My
day
with
Elias
and
Rosa
was
the
absolute
highlight
of
my
cruise!!
We're
talking
"authentic"
here,
folks;
NOT
the
typical
polished,
canned,
rehearsed,
performed-a-zillion-times-for-cruise-passengers
tour!
For
me,
it
started
out
being
just
about
the
sloths;
by
the
end,
it
was
an
immersive,
cultural
experience.
We
drove
all
around
the
island
learning
about
the
culture
along
the
way.
There
were
8
in
our
group.
We
started
out
strangers;
we
ended
up
sharing
email
addresses
and
photos!
OH,
how
I
wish
I
could
share
my
monkey
video
here!
What
a
giggle-fest!
I'll
see
if
I
can
send
it
to
Elias
for
posting
to
his
Facebook
page.
Half
of
the
group
wanted
to
go
to
the
beach
after
sloths,
chocolate
and
rum;
the
other
half
wanted
to
go
back
and
enjoy
port
shopping.
So
Elias
accommodated
us;
he
dropped
off
the
beachgoers,
took
the
rest
of
us
back,
and
returned
for
the
beachgoers
later.
On
the
way
back
to
port,
one
of
the
ladies
casually
asked,
"Where
do
we
eat
around
here?"
Though
"lunch"
wasn't
on
the
tour
agenda,
Elias
threw
out
2
suggestions.
Guess
what
the
group
decided?
A
short-order
grill
in
a
gas
station!!
I
kid
you
not!
I'm
telling
you,
THIS
is
authentic!
No
cruise
tour
bus
is
going
to
take
you
to
"gas
station"
to
nosh
on
out-of-this-world
pastelitos
and
baleadas
with
the
locals!
What's
more,
they
were
only
a
buck
each!
No
"gouge
the
tourists"
business
model
there!
Tourists
often
claim
that
they
"want
to
do
what
the
locals
do"
while
they're
on
vacation.
Well,
THIS
is
it!
