The most dysfunctional department known. Urgent care and A&E as one department?? No priority in care. No beds available. Daughter spent 12 hours at Burnley Urgent care to wait for a bed and referral to royal Blackburn. Got here next day told no beds available despite suspected internal bleeding with IBD. There is no care in place only a ridiculous iPad booking in system then see the receptionists?! Total failure of the NHS here.

Terrible hospital that has no sense of care or hygiene. Why are nurses at the AMU ward B allowed to sit on the receptionist desks during meeting as shown in the photo? Then subsequently look very surprised and embarrassed when visitors walk in? Like the one on the right clearly is.

had a cs here terrible care terrible service had my cs the very last even after telling me id have mine at 9 and being there since 8 and obviously i could not eat the nurses wrapped my baby in a disgusting shawl i thankfully brought my own, all the mothers are in a ward separated by curtains and id clearly hear the nurse ask in details what they would like and what is available while shed just tell me what i could have while slamming hot coffee all over, my husband had to bring food from home for me, thought carers were supposed to be indifferent towards race clearly not, had to clean my baby myself despite having just had a surgery in the sink because there was still blood everywhere. got my baby's name as simple as it is wrong TWICE on the birth certificate. the service and my experience here was totally abysmal

Car park situation over drop off bay outside main hospital is absolutely a disgrace ๐Ÿ˜ค the amount of car owners that abuse 10 min waiting time is down right selfish. I had a coffee and waited for my taxi in the time some cars were still parked up! My mobility is limited therefore l could only be picked up on the other side of the road. I noticed an ambulance couldn't park there either. Made a complaint for car park attendants to monitor the situation.

Dreadful service on monday 2nd May in a&e. I had waited from 11.30 am for 111 to send me to out of hours gp. The gp finally rang back at 20.50 and said I needed to go to a&e and that she would book an appointment for 22.45 for me to see someone. It was chaos in a full waiting room. The receptionist didn't seem to know that I had an appointment and asked who had sent me. The receptionist was rude and actually walked off when I was speaking to her. The young Dr asked why did I come to a&e. It seems that 111 service refered a patient to out of hrs gp service then out of hours gp sent me to A&E . During the pandemic I had to go to a&e 4 times and received excellent care despite the atrocious conditions staff were working under and I complimented the service. Sad to say RBH A&E needs to review its poor service on this occasion.

The worst hospital in the world to be honest because they killed my grandma by putting a pipes in her stomach because she didn't go to the bathroom but that wasn't to do with the issue. She had a heart attack and they didn't even care. How rude staff as well. So rude. They over doesed her with medicine and put her in a freezer once she died. Why would you do that. You should never go to this hospital even if its a small problem.

visited the A&E with suspected sepsis i have autism and i hate crowds when asked if there was a quiet room in the side i was told no there isn't. Though there is a room the police decided to use that as a temporary prison. I and another person who had autism had to stand in the entrance hallway because that was the "quietest" place to be. At the door, there were 4 huge dried blood pools. Had to leave in the end.

Appointment made for 10am, it's only taken 5 hours to get to the scan, and another 2 hours nearly to talk to a " doctor " about said scan, and what happens next?, because concerns are obviously the last thing you should care about right? .. so fast, lightning speeds, better than my internet speeds... sarcasm preferred. 5 hours to get a scan deemed important, and there was the worrying about it all, I mean 5 hours in a room full of other people in the middle of a covid issue? sign up to do it without a piece of paper over your face next time. This face resembles a fist I cringed so hard. Let it be known, this appointment wasn't made by the doctor, but by someone in A&E that rushed the scan through, not talking to PALS, they act on behalf of the doctors and not the patients ( past experience ) PALS = Patients Are Laughably Second-rate, so it feels.

My daughter went to A&E early hours of Tuesday Morning 21st July. The staff on the reception and the lady helping people come into A&E was brilliant. Once in Paediatrics a lady named Donna N (from what i saw on her name tag) looked after my little girl, she had been on a nightshift and wasn't far from finishing but still managed to be amazing and tentative. My daughter was cared for by Donna in an amazing manner, what a very hard working caring person who managed to smile and make us laugh whilst we were there. Thanks Donna!!! Your brilliant.

