The ambulance brought in my mother for chest pain and shortness of breath. The paramedic called the hospital as per protocol for all ambulance services. The hospital did not tell them that they didn't have any rooms available. Instead, when they arrived, the nurse told them they were full and she'd have to sit in the waiting room. The nurse on the phone should have told them to divert to another hospital but instead we had to wait over an hour with a patient that was short of breath, had chest pains, and was light headed. Great job, Southwest. Serving the community well. Update: After watching a number of other people who appeared to have less concerning symptoms go back to a room, a room was finally available after 3 hours in the waiting room. Looking around in the ER, there doesn't seem to be that many rooms occupied. I'm not sure what your protocols are here, SWGH, but it seems like they need to be reviewed.

Dad got admitted to ICU through ER on 1/24/24. Called to ask how he was doing just as they were going to transfer him. ER staff told me “the nurse spoke to your mom already so you can ask her” (I’ll leave that right there for now). Next day called about 7:45AM to see how dad was doing, Laura (3E MICU) said “the nurses don’t take calls until 10:30AM.” Overall, SWGH visiting hrs are 11am - 8pm AND they don’t take calls until 10:30am. So, if you’re a concerned family member with a confused loved one who is a fall risk (due to sepsis and encephalopathy), don’t bother until almost noon, in the meantime you can either “trust” that the hospital staff will do their jobs, or you can wait. No other choice. Not a great experience EVER btw. My wife and I had all 3 of our children here. If you need an epidural, stay clear of Dr Sfeir (anesthesiology), unless you’re into the whole getting spinal tapped and then he leaves the room 5 mins later and your half numb and then he doesn’t come back for 25mins while your wife is in agony, bc he suddenly goes to a diff room, but then gets arrogant and snarky when you confront him on it (in front of ALL the nurses). Just find a different hospital if you can or be forewarned. This is as nicely as I can put it.

Autistic children should not be treated like second-class citizens, but y'all made sure to act annoyed and instead of explaining anything or providing distraction or support- you held him down with five or six people. And then you got annoyed when his mother (me, a nurse) offered to help in anyway possible to calm him down. Fairview has a great program in their ED for children with unique needs. We only came here because the ambulance brought us here after our unconscious son with blue lips was unresponsive. Y'all said it was likely "sensory" related. Just say you don't know how to deal with autistic children and quit claiming to be a five star ED. UPDATE: My son is likely experiencing epilepsy- but Southwest said he had a vasovagal response from being autistic and overstimulated.

Had my mother in your hospital recently. She is undergoing cancer treatment and immunocompromised. It is horrifying that your staff and the patients/visitors have an option to be wearing their masks. This facility should be ashamed with how many people in the waiting room didn’t have masks on and coughing all over the place. When I complained to front desk, no on came out to ask them to put their masks back on. You are not making sure your patients are safe and cared for. Do better!

My mom was on the Critical Care Unit E, and she received the most exceptional care. All the nurses that took care of her were absolutely amazing!!! The Dr's, especially Dr. Berlekamp and Dr. Hickey had exceptional bed side manner. The entire staff on the unit were very caring, compassionate, and attentive to our entire family. Thank you for comforting us in my mom's last days.

I was a patient for almost a month, almost died, and the care I received was over and beyond what I expected! I can only rave about the care I received in CCE AND 2 D.O.M, the nurses and aides were very attentive and kind, they worked around my attitude and always helped me, I just can't Praise them enough

I have only been to South West handful of times, and I went to go get my lab work done and the lady at the desk was not very nice when asking me questions. And I explained to her that this is my first time and I threw away my labs and I’m not sure who my doctor is because I have only seen them once. There is no reason for this women’s rudeness. This hospital is not my first second or third choice of hospital. Please correct this situation and train your employees to have some mindless to those who have never been.

HORRIBLE! This hospital will place anyone in the clinical manager position. Whether you’re a nurse or a tech, they don’t want those with relevant work experience and good people skills. They want hair twirlers, gossipers, and those who rather talk about lunch ideas all day. They’ll be lucky if corporate doesn’t get called, because the patient care is horrible and I see why!

