My wife recently underwent surgery at The Avenue hospital, and we cannot help but feel compelled to share our unfortunate experience. While I understand that hospitals can be busy and unpredictable places, the wait we endured was nothing short of a nightmare. Our scheduled surgery was supposed to take place at 12:00 PM, and we arrived at the hospital early, filled with a mix of anticipation and anxiety. However, as the clock ticked away, our sense of optimism began to wane as we found ourselves waiting for over four excruciating hours before being wheeled into the operating room. Being a private patient paying top dollar with one of the best private insurance provider we expected better from The Avenue Hospital. During this interminable wait, my wife's anxiety soared, and the stress was exacerbated by the sterile and impersonal waiting area. The seats were uncomfortable, and there was a noticeable lack of information provided to patients about the status of their procedures. It felt as if I was a number on a list rather than a human being in need of care and reassurance. In the aftermath of this experience, her recovery process is more challenging than it needed to be. The stress and anxiety she felt during the prolonged wait undoubtedly had an impact on her overall well-being and post-operative healing. It's disheartening to think that the very place we had entrusted with my wife's health could have such a negative impact on her recovery. I have to admit the nurses were great and probably the saving grace for the hospital. Wish I had gone through the hospital reviews before we decided to go ahead with the surgery. The lack of communication and transparency from the hospital during this time was inexcusable. No one should have to endure such a stressful and disheartening wait when they are already in a vulnerable state.

A great hospital with excellent Covid screening process and care for patients. The MRI in radiology was excellent to diagnose my damaged ankle and provide immediate feedback to my specialist. Staff are friendly, efficient, and professional. When visiting the hospital please take into consideration extra time required for filling out paperwork.

Just a warning for anyone who has been referred to the Day Surgery Unit as a public patient. You'll be told to come in at 1:30pm but will be made to wait 5+ hours to go in as you'll be allocated last on the surgery list for the day. If you're someone who is young fit and generally healthy, this will merely be a frustrating and inconveniencing experience. Unfortunately for my elderly non-English-speaking relative (who is diabetic amongst other multiple comorbidities) being told there was at least a 4 hour wait as they were allocated last on the surgery list was not only frustrating and inconvenient. Our experience with the Day Surgery Unit can only be described as negligent. It's common sense and usually protocol for diabetic patients to be prioritised for surgery whether they are privately paying patients or not. This was the first instance where it was clear to us that their public status and the hospital's monetary greed was compromising patient safety. On arrival my relative's systolic blood pressure was >200mmHg. According to hospital guidelines this should initiate a MET call review. No form of escalation occurred. Not once in the 5 hours of waiting was the patient properly followed up/reviewed by anybody even when I finally found a nurse 3 hours later (they were so short staffed) and raised my concerns regarding potential complications the patient could face under sedation. The patient's complaints of a tight chest, shortness of breath, weakness/dizziness and black spots in their vision were ignored. Fast forward to discharge (9pm) we asked what the patient's blood pressure was. The nurse stated she "couldn't find the folder" and even refused to take one on the spot despite the machine being at arm's reach. This is just a brief review. I have never been so appalled and will be submitting a formal complaint in detail.

I attended The Avenue Hospital as a day patient. I’d never had surgery before and I was so nervous. Right from the beginning of my admission with Nurse Cat, I was treated with the uttermost respect, care, and kindness. I’ve never met such a kind Nurse and Cat went above and beyond to accommodate me. Nothing felt like it was a trouble and Cat did everything she could to make the experience comfortable. The whole team, led by Cat, made adjustments to fit my needs and calm my nerves. I felt listened to, respected and understood. The nursing staff frequently checked in on me and looked after me as an individual, not just another patient. I then had Nurse Amanda who look after me during the procedure and she was so kind. Then for the end of my procedure and infusion I had the wonderful Nurse Sarah look after me who was so caring, calm, and kind. She sat with me the whole time and chatted with me while the infusion was happening and this really helped with my nerves. I’m eternally grateful to the whole of The Avenue team, particularly the nursing staff who made my first visit to a hospital a reassuring and peaceful experience.

