Tonight we all came to the restaurant to celebrate my daughters birthday. All 10 of us. First of all our servers were lovely friendly girls and although the service was a little slow they did the best they could to serve all of us. But the food wasn't good. Overpriced and very ordinary. My chicken was certainly not a full breast and served with an abundance of rocket, one tomato, two mushrooms and chips. Dry and no flavour. The cheese and on ion pies weren't good at all. In fact my grandson received his meal after the rest of us were finished eating. Granted we didn't have to pay for his meal after complaining. We didn't really do enough complaining at the time. It was my daughters birthday so we didn't want to spoil it for her. No one in our party was satisfied with the quality ,taste or preparation of any of the food and the reason I give it three stars was the location of the restaurant and the friendly staff. We go out quite a lot for meals and know when food is good and value for money. In our options this was not. Unfortunately we won't be returning.

Came tonight for a family meal and will definitely be back! The staff were friendly and welcoming. Our main server (didnt catch his name) was attentive and provided an excellent service. The food was delicious and there was plenty of choice on the menu for everyone. An altogether lovely evening! Would highly recommend.

We stayed here for just one night before a family wedding in the area and loved it. The room was stylishly decorated with a lovely, big bathroom. Many extra amenities in the room. The staff were very helpful (we had extra people at breakfast and they were so accommodating.) The breakfast was delicious and served in a really attractive bar/ dining room area.

This establishment has a very good reputation for high quality food. We visited for lunch and found the setting charming and the service excellent. The food was of exceptionally high quality. The starters were unique blending high quality products producing amazing flavours and textures. The main courses were even more enjoyable. If you're looking for a pleasant friendly experience at good prices, there are not many pubs that can better this.

What a place! The second we walked in we were greeted with the warmest welcome. With a dog and a baby in our party the team has thought about the area we were dining, which was most suitable for us and had left some little doggy treats on our table which was a lovely little touch. The atmosphere and interior of the pub was lovely and there was a great selection of beers and ciders on tap. The food was spot on. Absolutely delicious and the staff were all fantastic. We're only 20 minutes away but wish we were closer so that this could be our local!

Friends of my parents ran this pub 1975 to 1977 and we used to cross the Pennines and visit. I was only 6 to 8 years old but have vivid memories of these visits. So it was lovely to visit 47 years after my last visit. Back then, the pub overlooked a field and the new motorway which wasn't yet completed. The pub is totally different to how I remember it with the bar on the other side and the old games room with its dartboard long gone! It's beautifully done out. Outside there's a bar begging for warm summer evenings and there's even a teepee!! The staff were welcoming and my pint hit the spot. An enjoyable visit.

Visited here after a long walk and the staff were brilliant. They said full but then asked the chef if they could fit us two in and they did. The sunday roast was amazing plus the cauliflower cheese extra. Dessert was also lovely. We had our dog and the pub is very dog friendly Would recommend and will visit again

This establishment was recommended to us, so we booked our post hike meal here for our trio. The steak burger, steak and ale pie, and fish & chips were all yummy. Complimented with excellent service from the staff 👏 We'll definitely be coming here again 🙂

My husband & I had a lovely meal with great customer service from all the staff last night. Just fancied a meal to finish off the week & they managed to squeeze us in at 8.15. The food really is good & all the staff are so friendly & helpful esp Jacob behind the bar & the gentleman who took our bkg then looked after us all evening, unfortunately I don't know his name. Thank you!

Just went for food, which was lovely. Staff were friendly, service was a bit slow, but they were quite busy. Would definitely recommend

It's OK, I definitely didn't experience the hype behind it. Very average food, no complaints but nothing spectacular! Doesn't help being seated under the specials menu either having everyone coming over looking over you and taking pictures 😂 Staff were sound though. Maybe annex that table 😂

Visited the beer garden yesterday for a few drinks and the best pizza I have had in as long as I can remember! Staff are lovely and prices are reasonable. Plenty of seats and place to shelter if desired. Definitely worth a visit!

Attended a friend's wedding in the garden. It was utterly wonderful. The vegan options on the grazing board were delicious. The outdoor pizza oven and chef churned out a cracking vegan pizza, including violife cheese! The staff are all adorable, friendly, and attentive. I popped up to the bar for a much needed cuppa, and the bar staff were all chatty and couldn't do enough for you. Also had plant milks. Bonus. The garden area is a wonderful space, scenic view looking over to Holcombe Hill, plenty of comfortable seating, and the decor in the tent was so pretty. Perfect for an intimate, relaxed wedding party. I loved it, and everyone else looked like they did too.

A lovely evening meal bought as an anniversary "present" for my wife and I from our daughter. Excellent food, catering for those with a big appetite and those a little more restrained! Excellent service. The only complaint I could have is that the noise level was a bit higher than I would like (at my age) but not surpring on a Friday evening. The number of diners and drinkers is indicative of the popularity of the Eagle & Child.

Had and absolutely faultless stay at the eagle this weekend. Spotless rooms and the food is some of the best you will eat. Would highly recommend to anyone. Great location , staff and all round experience 10/10

Had Sunday lunch here with my wife and can quite honestly say if was an excellent experience. The food was the best I have had in many years along with superb service and table location which had a view over to Peel Tower. I found the young lady who welcomed us to be extremely professional and had a perfect mannar. I have dined at many fine restaurants in this world and can say the Sunday lunch we had consisting of the beef roast was as good as it gets. I can only comment on the restaurant. Well done to you. Went again 3 weeks later and totally different, slow service and the Sunday roast was poor, very dry Yorkshire pudding and fatty beef. this may have been an off week but it was poor.

