Staying in the town itself is nothing. Start your climb up to the remains of the 13th-century Moorish castle and you will experience the magic of this place. Amazing views of the Zahara el Gastor reservoir and its turquoise waters. All these valleys and mountains around and the town below. The wind gently chills on a hot day and the silence all around. Fantastic place!

This is a must to visit. But be prepared with good walking shoes. The slopes are quite steep, but the tower is well worth the climb. Visit the small modern building on the side of the fortress for some good archeological information. The glass floors will give the children something to talk about. Views are outstanding, and you can see the junction of the three provinces from here. There is only one entry and exit point. So don't look for another. There is an entry fee of 3.5 euros per adults and children are free.

Energetic walk up to the main castle, well worth it for the views. Our 7 year old was fine but wouldn't recommend it for under 4's especially in the summer heat.

For me, it was a challenge to climb up to the fortress. Rugged and steep! Along with incredible outlook, my heart was still filled with joy. Turquoise lake is a shining beauty, just like a soft gem lays comfortably surrounded by rough stones. A real Nature contrast!

Peaceful Moorish White City frontier fort settlement with castle keep. Ideal place to stop off, grab a coffee and take in the view of the reservoir and mountains

Nestled amidst the picturesque Andalusian landscape, Zahara de la Sierra stands as a testament to its Moorish heritage. This charming white village, once a frontier fort settlement, boasts a captivating castle that offers breathtaking panoramic views. While the climb to the castle is a manageable walk, those seeking convenience can opt to drive and park nearby. The ascent is well worth the effort, as the castle's summit unveils a mesmerizing panorama of the surrounding countryside. From this vantage point, one can admire the village's quaint whitewashed houses, the meandering river snaking through the valley, and the verdant hills stretching into the horizon. The interplay of light and shadow, the interplay of textures and colors, creates a scene of breathtaking beauty, leaving visitors in awe of Zahara de la Sierra's natural splendor.

3:50€ entrance fee to the castle. Steep walk up but well worth the view from the top. I wish the museum had descriptions of the artifact in English too.

Amazing scenery from the top of the tower. This is a spot full of history and open for further research. You get to visit the homage tower, which is very well conserved. There's plenty of bits of information about the different epochs of the old, disappeared medieval city, and a small interpretation center at the rediscovered ruins of a church. Great experience that requires a lot of slope climbing, so be prepared! The stone pathways are a bit slippery too and there aren't too many handrails, so take care and enjoy one of the most amazing views and historic places in the area.

Breathing! Such a picturesque view when you walk up to the tower. To be inside a building that was erected ~500 years before you is a unique experience. Must visit!

Amazing city, incredible view, and the ticket (3.5 €) for entering the area with the old castle is very much worth it!

A very picturesque White Village, in a commanding position on top of a hill. The views are breathtaking. It was a Moorish castle ,and part of the structure survives Our guide told us there are only 700 residents, and they haven't embraced tourism....no public loos! It is well off the beaten track.

The town is interesting. It is very uphill. That is what makes the town interesting in the pictures. The town is worth visiting on your way to other towns, such as Olvera or Setenil. The castle itself is problematic. It is located much higher than the town, so you will have to walk uphill for 20 minutes just to find a ruined little squared structure with nothing special about it. I left my car at the bottom of the town. I don't recommend trying to enter the tiny streets of the town with a car. You might get stuck and your car scratched.

A beautiful castle in a tiny village at the skirts of an absolutely stunning Grazalema parque. The entrace fee is 3.5 euros and allows you access to the castle and the movie screening educational center. It's a short climb to the tower itself and you can fo a circular trail, climbing from one side and going down from another, whichever side you chose to go first.
