I received a 4 hour 1:1 fly fishing lesson with Martin as a birthday gift and booked it some months ago by telephone. From the start, I found Martin to be friendly and professional and was impressed with the communication I received from him, including directions and details of what to expect on the day. I had my lesson today and had a fantastic experience. Martin is a great coach who understands the need to give his students good quality instructions without overwhelming them. Within the first hour I was able to cast effectively enough to actually fish the lake we were on and as the lesson progressed I was able to cast out further and further. The time flew and I reached the end of the lesson wanting more. I will be back soon and look forward to spending more time learning about this fascinating sport with Martin.

I had two lessons with Martin. I really enjoyed both, he has an easy way of instruction. I always think teaching old blokes must be the hardest of tasks. He fed me information and taught me skills effortlessly.. I highly recommend him.

My father and I spent the afternoon fishing with Martin and enjoyed every minute of it. Martin is an extremely knowledgeable and friendly guide, showing great patience in teaching us how to fly fish (we knew nothing going into it!). We both ended up catching fish and having an all around great time. Martin followed up with lots of links and information about fly fishing and we look forward to buying our own gear and going fishing again soon.

My Dad and Myself have Just come back from a full days fishing tuition with Martin, What a fantastic experience. Martin is not only very knowledgeable and experienced he is also very easygoing, it was like learning from an old friend you’d known for years. After losing 2 fish Martin looked more gutted than us, and when I hooked into the 3rd Martin who was on the other side of the lake looking after my dad ran round and after I had managed to play this one into the reeds he did everything but jump into the water to make sure I landed this one which I did. So thanks again Martin for making it such an enjoyable day.

I had a very informative and enjoyable 4 hr fly fishing kesson with Martin at Lakedown in Burwash today .I am a total beginner and Martin was very patient and thorough and gradually built up my inconsistent casting action ,from how to hold the rod to watching if a fish took the fly in the lake. Was very easy to find and he had all the kit you would need to get a feel for the sport,and the scenery on a November day was stunning.Thank you so much for a great morning and your encouraging words.I will definitely try again..... I booked an introductory lesson with Martin and had a great time. Martin is a very good teacher, he explains everything clearly and got us up to a basic level of casting very quickly. Martin is also great company, fun, full of interesting information and very generous with his time. He obviously loves fly fishing and his enthusiasm is infectious. Can't recommend highly enough.

Had the 8 hour tuition with Martin and it was a fantastic day. Weather held off and I fulfilled a lifetime ambition to fly fish. I learnt so much, had a laugh and enjoyed a late autumn day at Chequertree. I never thought that at 60 I could learn something new and actually enjoy it. Martin guided, encouraged and at no time was there any criticism of my novice mistakes. By the end of the day, I was casting confidently and can go forward with my new skill and improve thanks to Martin. One of the most wonderful days of my life and would happily spend a day with Martin just for the pleasure of his company. A lovely chap all round.

My brother and I had a really great day with Martin and learnt so much. We had fished before, but not as successfully as we would have liked, but Martin was able to help us exactly where we needed it. He has an excellent teaching manner that is relaxed and informative and really allows the student to enjoy the experience. An anniversary experience and a life list completed! Neither of us had any experience in fly fishing. Martin was a fantastic teacher and supported us to complete our goal. We took Martins advice on venue (Lakedown was a fabulous venue with toilets and refreshments) and he provided all the equipment, a very knowledgeable and kind gentleman. Would definitely recommend!

We booked a fly fishing training session for 5 people with Martin and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. Everything required is provided and we just had to ‘turn up’. Martin had support from another tutor (Lee) due to size of our group and they were very knowledgable and had us all casting on the grass before moving to the water. We spent a great afternoon fishing, even catching on our first trip out! Martin has provided details of all of the essential equipment we will need and offered many tips as we take up this sport. Excellent tutors!

Martin was brilliant. He taught us methodically, giving us heaps of information but in bite-size pieces, so we could absorb each part before moving on to the next. My hubby and I had a fantastic half day with him. Delighted to say we can both fly-fish now 🎉 Highly recommend Martin! 👍👍👍

What an amazing day! Beautiful location at Lakedown, clear and useful instruction, and lots of extra tips. I loved every part of the day, as did my husband. When trying out a new activity for the first time you hope to find someone friendly, knowledgeable and encouraging. Martin is all of these and more. When we met up with our sons after their lesson they were buzzing! In addition to the excellent instruction they received on the day Martin then followed up with an email full of useful video links, advice and even the offer of further support when he sees them again. Highly recommended.

I had a great day fishing with Martin. He has a friendly, relaxed approach to tuition but is very informative at the same time. He kept a watchful eye on me and was always at hand with good advice. As a complete beginner to fishing, I sought out Martin for an introductory lesson to the sport. Martin combines a relaxed coaching style with his deep knowledge of fishing, which enabled me as a novice to grasp the fundamentals of fly casting and understand the behaviour of fish. I have since had several lessons with Martin which has helped me to build confidence in casting and achieve my goal of being able to catch & cook my own fish. If you have an interest in fishing but are unsure where to start, I highly recommend Martin as a tutor.

Thoroughly enjoyed 2 hr lesson with Martin yesterday.He is extremely knowledgeable,very welcoming and I found his instructions and demonstrations easy to understand.He even sent me online loads of helpful information about fly fishing afterwards.
