One of the coolest archaeological experiences I could imagine! Historians knew there was a site in this area but it wasn't excavated until recently. The method of preservation is brilliant - leave everything intact and then clear plastic over it all as a floor. It is so immersive! Lasers and narrative through this guided tour bring the site to life. This is a must see if you are into Roman history! Gorgeous and well presented.

A very interesting trip underground and back in time! A great way to show how layers of buildings and history have literally cumulated over the centuries. The videos/renderings projected over the surfaces help you understand how you would live as a wealthy Roman. The full explanation of the Trajan Column is also, in itself, worth a visit. A perfect experience. Thank you to the lovely staff!

Fantastic stop, add it to your list! While excavating, they found the remains of a Roman house and some pieces of the complex that used to be around Trajan's column. They turned that into a multimedia show, which includes videos and small light shows to explain the significance of the things that were found. Also has a terrific detailed presentation about Trajan's column, just outside!

Definitely buy tickets in advance, because ~1 week before our trip, the English tours were already sold out. We participated in an Italian tour anyway just to get to see the place, and even without understanding most of the explanations, it was a very enjoyable experience.

a roman domus from 400s AD. these folks loved bathing... underground, you are below the palace [Valentini] standing on see-through acrylic slabs above the archeological site. the flooring is scuffed so you strain [room is dark as well] to see because the whole thing is done in a multi-media fashion. the tour is not a live tour -- you receive a headset according to your language. there is an usher to show your group from room to room. The whole underground site is quite dark and lights illuminate what the audio guide tells about are fleeting... [better look quick!] for the first few rooms, you do have to use your imagination because the light show doesn't wait for anyone. as the rooms go on, there is more impressive mosaic work and the rooms themselves grow impressive... as others have wrote, they rush you through the site with disdain. I liked the video recreations they played although the viewing wasn't real clear against the palace foundation wall.

I've never been to a museum quite like Le Domus. It really stands out in comparison to the other museums and galleries in Rome as this museum utilizes technology to give visuals and explains the historical background of this Roman bath house. No need for imagination when you visit here! The tours last about 90 minutes and tour groups are very small. Book in advance!

This was a rather strange attraction. It wasn't too impressive initially (one star), but rose to 3 stars by the end. It's a very creative underground tour where multimedia and narration brought old stones to life. If this was a normal city, this tour would be amazing, but it's lackluster compared to all of the other attractions in the city.

(Translated by Google) A very clear visit with Piero Angela's explanation, ad hoc lighting on the elements that are discussed from time to time and reconstructions projected on screens or directly on the floor / walls. Very nice also the final movie with the illustration of the various scenes of the Trajan's Column always with the explanation of Piero Angela. (Original) Visita molto chiara con la spiegazione di Piero Angela, illuminazione ad hoc sugli elementi di cui si parla di volta in volta e ricostruzioni proiettate su schermi o direttamente sul pavimento/pareti. This was a great archeological site tour and museum. The tour shows the manner which they used to uncover the artifacts. The 3D video overlayed on the ruins to show what they may have originally looked like was amazing. The ancient mosiac tile floors and huge uncovered columns we're amazing. You are not allowed to take pictures during the tour. The picture I attached is the only picture they allowed you to take at the end of the tour.

Worst underground experience in Rome. Kidnapped for 1hr in the darkness with dull explanations. Such a shame because the site will be great to explore on tour own or with a guide or audioguide

  • 5/5 Giuseppe S. 4 years ago on Google
It was a great experience with the 3d reconstruction to visit these Domus. If you have the right interest go in and discover how a typical Domus was. Thermes, mosaics, old roman streets are waiting for you. Of course also the wonderful Opus Sectile with marbles from the whole empire. At the end you will also see what the Colonna Traiana represents. Very interesting.

A great experience. You go underground in what they used to be Roman houses. It's underground compared to the current street level because during 2000 years the street level raised due to earth that added on and created several layers.

Very interesting ‘experience’. You walk on glass floors above the original Roman house below. There is a recorded audio played as parts of the floor below you light up to reveal the mosaics etc. Audio was much better than the usual Italian dry and academic text book style. Girl showing us where to stand etc was not very engaging or welcoming - appeared to be just going through the motions. Final presentation of the story on Trajans column was excellent. Whole thing finished on a damp squib though when the reveal of the column itself is presented through what’s best described as a tiny black mesh cage that we all shuffled into and out of! Good job you can see the column for free and clearly outside… You’re not allowed to take photos.

Very underrated archeological site that is not usually at the top of people‘s to-do list in Rome, but definitely should be! Especially if you‘re into micro-history, go. They use projection technology to bring to life the excavation of a ancient villa, owned by someone of a higher class roman society. There is also a thorough short-film about Hadrian’s column near the end of the tour. I think many other sites in Rome could use this multimedia approach to bring ruins to life. This was a great experience!

  • 5/5 Pieter van der V. 5 years ago on Google
You are led in small groups on glass floors below the villa that exists now. Through well engineered light effects and multimedia presentations you are shown in detail what was found under this villa. It is almost an adventure though history. At the end of the tour there is an video explaining the pictures on Trajan's Column. It is not a museum, but a surprising walk trough history.

Don't go if you get claustrophobic as much of this is in the dark. Don't go if you get vertigo. Don't go if you have mobility problems as you need to keep up otherwise you miss out. The effects seem more important than the excavations themselves. The final film about Trajan's column was very good.

  • 5/5 Mezz D. 4 years ago on Google
Been a couple of times and it's always very well presented. Not recommended for anyone who isn't happy looking through a glass floor at exhibits, but the lighting and special effects brilliantly bridge the gap between ruins and real life. Recommended for anyone interested in Roman history and archeology.
