Shifty

My
Business
partner
and
I
had
checked
in
to
this
establishment
with
high
expectations
as
we
were
waiting
for
a
prospective
client
to
have
dinner.
It
all
started
at
the
barrier
where
the
security
team
were
hardly
smiling,
and
subliminally
hostile,
forcing
me
to
park
my
car
up
the
hill
yet
there
was
plenty
parking
right
at
the
gate.
After
another
patron
protested,
they
finally
bowed.
So
while
we
waited
we
decided
to
check
into
the
bar
area
where
we
found
patrons,
but
no
one
manning
the
bar.
We
waited
for
about
15
minutes
until
Anthony
showed
up
from
the
back,
face
glued
to
the
screen
of
his
phone.
Already
gutted
by
what
had
happened
at
the
car
park,
we
had
hoped
it
would
be
redeemed
at
the
restaurant.
But
wow.
Moving
along,
we
ordered
2
cappuccinos,
that
took
another
lifetime
to
produce,
seeing
as
the
cutlery
was
all
the
way
in
another
building.(mise
en
place
clearly
doesn't
exist
here)
While
we
waited,
other
patrons
came
and
were
tended
to
promptly,
probably
because
of
their
origin,
but
we're
not
getting
into
that
conversation
today.
As
a
seasoned
hotelier
myself,
I
thought
that
was
the
kicker
but
this
gets
even
more
interesting
for
such
an
establishment.
After
finishing
the
Hot
beverage,
we
just
decided
to
shift
to
another
place
for
dinner
since
we
didn't
feel
welcome
at
all.
Remember
when
I
said
things
were
getting
interesting?
The
climax
to
this
whole
facade
of
hospitality
was
when
we
asked
for
the
bill.
Anthony
audibly
gave
us
the
total
to
pay,
no
printed
receipt
or
such...
On
top
of
which
when
we
wanted
to
pay
via
Mpesa
he
gave
us
his
own
phone
number
to
send
the
money.
If
I
may
ask,
do
you
guys
have
a
paybill?
till
number?
Oh,
I
have
the
transaction
messages
and
receipt
to
prove
it.
So
we
sent
the
money,
he
printed
us
a
receipt
all
the
way
at
the
front
desk
(Why
not
use
the
POS
right
there?)
and
we
decided
that
was
that.
If
there
ever
was
a
level
of
nonchalance
displayed
anywhere,
this
was
it.
SOP's
(Standard
Operating
procedures)
or
lack
thereof,
were
thrown
out
of
the
window.
Frankly,
I
wouldn't
recommend
to
locals,
and
the
two
stars
are
for
the
ambience
and
the
cappuccino.