I delivered my first child here and will be delivering my second here in a few weeks. I truly don't understand the bad reviews. The nurses and doctors have all been so friendly, accommodating and wonderful. I also went to the ER in the last few months and again, a great experience.

Dr Biglow is in fact the Best Doctor in our life time. My liver count was off each time and she was determined to find out why! Well with her persistence and ordering different Tests we found out why. My gallbladder was so bad it had infected my lymph node so bad it had to be checked for cancer. Thank goodness it was not but I didn’t even know I was that sick. This Doctor SAVED MY LIFE! She is caring, ask questions and listens, really listens to you. We really and truly LOVE Dr Kimberly Biglow. She is so nice and if she ever needs us, we will be there for her. God Bless and protect this Doctor.

I would like to say that even though hospitals are running short staffed that I accurately had a wonderful experience when I had to return. I was here on the 11th and it did not start out good so I left. I was instructed to come back by a provider to be checked out. My second experience was totally 100% better. The staff were all so nice and understanding. Kudos to everyone who played a roll in my care. I did get transferred out but while I was hear at this facility it was top notch.

Truthfully I would leave a MUCH lower rating but it wouldn't be fair to some of the amazing nurses and doctors at this place. This rating reflects more on the periodic disregard from reception and scheduling. I found it very rude and hurtful to be at one of the specialist labs for an appointment and be right in front of two receptionists and be completely ignored. I understand if you're finishing up a call, but to make eye contact and then just keep ignoring the person and make another call or walk away is very unprofessional. In terms of scheduling, on numerous times I tried calling the campus location to schedule with a specialist, more than half the time I have been directed to the wrong line or just hung up on. Sometimes I even get a voicemail from reception to leave contact information as they may be busy, after leaving numerous messages, not once did anyone call me back.

When I had my first child the staff was very nice to me but my partner on the other hand was treated with such disrespect. they were incredibly rude to him and kept trying to limit his contact with our perfectly healthy baby. Not sure if because we were young parents or if all father's get treated that way

I have to say I don’t like giving a bad review. The nurses in the Er were so kind so 5 stars to them. I couldn’t keep myself from leaving this review because I had a bad experience when I got my CT scan. The girl In There was so incredibly rude to me I just can’t understand how someone could be so heartless. This was yesterday around 4:30-5:00 pm. So maybe she should find something else to do. She is not good with people .

I love this hospital people are nice and helpful but I have one issue security i think there should be security at every entrance like for entrance B OR C people can walk in and out as they please and go just about anywhere in the hospital suppose someone was in there because they were violently attacked and the attacker wanted to harm them more they can walk right in to one of those entrances not being noticed and go back out before would probably have someone at all exists but it will be to late then so let's work on that its a nice hospital let's not let a incident happen like that and make the hospital look cheap or like they didn't care thank you.

If I could give this pathetic excuse of a place for a hospital negative stars I would. This place should have their license revoked permanently and sold to a competent health center. I made the fatal mistake of having the ambulance take my dad to this facility, and that term is used loosely, where he waited 18 hours for a bed, having pneumonia. He also had heart issues which were neglected in a three months previous hospitalization here which exacerbated the pneumonia. He suffered chest pain incident which was put off as indigestion by the staffing and administered a dose of morphine. The negligence was so incompetent the administering physician failed to go to his room in person to check him out. As a result, three hours later he suffered full cardiac arrest and died. Don't let this happen to your loved one. Run to the nearest hospital be that in Medina, St John, or Fairview to give them a fighting chance. RIP to dad. 😢

It’s a shame and unfortunate that some Southwest general staff does not respect certain evs workers, it’s sad and unfortunate some evs workers are not appreciated by the hospital staff nor treated apart of the hospital since evs cleans and sanitizes the entire hospital. And evs staff can never get a thank you! But only be ridiculed and told to not do this and that. Smh unfairness at it finest.