I was so worried reading all the negative reviews for this hospital before my procedure but I had an exceptional experience at the Avenue. The staff here are so genuinely caring and make you feel so at ease. I felt cared for and listened to throughout my stay and I was constantly reassured I was in good hand. The changeover between staff was seamless everytime, I was always introduced to my new nurse, everything was done by the books and even the food was nice! Thank you to the staff at the Avenue for making me feel safe and cared for. And if you have been worried by negative reviews, just putting your mind at ease: my experience was the best I could have hoped for.

I had a PAO performed at The Avenue Hospital last month and could not be happier with the service and care I received. From the initial check in I was treated with care and compassion. I spent five nights on the Orthopedic ward and cannot complain about a thing. The nurses were attentive, caring and up for a laugh, always popping their heads in to make sure I was comfortable. The Physios were caring and made sure I always felt safe whilst trying my exercises, the cleaners were polite and the food was fantastic. Truly felt like a hotel stay with good medications.

Keep clear, it’s under renovation s. Unless you don’t want to rest. I was told by the director of nursing I’m in the wrong place if I want a quiet room as that’s something they cannot supply. She was very rude and disrespectful. I ended up being transferred to the free ALFRED HOSPITAL BY AMBULANCE ON THE ADVICE OF A SENIOR SURGEON. Recommend to cancellation your health insurance and tell them why. Without private Heath insurance she’s just a lonely old woman in an empty building. AVOID THIS HOSPITAL AT ALL COSTS.

After suffering a knee injury which required full reconstructive surgery, I was admitted to spend 3 nights stay at The Avenue Hospital. I couldn’t be happier with the amazing staff, especially Maddy, Bijaya and Branton, for taking care of me during this time. Each and every one of them were responsive, friendly, caring and did everything they could to make me feel comfortable. I can’t thank them enough for the exceptional service. Amazing work team!

I was in for a procedure today and I am very needle-phobic. I cannot get over how incredibly kind and patient and communicative the staff were. I had an amazing nurse with me for the anesthetic but didn't catch her name and a caring nurse named Jonna who helped me all day before and after. There are no words for how thankful I am. It made everything so much easier for me and I am forever grateful.

I lost my $600 for cancelling my training placement in 2014. Their nursing manager issued me remarks in front of my trainer that in my culture we think women are low or inferior. Nothing happened or received any apology after I complained in writing. Scared to approach them but I am still upset in 2024.

Before having day surgery here a week ago, I read the reviews of this hospital and essentially braced myself for a horrible experience, but I had absolutely nothing to worry about, so I wanted to write this for anyone who is anxious about their upcoming stay here. The hospital is clean and calming, and the nurses are incredible. I was looked after so well and the nurses who work here are so wonderful, I wouldn’t have minded staying overnight (something I was dreading as a possibility of my operation). Jake, in particular, made my pre-operative wait 100 times better. He sat with me and chatted, and came down to the ‘waiting bay’ as he knew how nervous I was. Francis, my post-surgery nurse, was wonderful and funny and caring and kind. Trust me, I understand how horrible it is to wait for surgery, hungry and thirsty and nervous, but the people who work at The Avenue are basically angels. It’s an extremely good place to have something scary happen.

Firstly I would to commend the wonderful nursing staff, theatre staff, and local physio. Their care during my six night stay following hip replacement surgery was excellent. On the down side one of the main recovery plans is to continually place ice packs or ice in a bag on the very swollen leg, hip, and thigh area and unfortunately as much as I requested, it appeared there was not enough in the freezers as some ice packs brought to me were barely cold. The surgeon kept reminding me during his morning visits to ice the area and I explained why it wasn't happening therefore the massive swelling did not subside during the six day stay. Another issue was the quality of meals was very average (compared to the two other times I'd spent in this hospital in 14 years) mainly the roast pork ordered for lunch/dinner one day and three slices of ham came out on the plate. Once again, the staff are wonderful.

