun and was lively. They have more than just the restaurant and had a big outside entertainment space and I could see it being great for a reception.

This establishment is absolutely amazing. To find such a gem located up north is truly pleasing. From dinner out with friends to an intimate date night you are in good hands. The food is made to perfection and the ambiance couldn't be better. If you have the chance to stop by you won't be disappointed. I intend to look into having an event here due to having such a great experience.