I came in the ambulance after losing 4 pints of blood over the day. It took them 6 hours to see me. They said there were no beds available but when I went back literally all the beds were available. While waiting in the lobby, I passed out and no one seemed to care. There were other people actively throwing up and it seemed like they were severely understaffed. But just going into one of the oven beds would have been amazing with how light headed I was. I resorted to the floor. Only 2 stars because the doctor was awesome and found the problem immediately to my bleeding and got me fixed up right away (when I FINALLY made it out of the lobby after 6 hours) I mean seriously? Even if the beds were all full don’t you think I should have been sent to a different hospital? I came in soaked in blood. Shouldn’t that be a biohazard? I mean cmon. I was never told the wait time either I was told they’d get me right in. Absolutely ridiculous. TLDR came in an ambulance and was too weak to walk and still had to wait 6 hours in the lobby when there were tons of open beds even though they claimed there wasn’t

I had given birth on 04/06/2023 and it was the most positive experience I could've ever imagined. My midwife Susan Krieger was ABSOLUTELY hands down the best and most supportive during my entire pregnancy and made me feel heard and comfortable (this was my first birthing experience) I highly highly recommend her to any woman, she's kind and compassionate. AND empowers you to do whatever kind of labor and delivery you want to do and empowers you all around☺️ I can't wait until I have another one I'll definitely be going back to her☺️

My wife came in by an ambulance for seizures while driving. The doctor came in asked what was going on, explained all the tests they were going to run, then she asked us about our insurance provider. When they didn’t like who it was they told her that there was nothing wrong and sent her home. Checked up on her once while she was there. That one time to ask how she was and then stating the results came back “normal” and she is being discharged. We had to spend $120 just to get printouts of her lab results, which showed her results were not normal and in fact cause for concern. The doctor would not let us ask her a single question before she ran out of the room. This emergency room doesn’t care about the health of the patience just the money . Will be filing a report on them and I suggest any other person who has been neglected do the same. Terrible workers with no ethics. You should all be ashamed of yourselves!

This review IS NOT for the hospital. It’s for the unprofessional neurologist and his staff that will not return a single phone call. 3/4 messages now left and even spoke with the receptionist and was told she would call me back. That was over a weeks ago and still no calls. I’m waiting for next steps in my care and they could care less. I would love to know who I could contact regarding this specific doctor. He is located in the main building.

If you want to sit for hours on end to be told nothing is wrong with you then this is the best hospital for that. 7 hours I spent in ER for absolutely 0 answers & 0 concern for my issue. The medical field is such a joke.

A University hospital, clean, big single rooms, kind helpful staff and nurses who really care. Good visiting hours, parking garage. Only complaint is you are going to get your steps in. Being a large hospital you are walking and walking and walking to get to where you want to be. Except for emergency area that is right up front off Bagley road.

I went into the ER doubled over in pain from kidney stones. After a quick trip down the hall for a CAT scan I was hooked up to a IV and monitors. Then I was forgotten for 3.5 hrs. While putting my clothes on to walk out, the doctor finally returned to confirm that I had a 4mm stone. I was given 3 days meds, Flomax, an antibiotic, anti nausea, and pain killers none worked. I was given 3 days excuse from work. It took 10 days to finally pass the stone. My bill...$7k.

Upon arrival on the floor, my relative soiled themselves and my Niece called a nurse, several times. 40 minutes and no one came to help. My Niece had to take the pt to the restroom, clean them , the bed and the floor up herself. The nurses watched her do this from the nurses station and never offered a helping hand.

I recently was in the emergency room twice. No test for covid. In this day and age? The third time my niece talked me into going. She is a nurse anesthetist, got my vitals. They finally did a covid test, positive and vitals in the basement. The doctor still wanted to send me home, almost 80, live alone. She said no way, I was so weak I couldn't move. You better know what is wrong with you if you go to their ER. Deplorable. My care in the covid floor was great though. White hair? You will get written off by a nurse, Michelle.