I felt privileged to be a patient at The Avenue Hospital, Windsor. The Nurses, Physiotherapists, Radiographers and Orderlies were so caring, professional, cheerful and considerate. I didn’t ever feel like I was a “nuisance” when I had to call for assistance (and help always arrived immediately). The catering staff were also a delight, punctuating the day with their huge smiles and plentiful offerings of meals, snacks and drinks. I only discovered by asking that the nurses were working huge shifts, but their competent attention and smiles never wavered, even at the end of a lengthy and demanding shift. I’d like to thank every person who helped me and made my stay so comfortable. Highly recommend this hospital for it’s impressive level of care and caring.

My son had a tonsillectomy surgery at the hospital with Dr Glenn Watson. The hospital service was wonderful, right from the start everything was well organised. Staff were very nice and accommodating. My son was extremely worried and unsettled, they took every measure to make him feel at ease. Everything at the hospital was clean and nurses tool good care of him throughout the day and night. My son wasn't sleeping well on his first night, and nurses were very supportive, they kept checking on him throughout the night. To be honest, after reading some negative reviews here, I was a bit concerned, but everything went well above standard and more than we expected. They even went beyond the usual to let me comfort my son during anesthesia. I'm pleased and blessed to have had such welcoming gesture and support for my son's surgery.

I was in 4 different hospitals within a year. Knox & Mulgrave were fantastic. The Avenue is the worst hospital I have ever been in. The nursing staff are awful and incompetent. Most are students. Cannot get medication, nobody answers buzzer. Want water? Good luck. Broken equipment and don't bother requesting it to be replaced. Try to complain and get a senior nurse who asks you not to complain.

I am currently a patient there and have been since 8/12/22 the staff there especially the nurses are all fantastic they go above and beyond their duties to look after you medical needs and make you super comfortable. My only complaint is the food, normally at private hospitals the food is very nice but this place isn’t, out of 4 meals I’ve had so far the scrambled eggs were nice and all the rest of the food has been horrible, unfortunately I live too far away for visitors so I can’t get people to bring me food 😔

Most pathetic service ever seen in a private hospital. Much worse than a public hospital. I had gastroscopy procedure to be done and was there at the appointment time of 01:30, didn't get any attention till 05:00 pm. Got so upset that i left without the procedure. it could be because i was referred by Alfred and they are totally money minded people. I just don't understand why they give appointment time. Since everybody has got a time to be attended, why there is so much torture? i understand that in a hospital every patient may take a bit more or less time. But 03:30 hour delay was just not acceptable. Don't know how much more time i had to wait. I was not supposed to eat or drink even water since morning but they truly don't care... These selfish people literally don't care about patient's time and condition...Spoiled my entire day... Please look after yourself and don't get trapped in circumstances like mine...

This hospital lacks any understanding of effective clinical care. They have no systems to give information from surgery to the wards. The nursing staff are unkind with absolutely no compassion. Please don't go to this hospital.

I can't speak highly enough of the staff and nurses that work here. I got a tonsillectomy two weeks ago and Faye, Marissa and Sarah were incredibly supportive and helpful. These nurses are honestly some of the nicest, most caring, genuine and kind nurses and people I have ever met and received professional treatment and support from. I cannot speak highly enough of them. Marissa and Faye were incredibly helpful and supportive pre and post surgery and gave me tonnes of support. Sarah was super helpful and supportive in the morning when I was about to be released from hospital. The customer service and professionalism was impeccable. Thank you very much Faye, Marissa and Sarah. You are all awesome!

Recently stayed for knee surgery. Being able to park right at the front door, have nurses come to my room in less than a minute and be happy to help with the simplest of things like tying shoe laces when I had a buggered knee made ALL the difference. (Thanks Kristen) The room was very large, private en-suite well appointed and everyone frankly had the time and ability to care about my wellbeing and comfort. I would have dealt with 20+ people from various departments and all couldn't do enough to help me. I comfortably worked with a laptop and felt no sense of concern having electronics left unattended in my room. Simply outstanding guys, thank you so much for holding such high personal and professional standards, it was a pleasure.

