really lovely place for all things books!! they have every subject imaginable, new and used books. There are so many cool book related art pieces around, and actual art galleries on the second floor! The bottom floor is more traditional bookstore with the layout and types of books (with a movie and music section as well), but the 2nd floor is definitely my favorite, it has a very cozy feel with the unique layout and of course the famous book tunnel. There are places to sit and read too! A book-lovers paradise!

Such a cool bookstore. The main space is huge and easy to navigate. The upstairs is designed to be the opposite, with a labyrinth of crazy shelves and book-themed art to confuse you into finding something new. Add in art galleries and lots of sitting spots and you've got one of the coolest bookstores I've ever been to. Definitely worth stopping to check out!

As an artist you wanna paint in space you feel zen . Zen to every artist is different. This is my first collaboration 🖤we as individuals are artists . Together as a couple it is the most beautiful goal to accomplish of creating art together. To me I felt the book store was going to be the solution and it was until we went to paint at LA library because the book store we couldn’t find parking the second time . The first time we went we said let’s come back here to paint . So excited and looking forward then circling around couldn’t find parking on a different occasion so we went to paint at the nearby library and the art book level was where we belonged ❤️

Pro Tip : Go to the 2nd floor once you enter because that's the fun part. Also, it closes half an hour before the full closure. So, if you are arriving in the evening, you don't wanna miss it. Overall, an amazing place for book lovers. Loved the book tunnel and book hole. Don't forget to take someone with you to take good pictures 😂. They also have DVDs if you are interested in that collection. The second floor also has a separate section where a person sells cute badges and hand painted collages. PS : Check out my photos for some cute things that you may encounter.

This place is the dream of all the bookworms. I really enjoyed walking around the store and library. It's a unique must visit place. It is an extremely big store with artistic decor. The second floor closes at 7.30 so make sure you visit at first. I'm really happy with my visit  and experience.

This place is probably the best part of downtown LA! We make a pilgrimage here every year when we come to town from the east coast, and it only gets better each visit. Of course, there are books galore, but the artists loft upstairs is what always keeps my eyes busy for hours upon hours. Now, if we just had a coffee bar.........

A unique and interesting bookstore. It's amazing how you can take something trivial and turn it into a magical experience. The prices of the books are not cheap at all $23 for a children's book with 4 pages.. and there is also great difficulty in finding parking in the area.

More like a tourist attraction than a regular bookstore, but that’s one of their charms. It might be somewhat distracting if you’re really there to read & buy books, but def worth visiting as a stop in LA, with Grand Central station, Angles Flight Railway and Little Tokyo nearby, tho, all about 15-20min.s walking distance in downtown LA. Been in & out of LA a few times over the last 15 years, downtown went through a few phases, was upward and trendy pre pandemic but now feel like it’s going downhill again with touristy traps and pee covered streets, extremely difficult to find street parking, so be prepared for it if you’re planning on driving over.

This place was amazing right in the heart of downtown. The pure ambiance and feel of this spot is like another world. A real gem of LA of a long lost time. Even if your not interested in buying a book just walking through is full of magic. But this still is a must see for all book lover and travelers to Socal. I hope this place is around for a very long time to come!

Love this quaint bookstore full of both new and old books as well as comics, LPs, and DVDs.So much to see and there are two floors in total to explore. The wavelike books are on the second floor near the horror and fantasy books. There are also independent shops on the 2nd floor to check out. Going into bank vaults, a scary room dedicated to the horror genre, and really random old pieces of equipment, you can see the charm of The Last Bookstore.

What a marvellous experience. New and used books and much, much more..So many small artistic studios wrapped around the book store. Enriched in plentiful amusing creations and secret corners all with a unique theme/feeling. Staff were very helpful and nice to chat with. I wished I had my children with me as my son would probably ask to sleep over. If you want to get lost in this place eaten by books come here; it is the spot!🧡

This book store has an amazing collection of books. Theme decorated throughout. There's also art displayed from different artists, a gift shop store with vintage items, fun art and gift souvenirs. The layout helps visitors take beautiful pictures. Unique design. There's many areas to sit and enjoy a book. I noticed that there's options to buy, sell, or trade books. I loved this unique store.

This is probably my favorite place in all of LA. I came here on a visit from Atlanta & didn’t want to come out of the store. There’s so much variety & the setup of all of the books is soooo cool! They also have shops on the top floor that support local artists & their merchandise is AMAZING. I couldn’t believe how many books I walked out of the store with. Such a great experience & definitely plan to visit again.