Not sure why with electronic records it’s always an issue retrieving lab orders. It’s always a “Have a seat I can’t find them.” And then I’m waiting and waiting. I was here 2 months ago where I gave my new insurance, employer and med list. None of it was updated. How? I sit there and watch the staff type it all in but when I come out my meds have not been updated? That’s horrifying.

If you ever end up here without insurance be sure to mentally prepare yourself for them to destroy your life. My wife ended up with a 6 figure medical bill. No insurance. To sum it up, last year when we applied for financial assistance they said they forgave the entire balance and the account was zeroed. Fast forward to a year later and they slapped her account with the balance again and tried to claim she was denied assistance! Mind you this was after they said over the phone that assistance had been approved a year prior. Pure criminals. She applied for assistance again and every once in a while even though they claim her application is in progress, they mail us a bill thinking they can get anything from us. Too bad we have absolutely nothing we could give them even if we wanted to! Non profit my a**!

This review is long overdue. I used to work at southwest via agency and they were professional, helpful and friendly on any and all my shifts. I also had to go there for a minor health complication, that because of their care, I overcame. Even as a customer I was treated with care and professionalism. I cannot say enough good things about Southwest hospital as an employee or patient. If I could give 10 stars I would.

PLEASE. My mom came in via ambulance at 12 PM with a broken femur. She’s scheduled for surgery tomorrow however she has been waiting to be transferred to a room for much more than four hrs. First is was “no beds” then “no cleaners” then “nursing shortage” then “no transporters working”. Then, emergency room Dr didn’t think to authorize any pain Meds before he went home. Am i just being stupid or is this stuff just unacceptable for a large, professional hospital ?

Living near here I have always loved Southwest but things have changed over the years and our last visit was the icing on the cake. My fiance was walking around with a collapsed lung for over a week. After we figured out what it was we immediately ran to the ER here. We were told he would probably need additional surgery and they no longer had the specialist surgeon needed so after a chest tube was placed he would be transferred to Metro (or another hospital with a specialist). We asked: since nothing has happened yet and he wasnt in immediate danger why we couldnt just go straight to 1 of those hospitals....and we should have! After being talked in to staying everything went downhill. He had to get a chest tube put in. Having multiple collapsed lungs in the past they were told he needed to be fully sedated for the procedure since he knows how and what things have happened in the past. They supposedly gave him 4 doses of versed yet he wasnt even starting to relax. Not like they cared, they started performing a chest tube with him screaming the entire time and extra nurses on hand to hold him down if needed. He wasnt slightly relaxed or calm or out of it and felt nearly everything while the doctor struggled with the entire procedure. They left him to sit in a gown covered in blood and tissue (but after a while nicely covered that part with a bib) for hours. They couldnt get him transferred to another hospital so after 12 hours in the ER they finally got him in to a room upstairs (thankfully) because it took 3 + hours of asking multiple people to get it "approved" to get any kind of pain meds, nurses didnt check in, etc. At the 7 hour mark we asked about getting him food. At first they said no since he "might be transferred but they will ask again" then after 3 more hours was told "the doctor said he can eat whatever"....like ok? Should i get food? Is there food here at 10 p.m. since there isnt even water in the vending machines. So I had to have a friend bring up food for him. The nurses and staff were much better once he was put in a room, he regularly got needed pain meds, they answered questions when possible and helped him get back to moving around and cleaned up from the still bloody and messed up state he was in from the ER. however, He still needs to see a specialist for the possibility of needing a surgery. They gave us the name of some one to check with but told us to "find a specialist". No good information on how to care for his incision, when or how to get stitches removed (terrible stitch job too). We know hospitals have trouble keeping staff, they cant handle the beds, etc. But even calling to talk to them now results in angry attitudes and rude responses.

I had an appointment for an ultrasound, they sent me a message from SWGHC ultrasound and it was to this department that I went, and upon arrival it turned out that my appointment was in the main department, but this was not indicated. To which the employee said yes, you weren’t warned, but we can’t do anything. As a result, 1.5 hours of time and $65 on a taxi back and forth were wasted in vain. I do not recommend a clinic with this approach.