I would like to give my experience with my wife of radiology. We got issue of booking for ultrasound because of serious issue and pain she have. after 5 weeks from visiting GP we got letter with one date. We booked holiday for that day to go there. 1 hour before they called us that appointment was cancelled. Well perfect, thank you very much. This we got from Burnley hospital. Then we got another datum 4 weeks in Blackburn hospital, but we cannot take days off that day so we called to change datum but they told us they will send us letter again and it can take several weeks Well I just want to point it out that this system of booking and paper invitation bureaucracy is not so much working for people. I dont know if somebody have experienced something same but i would welcome to change this system of booking when somebody have an issue.

I was in A&E for 2 days waiting to get admitted before the change over doctor decided to discharge me despite not being 100% as I had improved but could have easily gone to my former state. I was sat on the same seat in a&e for 8 plus hours with a nurse putting a drip on me and leaving it for hours unchanged despite it needing to be changed. There were older people waiting longer then me. Something needs to be done.we are becoming a 3rd world country

Long live the NHS. Even though there are huge waiting times for various services within the NHS for the lack of government foresight and financial commitment throughout. It's still the best and most enviable health service in the world which is free. I've recently used the service and I was seen quickly and treated fairly in terms of waiting times. Fortunately I wasn't suffering from anything serious. If I was, I have full confidence that speedy treatment would have followed. Even though the resources are severely stretched.

Fantastic service from staff in A&E who are obviously overworked and face daily abuse from the worst of society who have no respect for the them or those who are waiting to be seen. Thank you - we are lucky in this country to have the NHS.

Thank GOD i would never have to be a patient here !!! The receptionist (male northern attitude) on duty 22.20pm Sunday evening absolute disgrace! Needs training! No way of finding out where your relative is in this god forsaken dump of a hospital! Nobody answers the phone in A&E! This would not be tolerated anywhere else in the UK! IMPROVE

Blackburn royal hospital is always very busy. The staff are very hard working & always running about helping people. Accident & emergency always a very long wait but the staff do there best & you are always seen to & treated no matter how long it takes. The ambulance service is very good too. Hospital cafes & canteens have a variety of hot & cold foods & drinks & there are also vending machines for snacks & drinks

Went to a&e yesterday morning because I was having trouble breathing and had chest pains, at first they didnโ€™t want to see me as Iโ€™m 16 and didnโ€™t go with a parent (my mum was in Preston and doesnโ€™t drive, I was staying at my boyfriends house) they eventually saw me and said nothing was wrong and to go home, went home and a few hours later ended up in Preston hospital, ended up being put on a nebuliser and given medication. Staff where lovely but I feel like they just wanted to get me out of there and it couldโ€™ve ended up in a worse situation if my mum hadnโ€™t of taken me to the hospital again.

The care at The Royal Blackburn Hospital was outstanding. All the staff were very thorough, caring, attentive and relatable and after a diagnosis was made, the treatment was swift. The ward rooms were very clean, the TV easy to use and the meals were delicious I would definitely recommend this hospital.

On Saturday 29th January 2022, had a endoscopy and gastroscopy procedure. No one looks forward to these procedures but they have to be done. The staff in this department were kind, considerate, caring and supportive. You are soon feeling your normal self, a little discomfort for rest of the day, but back to normal the next day.

Absolutely disgusting. Patient, 85 years old Alzheimerโ€™s sufferer, admitted, caught covid on the ward, had an appointment on Monday for fracture clinic, discharged Sunday even though family had no means of getting back Monday. Home for 30 minutes, fell again, banged head, back to a&e โ€ฆ. 8 hour wait to be sent home to stay alone. Absolute shambles. No communication with colleagues, no concern for elderly patients. You are an utter disgrace, you even lost her items on the ward. You give a failing NHS an even worse name. You should be ashamed of your failure. And your grounds are disgusting too!!!