My experience coming here was amazing. From the get go. The level of care from Sloane Rama Diane Brad and Mary. They knew it was my first ever admission to hospital. I was very scared as I was having an eye lid operation. Would recommend the Avenue for the wonderful care they give. The food was lovely and if you needed anything else it was there for you. They actually cannot do enough for you.

Overdue for an upgrade for a private hospital it didn't meet expectations in fact with the $500 excess would of been far better spent at a hotel! felt as if I was pushed to leave the hospital after day 1 after my surgery and the nursing had to gain the doctors permission to allow me to stay longer," I was clearly suffering from a reaction to the anaesthesia nausea, dizziness and sweating profusely can't eat or drink at all, and have the nurses saying your blood pressure is low and I couldn't pour the water into the jug from being so ill and dehydrated, "you will need another drip if you don't drink" and had to explain the the fact I couldn't pour the water jug and needed help and that would be why I am dehydrated?! feeling the nursing staff need to take a step back and out themselves in the patients shoes and remember that kindness is free.

I am currently an in patient at this hospital, the food is disastrous, tasteless and not very appealing or nutritious and certainly not very presentable. I will say , the desserts are not bad but I am not a dessert person. I am having to ask family to bring me food in from home. Thanks god the the sandwiches are at least chewable. If you are planing on coming here have the Uber eats app you will need it to order some presentable tasty food.

I'm writing this for my mother, who came here for 5 nights for a total hip replacement last week. First off she was very nervous, as expected. She needed a Rapid Antigen Test prior which we couldn't get anywhere but luckily we were informed by the reception staff that they can supply one for her, which they did and was accommodated by a very nice nurse which performed if for her. We were clearly there on a busy morning as the waiting area was full but luckily we didn't have to wait too long so my mothers nerves didn't get to her. I wasn't aware of their current covid rules and didn't know I wouldn't be able to help my mother upto her room, which made her uneasy. The man doing her admission called upto the nurses to see if they could help her bags upstairs as she couldn't carry them herself. The nurses were apparently busy which almost made me argue that I would take them up but instead he offered and helped her upstairs himself which was very kind. As my mother went up I had a chat to the young lady at reception about the procedures of the hospital, which she was very courteous and helpful about, giving me numbers for her area of the hospital. My mothers time on the hospital ward by her account was amazing. She has had many visits to hospitals over the last decade but this one was her most daunting but also her most pleasant. She said the nurses were always there to help her and everything went off without a hitch. They not only calmed her nerves but also helped her with her electronics so she could contact me and the family. She was given a nice private room with amenities and a great view. She had no problem with the food and was accommodated for her allergies. Her doctor was very professional and personable and even gave me a call himself afterwards to let me know that everything went great and she would have an easy recovery. Unfortunately I can't remember his name but I will thank him separately on my mothers behalf. My mother has told me she will write her own letter to the hospital when she has regained her strength, but from me on her behalf I would like to thank everyone that assisted her; from the reception staff - operating - and ward. Thank you.

If I could give no stars I would. I had an appointment here which I had to wait a while to get understandably with Covid. I get there at 7:50am for my 8am appointment (which was requested over the phone). I get there, the door is locked which is fine and the moody reception walks on past and give a side eye. She had lost her capability to smile clearly. At 7:59 I looked through the window as I thought it’s a bit harsh to make patient wait in the freezing cold. She locks eyes eye me again while she’s sitting inside and again, give a dirty look. She then storms out and aggressively says we open at 8! If I’m $200 for just a consult I expect something a little more than a grumpy reception who doesn’t know basic customer service. There are a hundred other gastroenterologists around. Avoid this one. Better yet, if you can just go public!

I spent 4 days in The Avenue for some fairly major surgery and was delighted with the level of care provided. The room was spacious and comfortable. When I brought attention to a fault with the bed it was quickly replaced. The food was excellent with a wide variety of choice and dinner always included soup and sweets. The staff delivering the food and others responsible for maintaining the room were friendly and efficient. The nursing staff were brilliant. They carried out their duties carefully and their attention to detail and responsiveness was reassuring. A special mention to Taylah and Nicole who were with me most days and to Rachel who booked me out. I was visited every day by my surgeon, Dr Eugene Ek and Dr Chin who advised me of the recovery process and kept in touch with my progress. I always felt that I had the very best people managing my post-op care.

