Just
spent
10
days
diving
with
this
shop.
Alex,
the
divemaster,
is
excellent
at
spotting
marine
life,
big
and
tiny.
Also,
as
a
woman,
I
appreciated
seeing
a
female
dive
shop
manager
&
dive
instructor,
something
that
was
very
rare
when
I
was
a
dive
instructor,
back
in
the
day.
The
shop
was
well-organized
and
efficient,
and
the
boat
was
large
and
comfortable
(giant-stride
entry).
Even
with
six
or
seven
fundivers
in
a
group,
the
boat
never
felt
crowded.
I
also
appreciated
the
diversity
of
dive
sites--I
didn't
go
to
the
same
dive
site
twice
during
my
entire
trip.
I
met
lots
of
interesting
people,
many
of
whom
were
solo
travelers,
and
many
folks
go
out
for
drinks
after
the
day's
dives.
This
shop
is
really
all
about
the
diving,
so
you
get
long,
leisurely
dives
(60
minutes!),
and
then
you
come
back,
have
a
pleasant
surface
interval
at
the
shop,
and
then
back
you
go.
In
my
ten
days,
I
was
able
to
see
eagle
rays,
turtles,
scorpionfish--the
list
goes
on.
In
sum:
chill
vibes,
nice
boat,
lots
of
diving.
What
more
could
you
ask
for?
Otherwise,
if
you've
never
dived
Roatan
before,
this
is
what
you
need
to
know:
West
End
is
more
for
the
hard
core
divers--people
who
want
to
dive
a
lot,
for
about
1/3
what
you'd
pay
on
a
cruise
ship
excursion.
You
can
also
get
your
certification
here,
for
much
less
than
you'd
pay
in
other
places.
You
don't
get
all
the
bells
and
whistles
of
West
Bay
(the
more
touristy
part
of
the
island,
where
all
the
resorts
are),
but
West
End
is
ideal
for
independent
travelers.
When
diving
in
any
West
End
shop
(and
I've
dived
at
a
few),
the
dive
briefings
are
pretty
minimal,
and
you
are
expected
to
know
what
you're
doing.
You
aren't
getting
the
deluxe
tourist
experience,
the
kind
where
people
will
be
super
nice
to
you
and
provide
snacks
and
so
on
(see:
cruise
ship
diving).
Instead,
this
is
diving
for
real
divers,
the
kind
who
want
to
dive
two
or
three
times
a
day,
for
days
or
weeks
on
end.
The
other
thing
to
know
is
that
the
west
side
of
Roatan
has
almost
no
strong
currents
or
waves
(except
on
the
rare
occasions
with
bad
weather),
and
the
visibility
is
phenomenal.
You
can
see
100
feet,
and
the
water
is
a
cozy
83
degrees
(wetsuits
are
optional).
It's
like
diving
in
an
aquarium.
Do
it!!!