Classic downtown LA landmark. Books and books and more books everywhere. Upstairs they have the cool "photo spots" and book vaults. You can even find books for $1. Only bad thing about this spot is there is no public restrooms. Understandable tho. Nonetheless this is a free spot and we found free parking.

Wow, here is not just a simple bookstore! Iconic landmark of downtown LA and core of artistry. The bookstore is full of amazing book collections. And never miss the second floor with artist workrooms. Every corner is fantastic!

I love everything about this place. Absolutely everything. The entire bookstore is a non-stop, artistic and euphoric adventure! I got lost here for a couple hours just simply sorting through their vast selection of books, graphic novels, records and more. Do yourself a favor and add this to your map if you're visiting the area! Please and thank you. ❤🙌❤ *Pics are mainly from 1/2015. Only three of them are from 12/2012. Enjoy, friends!

Fantastic book shop! Basically a maze of books. Everything you can think of. Give the place some time! You'll need it to wander around and see all the magic. Great comic book selection: but look upstairs. The comic selection on the first floor is eh, but upstairs there is a whole room! Same goes for horror. Mountains of fantasy and scifi books.

Traditional and glorious. This is a very rare piece of the past and tradition in the modern, cell phone jungle. It is so nice to see how peaceful the life used to be before internet. People came to this gorgeous building and read a book, then bought a book. This historical, huge building is located in the historical area of downtown Los Angeles. Parking is usually around the block and costs about 15 dollars. The book store is located on the first floor of this huge, old building. When I walked into this building, I felt like that it was telling me a story of old glory. The high ceiling and huge columns in this book store, looked so magnificent and glorious. There were many unique rooms, stairway, heavy medal doors, brought me back to 1930's, as if I was in an old Hollywood movie. The feeling was just so unique and wonderful! There were many books to chose from, and they were laying on the wood, antique book shelves, waiting for you to bring them down.

The store is amazing and smells history and legacy. Lots of vinyls and you can find some rare items. Books in the special collection behind the glass are rare and precious too. Staff is friendly and inside is very spacious.

A random discovery while we were looking for places to go to in downtown LA. Well-curated collection of new and old books. Be patient enough to walk till the last row on the top floor, which has books for one dollar each. Also checkout the special sections for various topics from horror to music. A great collection of photography books too. Also worth a visit to savour the shop's interior design and arrangement of books

A wonderful bookstore, that is surprisingly large! There are different rooms, and nooks and crannies to be explored here. You could easily spend an entire day wondering about the different aisles and sections. They have music records, rare books, and many aisles filled with books. If you love bookstores, this place is for you : )

Just as awesome as I hoped! I could have stayed here all day, but the vacation must conclude today, so back to Phoenix we head. So many cool places inside one bookstore. Stores with the artists in them! Easily found my horror section and took home a souvenir! Can't wait to come back out and spend some quality time here!

I spent a few hours here and still don't think I saw everything. It is a bibliophile's dream. There was a line for opening at 11am on a Saturday but I barely saw anyone once I was inside. The record section was a pleasant surprise as well. I can't wait to go back and explore more.

What a gem of a bookstore! I could've spent hours and hours in there exploring and discovering books (and I left with a handful I hadn't ever heard of before). It feels part museum, part bookstore, part maze! The only suggestion I have for improvement is for cleaner restrooms.

Everything is so well decorated and artsy which makes for a wonderful photo op. On google this bookshop is known as the most instagrammable bookshop and it seriously lives up to it's title! There are art shops upstairs to: yarn shop and other paintings being sold* There are book sections that are sold for a dollar and then there are books sold for twenty six so always be on the lookout for a good price! They sell records downstairs. I was so happy when I found out The Last Bookstore sells Jamie Lynn Spears biography. The staff is nice so with your purchase you can get a bookmark and bag. *masks are still required in shop as of right now

This is a fun place to visit. Great prices, mind blowing selection, and lots to see/do. Brought my teenage kids along, one was just being difficult...but after half an hour he was thrilled and picked out a whole collection of books to buy.

Saw this book store as a recommended place to visit in LA. So many cool structures made out of books and interesting things to check out. You can actually spend up to two hours of your time browsing around and capturing nice photos for social media. Quite a busy spot. Clean and hand sanitizer is available. Check out the photos.

This was on my Must See List while visiting. As a bookaholic, how can you not. Super cool rare books rooms. The Labyrinth was even better, I could easily get lost here for a few hours. Great and helpful staff. Really enjoyed our visit.