I would like to say my experience with EVERY single person associated with The Avenue Hospital has been excellent. I recently had surgery 3 months ago, and will have another surgery in a few weeks. From the lovely and kind people who would quickly and quietly clean my room, to the lovely people bringing food and collecting trays, to all the behind the scenes people. My nurses in particular Sarah were beyond amazing, Sarah was kind, genuine and compassionate. The nurses (and the physio) helped me shower and took so much care with an enormous amount of dignity. Nothing was too much trouble, and the kindness I was shown I will never forget in a very vulnerable time of my life. The theatre nurses, were so reassuring, they knew I was concerned / worried even though I don’t show it, they knew. The anaesthetist, the assisting surgeon and my surgeon David Young, you are an amazing team, that made me above all feel safe. Thank you all for your genuine and real kindness, compassion and help. I am naturally worried about my up coming surgery in a few weeks, but I feel completely safe with The Avenue Hospital and having the surgery at this magnificent hospital.

Surgical procedure with a one night stay. Plenty of information provided prior to admission date. Admission itself was the smoothest process ever experienced. Nurses are absolutely amazing and serviced all my requests and showed great caring and understanding with prompt responses. Room was nice and quiet, with WiFi and TV. Certainly am exceptional private health experience.

If I could give zero star I definitely would. All they care about is their fees. I went to the hospital for a Colonoscopy and Gastroscopy. My appointment was at 8:15AM. I went there at 7:15AM because I needed to do a rapid antigen test for covid. Had to wait for 30 minutes because they didn’t have the kits!!!! Then finally I was admitted for my procedure (not to mention, just as usual if there are white patients in the line they are always priority - after 11 years of living in Australia I kind of accepted this). Those who have done this procedure know for sure the preparation is exhausting, I literally hadn’t eaten for like 24 hours and only had drunk the fluids. I was admitted around 8:10AM and had to wait for 3 hours (I am still waiting as I write this review) and nothing. They only have one procedure room so I saw two other patients before me who were also waiting for so long for the same procedure. Eventually at 11:00AM one of the nurses came and started the preparation like putting the needle to my arm etc. I just can’t believe a private hospital self funded (I paid $2K for this) is worse a lot worse than a public hospital. I have had to do this procedure at Alfred and the waiting time was only 45 minutes. Due to COVID19 I had to go to a private hospital. Please just don’t go to this hospital because they are so transactional and even though staff is kind, the fact that they don’t give a damn about people’s time is beyond exhausting. I have my father who has a cancer in my care and can’t believe that none of these matter to this hospital. I don’t know about other private hospitals, but if your doctor asks you to do whatever you need to do in a private hospital just please read reviews first and find somewhere else.

I recently spent a few days at The Avenue and I think 3 stars is a fair review. It was self funded surgery and the hospital component cost me just under $11,000 for a 2 night stay. The room probably needed a repaint 2 years ago, but to be fair covid may be delaying things like this. However I expect cleanliness in a private hospital to be exemplary and it wasn't. Care levels varied, day staff were always good, night not so good. Weekend, ok, but clearly not in the loop of what goes on. I was discharged with no clear after care instructions and still bleeding. 14 days later I am still bleeding and have an infected wound. I have had to have the wound redressed every single day since discharge including the same day of discharge, multiple times per day in the first week, by my GP and on days he couldn't see me by nurses at my home. The lack of information given on discharge, to me, is not right. Getting discharged was an ordeal on it's own. My husband picked me up, we live over an hours drive away and discharge is 9 - 9.30am. When he arrived just after 9 I told him that I was told we have to wait for Pharmacy to bring my medication up. 2 hours later and we were still sitting there, despite asking a couple of times about it as the place most certainly was not busy. At about 11, the nurse, likely sensing some annoyance by us, gave me some discharge papers and told me to go to the Pharmacy ourselves on the way out. The medication was there, packaged with my name on it so I presume Pharmacy had no intention at all of taking it to my room. I was then charged for the medication, despite saying I had a PBS safety net card and there is no charge on that PBS medicine (confirmed when I got the same medicine on script from my GP, cost 0.00). Despite my husband paying for 2 hours parking when picking me up, the over 2 hour wait for something we did ourselves put us over the 2 hour limit. If I receive a fine, I know where I will be sending it. I don't enjoy leaving reviews with negativity, however I expected better care than what I received. I work in the Health Sector, so do have care knowledge.

