Nice and well maintained. Interesting archeology and history but takes about 5 minutes to look around. Wheelchair ramp available but the paths inside the castle are gravel so might be difficult. Beautiful park and lake outside the castle. Playground also on site.

Had a great wee visit here to the ruins especially now they have opened up the stairs and viewing platform. The children certainly let their imaginations run wild here!

I loved everything there. The castle is amazing, the entrance is free, you can see every bit of it. It is worth the visit.

I think is the largest ruined castle in Connacht. The history is not too reliable claiming that all sorts and sundries built it. A lot of the extant ruins are 16th century. Nevertheless, there are claims that it was built by the O'Connors in the 12th century and, like most sites in Ireland, the stories are more important than the forgotten facts. Entry is free, there is parking and there is an interesting park with a duck pond in front of the ruin.

Nice place to have a walk. Very well maintained heritage site. The stairs in the castle are locked for safety issues. Also have a nice central area where kids can play around.

Every time I visit Roscommon I always check out the castle. One the the best public accessible castles I've seen in Ireland.

Castle is located in a lovely park within walking distance from the town; it is 300 meters from Main Square, with a playground for kids and charming walk paths around the park. There is a small lake with some fish and ducks. No tickets; it is a public space with free entry from 0-24

Impressive castle ruin. Small free parking lot on site of a park. The grounds were free to walk through and even had some sheep in the back. Some informational signs, but the towers and building were closed for repairs at the time of writing. Happy to see the repair teams on site, the work so far looked well done. Worth the quick stop if you are in the area.

Historical ruins. Lovely place to visit and try and imagine what it was like in its day. There is parking but no toilets. Well worth visiting as there is also a nearby park to stroll about.

It’s a good picnic place with kids and walking trails. One draw back is there are no toilets, it would be difficult for outsiders

Historical site set in acres of park land with a play area for kids. A volunteer guide gave us some really interesting facts about the castle. Dogs on leads are welcome!!

Lovely little pond to walk around with your dog and lots of poop bins around the footpaths to clean up after them too. Would be lovely if there was more information about the castle history or maybe events etc? Possibly a coffee shop/tea room on the grounds?

πŸ‘πŸ‘ At this place one acutely feels the Holy Spirit! Lovely architecture and surrounding landscaping. Sorry about the dark photo but this was taken in February, which means that in Γ‰ire nightfall happens around, like, 3pm.