Great location, good food, service and well stocked bar. The room we stayed was a few points to have been excellent if the bath was working properly and didn't have bits of black mould around the edges. The breakfast in bed was great idea.

Great selection of good food sourced locally. Staff very knowledgeable about their produce. Great service and helpful staff. Excellent views from the dining room over the Irwell Valley. In good weather an excellent garden and outside seating with a teepee. There are rooms but I've not used.

We had a lovely stay here for one night. Pleasantly surprised by the complimentary drinks and snacks, and they went the extra mile to provide vegan food in the breakfast hamper with barely any notice. The room was clean, stylish, and the shower had great water pressure! Friendly and helpful staff too.

Troy was a lovely young man who couldn't do enough for us. The room was lovely and well equipped. The food in the restaurant was superb and the breakfast basket offered a variety of choice. Thank you for a lovely stay Gill Burnett-Faulkner

I went for a meal here with my daughter and granddaughter. A child's 2 course meal is £8:95 but my Granddaughter only had garlic bread which was classed as a starter and 1 blob of ice-cream and was charged £8:95. I had Sunday lunch which was lovely but rather expensive. My daughter had cheese and onion pie, veg and chips which was OK. We couldn't park on the car park so had to park on a nearby street. The staff were friendly but the service was slow and it took us a while to get someone's attention so we could order a second drink.

Had dinner in the restaurant and the food was amazing! Definitely worth the price point, in my opinion. The staff were lovely too. Would definitely come again. I wouldn't recommend it for larger groups as there were roughly 10 of us and we were split up into 3 tables in one of the rooms. The staff said that due to health and safety reasons, we couldn't move the tables.

Lovely staff. Maybe over trained and squeezed into subservience: It’s a pub not a grand hotel in Mayfair, so friendly and welcoming would be perfectly adequate and in keeping with the environment. So staff lovely if a bit scared. Food was a bit of a problem. It was a Sunday roast. You just can’t serve hard in the middle roast potatoes which some friends had. I went for an Asian style salad. It was unpleasant. Others enjoyed their meals. So it was hit and miss. But at this price point it should be mainly bullseye.

I visited with friends to celebrate my sister's birthday. It was a lovely Saturday evening and the restaurant was very busy. Although we did have a couple of issues with our meals and drinks the staff, particularly Troy, dealt with the issues very quickly and apologised to us all for the shortcomings. He realised that it was a birthday celebration and wanted to ensure that we all had a great night and experience at the eagle and child. We all had a enjoyable evening despite the problem and the way they dealt with it proves to me that they care about their customers, which goes a long way in my book. We will definitely return.

Stayed for one night over the Bank Holiday weekend. Loved the room and the facilities, the breakfast hamper and the accompanying items in the room mini fridge. Softest, whitest towels I've seen for ages

We were warned about a 45-minute wait, which we accepted. Unfortunately, it took a 1 hour and 45 minutes for our order to arrive. The staff were apologetic but unable to improve the situation. The oven seemed underheated, resulting in pizzas taking around 10 minutes to cook instead of the usual 90 seconds to 2 minutes. Although the pizzas were tasty, the extended wait was a major downside and only four out of five were the correct orders we had placed. Disappointing.

I like this place, it’s my local, and I don’t like leaving bad reviews, so I’ll rate as 4 stars as on the whole it’s usually decent. Today however was a joke. Took my daughter and her friends in after her birthday party and spent £100+ on pizza. Both orders were totally messed up and the second part was delivered after 1.5 hours. It was unenjoyable. I asked for a refund and was told I’ll see what I can do… then ignored. A mate of mine was in there and his order was also completely messed up also, yet he was refunded. I like the pub, but next time we want to go for pizza we’ll be giving somewhere else a try.

Probably 4 years since we last ate here and I was looking forward to a return but sadly my high hopes weren't met. Car parking as before very tight spaces. Initial greeting was good and thanks to the gent serving our party you were great, attentive but not over fussy. On a Monday lunchtime it was less than half full but it look a long, long time before our order was taken and given the amount of time we then waited for the food I was expecting much better. The small fish and chips was all batter and no fish, the large fish was better in amount but average quality at best and just plain bland. I tasted the burger from one of the other members of our group who had left it to one side and I'm glad it was not my meal choice - again just a lack of quality. Given that we decided to skip dessert. Disappointing overall and way off the quality it used to be.

Such an amazing place to have on our doorstep! It's basically three great pubs in one. If you want a traditional pub with great beers and proper pub grub (I had an excellent homemade chicken & ham hock pie), you've got it. If you want something a bit more special, they've got a really beautiful restaurant (my father-in-law had the rack of lamb, perfectly cooked with a really delicious and unusual lamb ragu). If you want a proper sun trap, the beer garden is fantastic and the pizzas from the wood-fired oven are hard to resist (I've tried and failed several times). The staff are lovely and really welcoming. Feel very lucky to have it within walking distance - it's worth a trip for!

Just had a fantastic evening meal. The food was delicious and the service excellent. I also found a great pint of IPA (thwaites). I would highly recommend a visit.