Big Shout to Kate & other nursing staff for being such great support during Surgery Stay at The Avenue Hospital. The staff is very supportive and take genuine care specially when you are pretty much dependent after surgery rehab. Apart from Support Staff, i found Hospital Management very average , infact public hosptals has better processes and resources, They had very limited staff and all the nurses doing twice the amount of work.

I spent 3 days in this hospital on in October 2022. For a basic procedure. I unfortunately had a reaction to aniescedic. The staff and Dr,s care was second to none. I very much appreciate the annomous effort all the hospital stuff put in. Around the clock care. Even tho your short on staff. Well managed polite and respectful. The only downside Is sometimes after pressing the nurse call button I had to wait so long for a nurse to come. It could have been crucial. Just spoke to Cameron in admissions and he was super helpful in answering all my questions and following up on a couple of things for me as well. Have been a patient at The Avenue hospital previously and have always received excellent patient care.

In recently for hip surgery. Room was nice, support was great and would like to call out Michael from the Phillipines who was my night nurse. He was so attentive, caring and a real comfort on the nights I was feeling overwhelmed. Rick who took me to get x-rayed is another absolute ray of sunshine working at that hospital.

Had a really great experience here. There was a bit of a wait from admission time which was a bit uncomfortable as I had been fasting all day. But the nurses were lovely, attentive and friendly. I woke up pretty animated after sedation but they handled everything really well. They definitely know what they’re doing and would be very happy to go there again should I ever need to in the future.

I recently visited the Avenue Hospital for a procedure on my feet. I stayed in for 2 nights and stayed in a shared room. My stay was very comfortable, the staff were very kind and attentive: special shout out to Kaylah, Nicole, Mietta, Chloe (the physio) & John (the porter) who is a total legend.

I was here for an abdominal scan. Staff at reception was friendly and Ben in Radiology department was very kind and thorough. Everything was done on time with least waiting.

I can not praise the staff enough the care I have been given after surgery has been outstanding. That includes all staff not only Nurses and Doctors. Food was exceptional lots of variety to cover all requirements.

Very poor experience! I went in for a gastric bypass procedure. When I awoke not only was I told that the procedure was unsuccessful but one of the staff had also backed over my wife in his car. Also, very slow delivery drivers.

My 5 year old had surgery and we were put in a room that was freezing cold due to the air conditioning. I repeatedly asked for the air con to be turned down or off to no avail. My son is crying and shivering yet 2 air con vents are still blasting out freezing cold air.

I recently had a stay at The Avenue Hospital and I was very impressed with the hospital and staff . Nothing was too much , the room was very clean and spacious . Food was very good . I had a beautiful nurse who went way above what I expected . Her name was Julia, I am going back to the hospital next month and I hope to have the same review afterwards

Excellent patient care. Extremely impressed by all the staff who took the time to make sure I was comfortable. They made sure that they communicated the procedure to me and made sure that I was well looked after both before and after the procedure. Well done Avenue staff. 👏

Recently I had day Surgery and would like to make a Special mention to Kathleen & Jona, whom were the nurses that took care of me through Surgery from pre to post. They both had Great People skills and a Wealth of knowledge in MOH Surgery. The Surgeon Dr Adam Sheridan did a thorough Job. I’ve been admitted for this procedure on numerous occasions and there has been a vast improvement on Hospital Admissions Staff.