Not just a book lovers delight but also great for those interested in music, CDs, history or even Instagram worthy spots. Spread over two levels, you’ll find all kinds of rare books here. There’s also a cafe and merchandise for purchase. There’s a shelf with $1 products comprising mostly cds but also some books. They take your bags at the entrance and return it when you’re leaving. Be careful of people hanging around outside and down the street asking ‘for change’ etc.

ive wanted to come here for quite some time and decided to finally make the trek. im glad i did. this location is an impressive 20k+ square feet which leaves much to be discovered as you wander around. both downstairs and upstairs (there's an elevator, too) have a plethora of both new and used books. downstairs, id say, is their largest selection of books, including comics and even a "rare book annex", along with a very decent vinyl collection. upstairs has a small coffee shop, art studios, a small gallery, and a few other fun things to peruse, including the famous book tunnel. many opportunities for interesting photos here. if you're near the area and are considering going, i highly recommend it.

This is not JUST a bookstore. The Last Bookstore is absolutely the best form of sensory overload for any book lover. It's an experience unlike any other. From the art exhibits upstairs to the flawless selection of new and used books, there's something to see at every turn. Can't wait to visit again.

So cool. The Rare Book Annex was so neat. Picked up a couple new 'to me' books. The vibe in the place was really laid back but also like they were sharing secrets.

Wonderful Shrine to Book Lovers from all over the world. Based in an old bank and converted to a bookstore many years ago with fascinating original features such as large vaults with original steel doors. Seating area with comfortable sofas and armchairs to enjoy leaving through huge selection of books on every conceivable subject. Upstairs is even more interesting with a Labyrinth of books that is tricky to navigate your way through. If you're a book lover, then this should be your first stop!

The Last Book Store holds a special place in my heart. It's a charming little bookstore that I visited for the second time, and I couldn't be happier with the experience. The moment I walked in, I felt a sense of warmth and coziness. The familiar scent of books filled the air, instantly putting me at ease. The staff recognized me from my previous visit and greeted me with friendly smiles, making me feel welcome. Despite its small size, The Last Book Store boasts a well-curated selection of books. From fiction to non-fiction, I found a variety of genres to choose from. It was a delight to browse through the shelves and discover hidden literary treasures. The store's ambiance is simple yet inviting. The cozy atmosphere made me feel right at home, and I enjoyed the peacefulness that comes with being surrounded by books. One small downside I encountered was the limited seating available. Given the store's size, finding a spot to sit and relax was a bit challenging. However, I didn't mind too much as I was more focused on exploring the books. In conclusion, The Last Book Store is a delightful little gem for book lovers. Despite its small size, it offers a well-curated selection and a cozy atmosphere. The friendly staff adds to the positive experience. If you're in search of a charming bookstore to explore, The Last Book Store is definitely worth a visit.

unique bookstore! loved the separate rooms with their own genre and matching decor, "the oldest books room" was almost creepy with the dark lighting but it was nice to step into and be enlightened of various old books and records.

Since I was in LA, I had to make the trip to the Last Bookstore. This is a huge two story bookstore that has both used and new books, as well as a much of bookish-merch and art. They used the space really cool, incorporating large art pieces throughout the store. There are used books intermixed into the shelves and there is a substantial fantasy and science fiction section on the second floor. There are some really cool photo ops as well!

  • 5/5 Merlyn R. 1 year ago on Google
Cool bookstore in the heart of downtown Los Angeles. Entry is free. There are so many different genres of books available here. Apart from books you there are also a few small stores on the first floor where you can purchase photo frames, posters, custom decor etc.. On the top floor you can also see books arranged in unique ways that are definitely photographic. Definitely a must visit when in LA and it’s a walkable distance from other touristy places in LA such as the Angels flight railway, the broad, Walt Disney concert hall etc.

  • 5/5 Karlie S. 11 months ago on Google
What a neat, unique place! I made the mistake of going on a Saturday morning, so the masses of people walking every which way was kind of annoying and definitely overstimulating. However, there are so many places to get lost (in a good way). I could spend hours here (days, really) discovering all its nooks and crannies. Downstairs is essentially a traditional layout with racks of books and a section for music/media. There is a side room immediately to the left of the entrance which holds rare and/or otherwise valuable pieces. The second floor layout is a tight little marvel in itself, where half is art studios and a small gallery. I don’t know if they do events, but it would definitely be a cool and unconventional place for it. If any one place can save the art of print, it’s here.

  • 5/5 Clara S. 1 year ago on Google
This place is amazing! I wish I had more time to explore each nook and cranny. There were some interesting books, as well as art, niches, and some interestingly designed themed room! It did not disappoint, and its also carried many awesome books. I just wish I had more room to carry books home in my luggage.
