The food is great, it's larger portions of dim sum then you get in the western suburbs at MingHin in Naperville. (My go to dim sum in suburbs). The prices are better as well. I just don't like the hour drive into the city to get dim sum. But the food is worth it. We went to Phoenix dim sum on Archer. As I said the food is great. The service is not so great and the cleanliness is really awful. The chair covers are filthy. The bathrooms are filthy, The dish stations are filthy. The waiters ignored us and didn't check back after we got our order. They said if you pay cash you get 20% off your food bill during lunch. We gave cash and only got 13,% off. So we took the difference off the tip. In the future I will try some of the newer restaurants across the street as they are not the only dim sum restaurant in Chinatown. I just hope I don't get sick because the restaurant was filthy.

Do not recommend. At all. Btw googles description is wrong - no more cart service. Food is mediocre ( mochi and shumai somewhat ok but still rubbery), terribly overpriced for the low quality and service is rude - we had an older gentleman helping us and he was outright hostile as my 13 yo son and I were asking questions about the food. They ignore you until it’s time to pay the check. Order was put in wrong, so anything you need including order changes you have to go to front desk. Lady seated next to us had a Chinese movie in her phone blasting full volume, and everybody was fine with it. This may be a Chicago institution but it has definitely seen better days. Disappointed.

7/17/2023 Still classic HK tea house vibe and flavors. The only decent dim sum place left for us 😂 2022 We returned after a 9 years hiatus. It still tastes like it should! I was delighted to find the Lotus Leave Sticky Rice with chicken without pork or shrimp 😂 while the rest of the ladies complained it is not authentic without them. Nonetheless, they hit all the right spots for dim sum reminiscent of childhood. So for the nostalgia of seeing the square from the floor to ceiling picture window, for the authentic Cantonese flavors, the great chrysanthemum tea, the witty waiter and attentive service, a 5 star is warranted to keep the legacy of this place going in Chicago Chinatown. Besides, they updated their menu to be quite veg. friendly. So no excuse 😆 go find something yum!

Ordered takeout 5/17/22 and found a whole cockroach tucked inside the dim sum dish. We felt that we had to throw the entire order out due to not knowing the cleanliness of the rest of the dishes prepared. Will never order from this place again.

I make the trip here about once every month or two when I come to Chinatown. Consistency is near perfect, great dim sum, and friendly, fast service. We go with groups of different sizes, and always order quite a bit of dim sum! We've enjoyed almost everything we've tried, but the standouts are the Xiao long bao, BBQ pork crepes are the best in the area, and you can't go wrong with fried shrimp rolls. And use copious amounts of the hot chili oil, of course! Unfortunately, the days of feasting on dim sum and receiving a laughably small bill are over...the dishes haven't shrunk, but the prices have gone up over the past few years. I'm not marking them down for that: it's the same at every dim sum place I've been to. Just a sign of the times, I guess.

We recently had the pleasure of revisiting this dim sum restaurant, and it instantly transported us back to the days when it was our absolute favorite. The nostalgic flavors and the warm presence of the familiar staff created a truly memorable dining experience. During our visit, we were treated to a variety of outstanding dishes, but the real stars were the fun rolls. To dim sum enthusiasts, a plate of tender fun rolls filled with beef or tofu sets the golden standard for a quality establishment, and this restaurant certainly exceeded expectations. The flavors were well-balanced, and the texture was just perfect. Another standout dish that delighted our taste buds was the beef offal. Its bold and savory profile made it an instant favorite at our table. However, we were a bit disappointed to find that our beloved dish, the fresh squid in shrimp paste, was no longer available. It was a dish we always looked forward to, and its absence was felt. Despite this minor setback, we are eagerly anticipating our next visit to explore more of their delectable offerings. We are confident that the restaurant's exceptional dishes and the warm hospitality of the staff will continue to make it a favorite spot for dim sum enthusiasts like us.

Delicious and fresh dim sum 🥟. Best ever! The shrimp rolls were delectable. Good service. Only negative, silverware was dirty and had to return for clean ones. But also was able to mostly use the chopsticks.

I can’t get enough of the delicious dim sum at this place, especially the rice roll wrapped in bean curd. Te service is always welcoming. Looking forward to my next visit!

I came for lunch on a Sunday with 9 friends to celebrate Chinese New Year. The restaurant was packed when we arrived and were seated without too much of a wait. We received a paper menu with images on it to mark our order. The servers were quick to come over and get our drinks. Food was very reminiscent of my time living in China and I found many of my favorites on the menu. Overall, it was of the quality I expected and was an authentic meal that I previously had in China, not our Americanized Chinese food. It was my first time in Chinatown and I was generally pleased with our dining experience. For ~$30 per person, we were able to have a huge meal that left us all stuffed.