I would like to thank ALL THE STAFF on ward B14 at The Royal Blackburn Hospital. Your team is amazing, looking after me so well, I really appreciate your care and your happy atmosphere whilst Iโ€™ve been here. You always make long days here easier to deal with, fast, effective, and calming. Best hospital Iโ€™ve ever been to and the most amazing staff Iโ€™ve every met. Regards Sherry

Awful hospital. Some of the staff are plain rude. One of the consultants in the general surgery side is so rude and aggressive we have put a complaint in about him. I will avoid this hospital like the plague in future and go to others further away (you might even catch that here). Only positive is that is a great advert for private healthcare.

I have just spent the last week in Royal Blackburn Hospital. Ward B8. I would like to say I have had wonderful care. The staff (even though they are rushed off their feet) are amazing, nothing is too much trouble for them and they genuinely care for their patients. They all deserve medals (and a huge payrise)

86 year old father with suspected heart attack had to wait for 36hrs in a corridor on a wheelchair before admitted to a ward.... the area was called 'fit to sit'..... Ridiculous service... third world.....get better treatment if you had a flight delay at Manchester Airport. God help anyone who needs to use this place...

Mr Father in law has received a letter of someone else's details with full name, address, and his treatment plan. I have rung switchboard twice who where very unhelpful. I was put through to customer liaison and I listened to a long message and at the end of it I was told to leave a message. Which I have asking for someone to contact me. I have also been put through to PALS and I had to listen to another message and leave a message, which I did. No one has come back to me yet and Mr P (who I have no idea who he is) needs swabbing before his elective surgery his full details are now in my hands. Presumably he does not know a district nurse will be visiting him. Very poor in my opinion.

Extremely grateful for the wonderful staff in Paediatric Urgent Care on 6/5/23 in the early hours, I can not thank you all enough, special thank you to Advanced Practitioner Sinead who really took the time to listen to me, go through everything and reassure me that my son would get the level of care he needed. Also the staff on the Children's obs and assessment unit where brilliant too. After 48hrs of been at my wits end with gp and 111 and urgent care at another hospital. We got answers, treatment and my 11month old is finally on the mend.

I had to vist A&E today following a bad fall resulting in swelling and bruising to my head and eyes. Also I had significant loss of skin & tissue to my lower arm plus various cuts and bruises on my body. The staff were amazing, from the ambulance guy I asked for help in the grounds (my husband drove me), the young lady on reception and the medical staff who sorted me out. I was seen as a priority and had a CT scan and X-rays with appropriate dressings during a visit of just over 3 hours. Iโ€™ve an apt with plastics for my arm at Preston hospital tomorrow which is so appreciated. The NHS is under so much pressure, as witnessed by the many trolleys on the corridors and yet I was treated with empathy and dignity. A big big thank you from me and my husband for looking after me today. You guys deserve everything and more x

The experience my husband had for his robotics surgery was excellent and second to none. All the staff involved from pre-op, admissions, time in surgery and on the ward couldnโ€™t have been more efficient and kind. Canโ€™t thank them enough. The NHS at itโ€™s very best!

Sorry to say , I wanted to give 00 star. I have a big complain about doctors and nurses. I think all cleaners , patient assistants and food servers are much better then Doctors. Doctors are very unprofessional. I saw all doctors are asian ethnic but they don't like asian parents. Even in front of the urgent care reception had two asian ladies they talking like a rubbish. They don't like to give any answer of any question. I just ask them can I have some water because that time that time I was not able to talk or movement but they ignored my request. Anyway today I went there as a Emergency patient and I came without traitment. Good bless for next victim ๐Ÿ™

Two month old in for 9 hours, left without diagnosis, no plan of action, doctors appeared unfamiliar with standard over the counter products. Disappointing experience to say the least. Positive was that nurses were friendly and appeared to know what they were doing.

Spent over 6 hours in A&E today. Could not fault the excellent care given by all the staff. The initial triage staff, the nurses and doctor were excellent as was a member of the cleaning staff who kindly made us a hot drink. The only negative is the new location of the hospital pharmacy. Can't believe that someone thought it a good idea to close the one in the hospital building and move it outside at the very top of a dark car park. Not sensible or patient friendly!!!

