I'm giving a 1 star because I'm tough on pet stores, especially those who specialize in Aquatics. I've been in the exotic hobbies for over 25 years and proper husbandry is #1. As I first walked in the door, I thought I was in for a treat seeing how well the Discus looked, but the fish room had many dead fish partially eaten, and deteriorating. I get it, not everything shows up healthy and the shipping process can be very stressful on fish. My problem is not removing the sick, dead, or injured fish from the tank. What really wrenched my gut were the Axolotls! Bellies full of sand and rocks to big to digest, tank was at room temperature which was mid to high 70's which is too high for axolotls, and one had a severe bacterial infection. I brought this to the attention of the employee who was working the counter, to which he replied, "we know, it's being treated." Please tell me how you are treating this axolotl, while it's in a tank with the very same rocks and sand that fills its belly, and while still in a display! The treatment of these axolotls is nothing less than cruel.

This is the best aquarium store in St. Louis. And I’ve been to them all. No other store comes close to the aquatic plant and aquascape selection. Mind blowing corals, a full reptile, tarantula, and dart frog section. Tons of rare freshwater and saltwater fish. Driftwood, seiryu stone, high end aquatic shrimp. They have it all. Beautiful old building with 10 foot tin ceilings, urban jazz music in the background. Even if you don’t have a fish tank grab a drink or a bite at one of the 6 or 7 restaurants on the block, and take a stroll through the aisles like I did. You may just end up leaving with a new hobby…

This place has new owners and is even better than before. The guys there are very kind, knowledgeable, and helpful, and definitely care about both their customers and their animals. Everything is clean and tanks are beautiful. They recently helped me with some hardscape and plants for a new Chi 5 gallon tank which came out beautifully, thanks to them!

I have now been there twice. I have been there during their operating hours and there is nobody there. I would be a new customer. But I don't think I'll try this a third time....

These guys are amazing. I’ve been going to Art of Aquaria for about a year now. They are the only fish store in the St.Louis area that I’m willing to go to. I always have a positive experience when going in for a visit, and they have amazing customer service. I’ve never felt inclined to leave a google review for anyone, and these people definitely deserve it!

This place is so cool + the new space is awesome with dedicated rooms to nano, aquascaping, reptiles/amphibians and even plants in front. St. Louis is lucky to have an LFS like Art of Aquaria and I would be here all the time if I still lived here

My favorite aquarium store in town!! The staff are all phenomenal and are very welcoming, knowledgeable, and friendly, which helped to make the hobby much more accessible to a newbie like myself. They have a great selection of both fish and plants, and everything is high quality- happy and healthy! Sad to see them leave their tower grove location, but excited for opportunities ahead on Gravois!

The best variety of pretty much everything anyone could ever need involving fish, plants for your tank, salt water supplies and even amphibians/reptiles! Location is amazing and the staff is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. They'll even test your tanks water. Best shop of its kind in town! They are available for tank installation and maintenance. Corey and DJ are always happy to Answer questions and take care of us.

Incredible store. Staff members are knowledgeable on aquarium keeping and very friendly. The vibe of the store is upscale and reminds me of a gallery or museum. Fish are in great condition and their nano room is incredibly designed and stocked. The hard scaling room allows for customization of tank decor and gives an impressive edge against retail pet store plastic decorations and fake plants. The store has many live plants and fish of all shapes, sizes, and price ranges. Must visit for any hobbyists and aquarists in the 314. Very pleased with the danios and platy i received from them.

I recently have become enamored with Aquascape and community tanks. I have one tank that’s been going for several months and just started a 10 gallon shallow. I got almost everything I wanted for set up, animals tanks plants substrate etc.. from this store and I always come in with a million questions! Every employee I’ve talked with there is always so helpful and patient with me, and gives great suggestions. It seems like they really care about the hobby and getting other people into it! They have so many options for tanks/ lighting/ animals/ aquascapes/ plants (terrestrial and for aquarium)! It’s my favorite fish store to go to for all my freshwater tank needs and I always recommend it to anyone willing to listen!

I love this place! They are very knowledgeable and helpful. They never try to upsell us stuff we don't need. And it seems like they genuinely take good care of their fish and other critters.

I've bought a few fish with no knowledge and the friendly people over at Art of Aquaria have helped me take care of them. Nice, friendly staff and a great location South of Tower Grove.

It hurts me to do this to a mom and pop aquarium shop but it's places like this that ruin the hobby for many people... Went in for the first time and I didn't find anything I was interested in. Some neat stickers caught my eye so I figured— you know what, let me purchase SOMETHING to support the LFS. They were priced at $3 each and I asked if I could get x4 for $10. No big deal if they couldn’t do that. I use to work at an aquarium shop and would be more than happy to either bargain or politely let customers know that the price is fixed. The individual working there (short haired blonde guy) immediately tells me “This isn’t Walmart or Homedepot, you can do that over there but not here”. I politely told him— “okay no big deal, I’m not saying this is like Walmart. I use to work at a shop and bargaining was never an issue but I totally get.”. I was actually in the process of pulling out the extra $2 to purchase them full price when the guy snapped at me again explaining that this isn’t Walmart, go somewhere else, etc etc in front of the rest of the customers. At this point I put my money back in my wallet, politely let him know that I don’t appreciate how rude he is being, and left. The only first impression this LFS accomplished is losing my trust and business. Best of luck guys.

This is an edited review. After talking to the owner about problems that occurred with the fish I bought, I got refunded. Nice people who are willing to make their customers happy. Will visit them again next time I go to St. Louis.

I really want to support a local fish store but starting to see a real pattern of buying sick fish from here. Part of it's on me for not having a dedicated quarantine tank but they certainly don't quarantine or use preventative meds. Just bought a really cool Betta and a couple of Cory Cats and the Betta and 1 Cory is dead along with several of my long time healthy Cardinals and Kuhlis. Betta was healthy and lively till he got in with the other fish then the fin rot set in. Treated with salt and Kanaplex but was too late as multiple fish had already died. Had issues in the past with sick fish and never said anything, tried to give them the benefit of the doubt. Shame since I avoid Tropical World for similar issues in the past. Also prices seem to be getting raised higher than other local stores.

Great store, great prices. Very friendly and knowledgeable owner. He's very helpful for bouncing ideas off of for getting/building the tank of your dreams! Wish I had more photos to post, but this one will do.

Love this spot. Just started a new tank and this is my go to shop for all my needs. Update: Tanks going great! Starting an aquascape now and just got the things I need. Excited to eventually begin a saltwater and come back. I love their saltwater fish selection. So beautiful.

Great selection of fish, plants and supplies. I was there for aquarium plants. The staff was very knowledgeable in speaking about the different plants.
