We
stayed
at
Infinity
Bay
Resort
for
a
week
in
November,
2023.
The
resort
is
basically
quite
nice,
lovely
pool,
lots
of
pavement
so
we
chose
it
to
avoid
sandy
areas
and
sand
fleas.
It
is
a
bit
of
a
struggle
to
get
up
the
beach
to
other
restaurants
and
shopping
because
the
beach
is
very
narrow
in
front
of
the
hotel
and
the
tides
come
up
and
you
are
trying
to
jump
around
them
or
stand
on
fence
posts.
Give
up;
you
will
get
wet.
I
don't
recommend
the
back
streets.
The
diving
worked
out
pretty
well
for
us.
I
liked
the
smaller
groups
that
we
dove
with.
It
was
about
average
diving
for
the
area.
However,
I
will
not
go
back
to
Roatan,
ever.
This
is
not
a
safe
place.
I
knew
the
mainland
was
unsafe,
but
expected
the
island
to
be
much
safer,
and
perhaps
it
is
for
what
that
is
worth.
On
our
last
night
there,
an
intruder
opened
our
ground
floor
bedroom
sliding
door
at
about
1:30
a.m.
and
entered
our
bedroom.
Stupid
us,
we
naively
assumed
the
door
was
locked
since
we
had
never
used
that
entrance.
You
get
a
false
sense
of
security
in
a
resort
sometimes.
I
now
know
that
Honduras
is
anything
but
safe.
Fortunately,
I
was
awake
and
reading
on
my
tablet.
The
room
was
totally
dark.
When
the
door
slid
open,
I
saw
a
man
silhouetted
against
a
distant
light
from
across
the
pool/resort.
I
began
screaming
and
woke
my
husband.
He
jumped
out
of
bed
yelling
at
the
man
and
ran
for
his
dive
knife,
drying
out
in
the
kitchen.
The
man
stood
quietly
in
the
corner,
oddly,
as
if
deciding
what
to
do.
I
could
only
see
his
silhouette.
I
had
no
idea
if
he
had
a
knife
or
a
gun,
so
I
quit
screaming
so
I
could
hear
any
movement.
Just
as
my
husband
came
back
into
the
bedroom
with
his
knife
the
intruder
slipped
back
out
the
sliding
door,
onto
the
patio,
and
was
gone.
We
were
completely
shaken
up.
We
turned
on
all
the
lights,
locked
and
checked
all
doors
and
windows,
closed
all
the
blinds,
and
gathered
all
the
kitchen
knives
and
meatfork
(!)
on
our
bedside
tables,
and
proceeded
to
process
it
all.
I
tried
to
call
every
number
on
the
room
phone...
no
one
ever
picked
up,
not
even
the
front
desk.
We
did
not
dare
go
outside
to
look
for
a
guard
at
the
front
entrance
or
down
by
the
beach.
There
are
too
many
bushes
and
pathways
where
the
intruder
might
still
be
lurking.
911
didn't
work
in
Roatan,
of
course.
Then
I
noticed
my
iPhone
had
the
word
"Emergency"
in
red
at
the
bottom
of
the
screen,
so
I
pressed
it.
Someone
answered,
I
assume
an
emergency
call
center
on
the
mainland,
though
I'm
not
certain.
After
they
found
someone
who
spoke
English
I
told
them
of
our
incident.
They
didn't
ask
my
name,
hotel,
room
number,
nothing.
I
asked
them
if
they
didn't
need
that
information.
She
said,
"Oh,
yes,
give
me
your
information."
I
asked
them
to
send
help,
police,
etc.
No
one
ever
came.
I
didn't
fall
asleep
until
dawn.
I
went
to
the
front
of
the
resort
in
the
morning
to
speak
to
the
manager
about
it,
but
nothing
ever
came
of
that.
Could
this
incident
have
happened
anywhere?
Yes.
But
would
other,
better
equipped
countries
have
been
able
to
respond
and
help
in
an
emergency?
Absolutely.
This
country
has
no
infrastructure
or
money
to
handle
"incidents."
I'm
just
grateful
the
man
left
the
room
before
my
husband
got
to
him
with
his
dive
knife.
Otherwise
I
have
no
doubt
my
husband
would
be
rotting
in
a
Honduran
jail.
