👍 I would like to start and mention that Queensland Parks have done a great job here with the trails, tracks and camping area. With 3 days at the Starkvale camping area you get a very good look at what’s on offer in this section of the park - Robinson Gorge. Being self sufficient in the park is a must... People often mention view, good, Gorge,

I would like to start and mention that Queensland Parks have done a great job here with the trails, tracks and camping area. With 3 days at the Starkvale camping area you get a very good look at what’s on offer in this section of the park - Robinson Gorge. Being self sufficient in the park is a must as one would expect. There are drop toilets male & female and in good condition. There is plenty of room for camper trailers, but some of the spots will take a bit of manoeuvring into, ours was easy as no one else there on 2 of the days. All hikes are class 4 and the trails good. The Cattle Dip, is a 1.2km return hike from the camp ground and where you can have a cuppa looking out at the view. Shepard’s Peak 3.6km return is a little harder as you need to climb the peak for an awesome view, a great place for lunch. Robinson Gorge Lookout 4km return is another for views of the Gorge below. The Road into the National Park is good but would be challenging in wet weather. We will come back as we are still to hike to the Gorge floor.... next time.

This is a great national park. The camping gound is spread out and shaded with picnic tables and fire pits provided. The road in is recommended 4WD only as it has some steep rocky sections. There are some good walking tracks and spectacular lookouts. The walk down into the gorge is steep and requires some scrambling down steep rocks. Make sure you take note of where you entered the gorge as it is not easy to find on the way out. There is a rock cairn near the bottom of the track down but this can not be seen from the gorge floor. It is easier to walk alnong the top of the bank of the creek on the gorge floor rather than the creek bed itself. This is an isolated park and does not have large amounts of campers so you are likely to have the place to yourself. Some of the walks have unfenced cliff edges and steep rocky sections so supervise any children and be responsible for your own safety.

Great little place to camp up on the creek. Great walk down into gorge & the other two walks. Drive in from the south, last 16 km ok, slow & out on the northern side of 16km very slow creek country, probably not suitable for caravans

Ironbark (Eucalyptus sideroxylon) covered sandstone escarpment and slopes await the visitor to this magnificent view from the picnic spot with a small viewing platform. Amazing view. Well worth a short diversion to take a look.

If you are out this way to see Carnarvon Gorge you should definitely make the effort to stop in for a look at this view. Its a moderate detour off the main road (about 20kms I think) but the view is worth it. Sealed road and then about 300m of unsealed dirt track to the lookout area. No walking needed, you drive right up to the spot. Views are awesome. I was a bit disappointed at Carnarvon Gorge that you can't see much without walking for many kms but this lookout is super easy and well worth seeing

When you don't want to hike a mountain to see the view, do this. It's the Lonesome National Park picnic area, only a couple of hundred metres off the Arcadia Road. I have driven past a few times, going down the range without stopping here: glad I finally did, especially at sunset. No toilets but a picnic area.

One of my favourite places for a day trip. The scenery is breathtaking. Campsites are available nestled into the bottom of the valley.