I was taken onto ward C18b for the blood clots in my leg. I cannot fault the care I received, nor can I honestly criticize any of the staff from cleaners to ward Sister. I was treated with kindness and compassion, and we had a few laughs along the way. Thank you ladies and gents - be good, and if you can't be - be careful

Extremely unpleasant experience my first time as an outpatient. Went to my appointment to ask for advice from the specialist team. Was met with a incredibly disrespectful and unprofessional individual who provided ZERO support or advice. This doctor criticised everything I said, questioned everything I was doing to manage my condition in a negative manner. One of their many disrespectful responses was โ€œI should know betterโ€ . This doctor did not provide any help or assist me in anyway. I have NEVER been made to feel so uncomfortable and unwelcome in a clinic. Thank you to the incredible nurses who did a great job in reassuring me and providing exceptional support. I would hate for any other patient to go through the same experience I had.

My dad was rushed into hospital A&E with breathing difficulties and pneumonia and from the start in A&E to being on wards in C3 OPU I cannot fault any of his care. He has been cared for really well from the paramedics, Drs, nurses, carers, porters, clearners, cooks and everyone involved in his care. We cannot thank you enough. Thank you for caring and all your hard work & selflessness, much appreciated (Franks family) xxx

I cannot fault the A&E ,my son was in for 13 but everyone was doing their best the staff weren't sat round drinking tea and eating biscuits they were working their butts off to look after the patients there. Recently had to go into hospital twice. One time I was 'blue lighted' there. All I can say is all the staff at Blackburn Royal are kind, helpful and caring. Yes, there are bed shortages but still the staff are with you working hard. I have severe anxiety and didn't want to go to hospital but all my worries and concerns were dealt with. Can't praise them enough. Thank yoy

My mum is on Ward C5 at the moment and I have phoned daily as I live 400 miles away in Scotland. Whenever I phone the staff are so friendly, and 'nothing is too much trouble', I have even been able to have a conversation with her, which was lovely. I realise they are very busy and I tend to phone about 8.30am -9am but they are always polite and lovely. I feel very reassured that she is getting the best care possible and with her being 92 years old it's certainly a comfort when I'm so far away from her. Thank you the staff of Ward C5 you are doing a fantastic job and I can't thank you enough!! Janice

You have to sign in on ipads dotted around the reception area before a receptionist will speak to you. The machines told me to ask a receptionist for emergency help due to chest pain, I did and was told to sit down. There is nowhere to sit when it's packed and it was over 2 hours to be seen by triage. The receptionists had a lovely evening though, they were looking at chicken and gravy pies on Google images whilst the ipads did their jobs for them. All in all 7 hours from start to finish. ๐Ÿ‘Ž

Some of the staff in Standard Ambulatory Care were unecessarily rude and aggressive. Enquired about waiting times because of childcare and was given an extremely curt reply by the receptionist. One of the nurses on the ward was also quite rude to myself and some of the other patients. I think some of the people on this ward are in the wrong job. A little bit of kindness to someone in pain goes a long way. EDIT have changed my rating to 4 stars as the doctor and nurse I saw in the end (after a 6 hour wait) were very kind, reassuring and helpful. They were obviously stressed and overwhelmed but they didn't let that affect their professionalism. It's such a shame that the NHS is so understaffed and underfunded. It really isn't fit for purpose.

I had a prostatectomy on 10th Nov 2021 and the care and skill of everyone I came into contact with at Blackburn Royal Hospital was fantastic. From entering the hospital through surgery and then recovery on Ward B14, the staff were exceptional. They went out of their way to ensure I was looked after. In fact, the whole Urology team has been brilliant. And the food was also good (many choices available)....

I attended a Hospital appointment at the Chest Clinic today very hot and breathless. I was greeted by a friendly receptionist that reassured me and told me to take my time. It was cool and airy, just what I needed and plenty of space between people there. A young Mum came in with a helpful member of staff but looked anxious and was given the same friendly greeting by reception staff and an interpreter was waiting for her. The Mum and her children were all smiles and looked a lot happier within a few minutes. I canโ€™t praise the staff there enough for making so much effort for all the patients and carers there even though it must have been a long hot day for them. They certainly worked well as a team but I would like to also thank Sally for treating me in a kind, courteous and non judgemental way. Thank you.