An authentic dim sum experience! I was thankful to go with a friend who speaks Chinese so she could help us…otherwise I might have been a bit confused but I actually liked that. It felt like we were transported into China for the hour! Fast service. Variety of interesting foods on menu. Certainly fun to go with a group of adventurous eaters. We Ioved the bbq pork buns…”It’s like a donut with meat inside”🤣- 8 year old with us The pot stickers were big and packed with flavor. Dumplings were all good but not incredible. Make sure and ask for extra chili oil and soy sauce. I would return for a fun experience and interesting food at a reasonable price!

We went on Friday at 10:00. The food overall was good for the price, but there was no cart service. The taro dumplings were not as fluffy as I expected, and I was told by someone later on that their food is not made scratch in the restaurant, but brought in frozen.

Excellent traditional dim sum like the old country. All the classics are quite good - anything shrimp, anything taro, chicken feet, steamed short ribs, egg tarts made the old fashion melt-in-your-mouth way They also had English/Mandarin speakers (this was a Saturday) so don't be a shy! Bonus: they have pretty great views of the main plaza area

Located on the street directly across the main Chinatown square, Phoenix is a popular spot— expect a wait especially for weekend dimsum, which is what my friends and I came for. The interior is large, spacious, and decorated simply. Our orders came out pretty fast and the servers were kind. They were attentive in refilling our tea kettles, but never refilled our waters unfortunately. I felt that while all the dimsum dishes were good, the menu selection was a little limited in terms of meats and vegetables, compared to other dim sum places I’ve tried in the area. There didn’t seem to be as many meat options and there were basically no vegetable options besides a stuffed eggplant dish, which wasn’t that good in my opinion. Despite that, they made all the other dishes really well—from custard buns to egg tarts (and taro egg tarts) to shumai to crepes. Everything tasted super fresh. We ordered a lot of things (most of them are pictured), but a couple of the standout ones were: - Taro Egg Tarts: delicious and unique; I’ve never seen this offered at any other dimsum spot I’ve been to and I lowkey liked it even more than the traditional egg tart. -Steamed Malay Sponge Cake: this is also a pretty unique menu item that I don’t commonly see at other dimsum spots, and it was really good, spongey, and flavorful! - Chicken Feet with Homemade Sauce: A dimsum staple, the homemade sauce addition was really good. - Short ribs with pepper: Tasty and well marinated, nicely textured meat. - Beef crepes: I normally don’t love crepes, but the beef crepes here were really good in my opinon. It was also a bit more expensive than the other dimsum spots in Chinatown that we’ve been to—for our group of 10, it came out to $27 per person, which is a bit hefty.

Really enjoyed dim sum here. It has all the standard selections you would expect and everything was delicious. Service was super prompt and they never let your tea pot go lower than halfway. Recommend going here early when they open to avoid crowds.

All the food we had was excellent. The shrimp dumplings were really shrimp and the bean curd rolls were surprisingly flavourful. The scallion pancakes were super soft. They forgot one of our items and the beers came warm, but they are helpful and we enjoyed our food.

Dim Sum is in good quality. You can tell the Dim Sums are homemade and not supplied by Food distributor kitchen. I knew it because the Steamed Cha Siu Bao is using the correct bun doug (Which is cracked open and you can see the Cha Siu inside the bun) We visited on New year Day, and waited 30 mins for a table which is not bad considering it is the busiest time of the year. Staffs are very friendly and fast. Their menu price on list is up-to-day so no surprise when you get the bill. Some other Dim Sum restaurants I visited before were posting a price which is 3 years ago. If I can make one suggestion, it would be adding a small speaker (Or a number display) in the Elevator lobby where people are waiting to be called because the hostess voice is too small and it is very noisy in the area. You cannot hear the hostess through the glass door when she call your number. For sure people don't want to miss their number after a long waiting.

My brother and I got to Phoenix Restaurant soon after it opened. Our big worry, in getting there so early, was we would get yesterday's leftovers but everything we ordered were made fresh. We were surprised how good the dim sum tasted - we were visiting from Cleveland and the dim sum there isn't so great. And everyone, who has visited Chicago, said the dim sum in Chicago isn't any better. We really liked the Sui Mai, steamed pork bun, egg tarts, beef tripe, and beef short ribs. The ha gao's rice crepe covering was way too thick. And the steam spare ribs with black bean sauce tasted good, when I found pieces that weren't too pink - as we were traveling, I did not want to risk getting food poisoning from undercooked pork. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant to friends and family visiting Chicago.

2023 - Service was poor, infact rude at times by this one lady server. Maybe they don't like tourist. Food quality / profile wasnt the same as what I grew up eating but supposed to be one of the better dimsum houses which was recommended by a local here.

Easy to order off the menu with pictures for each dish. They have all the classics and everything was great. Great introduction to dim sum if you haven't tried.

Delicious dim sum and great service! We appreciate the manager who chased after us to return our bag when we left it behind. Can’t recommend this place enough!
