I had the unfortunate experience of staying one night in one of their basement rooms. I’d have been more comfortable in my garden shed. The room stank of damp and there were only 2 plug sockets by the window, neither of which was working. We asked to be moved room due to the constant loud creaking of the stairs above our heads but were told that they were fully booked. On a Monday night. I would recommend never staying here.

We had a basement room and the noise propagation from the ground floor was horrible. The room smelled of damp and when we asked to change rooms they said they were fully booked an a Monday evening which is impressive given how terrible the hotel is. The room itself isn't particularly nice but coupled with the noise and smell it was genuinely a terrible stay.

It was only thirty pounds so was a real bargain. Staff from arrival to breakfast were great. Polite and helpful. The bed was comfortable and we slept well. However the room itself was pretty poor. The bathroom was antiquated. Mildew and mould probably because there was no extract fan. No shower curtain and a fairly grotty toilet. Such a great looking building from outside. It's a shame not to take a bit more care of the rooms.

Great place to stay. Lovely, friendly staff. Our room was enormous and clean. Will definitely be back again soon 👍

I work away from my family most weeks and demand a good room, however this I wouldn’t even call it a hotel just a building with rooms, very little parking (which you have to pay for extra)for vans, staff training needs improving as I’m clearly not the receptionists mate, if you’re a tradesman you are advised by staff to park on a lovely dark street so it can get robbed, as for the room basic as always cobwebs bathroom!! been in better cells (the maintenance person loves a silicone gun) Hope this doesn’t offend anyone but the room I was in I wouldn’t leave a dog in

Very noisy hotel, it was clearly a large & fancy hotel years before it was a travelodge. Every single floorboard in the place is creaky. The heating doesn’t work. The decor is very dated, cracked paint and tiny rooms…. The staff I spoke to were sound. Next to no phone signal & the Wifi is awful

Pretty much the worst travelodge I've stayed in. Really expensive ( you have to pay for parking too ) The curtain was broken, mould next to the shower, broken floorboards to trip over and a room shaped like a dungeon. Genuinely would rather have slept in a cave. Staff were friendly and helpful though and even looked sorry for us when they gave us our key

What a magnificent building, beautiful stained glass window in entrance lobby. Our room had very high ceiling with original cornices and small veranda, although you could not use it. No hand soap in room on arrival but was rectified in 10 minutes by a very helpful member of staff. Good location. Only 10 minutes walk to town centre. Very well situated for 1 night stay. Very reasonable. £27.22 for midweek stay. Would definitely return when in area again. Car park on site £4.00 for 24 hours. Would recommend

Good lower budget hotel for less than £100 the room I stayed was clean and tidy the shower was good and had soap and adequate towel amount TV worked sometimes I can't get them to work not being a rocket scientist.. my room LG 1 was fine but friends family room LG11 wasn't as clean and shower was poor with hair in plug hole. Breakfast is expensive if you don't want to stuff your face with meat .. I normally prefer just a bowl of cereal but the unlimited breakfast is £9. So I didn't have breakfast. You have to pay for parking . I think it's on Ringo app

Bed & pillows were comfortable and clean. Relatively quiet. Great location – very central and walking distance if you’re visiting the theatre. Herbie at the front desk was very nice and helpful.

Started to try to go to sleep at 09.45 in room 112. Firstly I had to jam the window closed with a tea bag holder to stop it rattling. Then there was continual loud noise from directly below me in the bar. There should be NO accommodation above facilities like that. With STILL no sleep at 01:05 I eventually went downstairs to ask them to keep it down when I found that it was a senior member of staff talking loudly with someone which, I was informed, he was trying to help but had been doing so for AGES. Back to the room hoping for some peace and quiet. Not a chance as the conversation still carried on. Back downstairs with all my goods at 01:25 and insisted on a room move or I would leave. I was then moved to room LG10 where this time the noise above me kept going until 06:12. It wasn’t from the hallway above near the vending machine but in a room / rooms above me. I eventually got 1 hour of sleep until 07:20. As such, the complimentary breakfast I had been offered went uneaten as I felt quite I’ll from lack of sleep. I missed the assignment I was to attend at 08:30 as I felt quite unwell. I then still had a full day helping clear my mother’s house in Forest Road before trying to drive back to Devon in the evening. The lack of consideration by staff not enforcing the “Keep It Down” message around the building and in fact, overtly contributing to the noise, wrecked what I hoped would be a relaxing stay. I will never stay with Travelodge again.

Really poor parking enabling predatory parking attendants. Shouldn't be paying at all if you're a guest at the hotel. Got given the wrong room on arrival that already had someone in it, so really poor for security. The building and rooms are old and musty. Not value for money at all.

As someone who has served in the forces, I've lived in better barrack rooms. The people who own this should hold their heads in shame. If you stand in one place long enough you will stick too the carpet. There is no aircon the rooms and they are antiquated. You have to put kettle on floor to plug it in. You have to pay for Internet access, I mean come on in this day and age really!! The only nice thing I can say about this hotel is the staff are as good and pleasant as they can be considering the hole they have to work in. The flashing light from the fire alarm sensor above the bed keeps you awake, as does the traffic. The bed and the pillows were hard. No spoon to stir tea or coffee and you have to ask for a hairdryer. Travelodge need to start thinking about paying people to stay here as it's certainly not worth the money they charge.

We have happily stayed in this hotel many times in the past but not, however, for the past 8/9 months. I'm sorry to say the deterioration is evident the second you walk up to the front door. The entrance was littered with cigarette butts. The staff on the front desk was less than welcoming. The elevator was not working which was not a huge inconvenience for us personally but still. We we're there 3 nights. Our room was facing the back parking lot which is no problem, it's usually quieter back there, however there was a roof below our window that was covered in cigarettes butts and other garbage. Our room itself was just grubby. The WiFi we paid extra for didn't work most of the time. The room was not refreshed once, no coffee, milk etc. The toilet didn't flush properly. In the breakfast room, the food warmers were mostly empty and it took ages for them to be replenished. The toilet on the main floor was absolutely disgusting. When I mentioned it to reception they advised the toilet is cleaned every day. If that's the case, they need to find better cleaners. In the past one of the huge assets to the hotel was its staff. They were always cheerful, welcoming and ready to share a laugh. I can't help but think the current staff are absolutely miserable in their work environment because it shows. The hotel is old, it's beautiful and deserves to be treated so much better than its being treated at the moment.

A bit of a dive, weeds growing from balconies. No proper dining room for dinner. Breakfast OK but lots dried out under heat lamps. Really just a commercial hotel for workers and trades. Vans parked everywhere, and quite noisy. Probably the worst nights sleep ever. Bed was so hard, I ma's as well have slept on the floor. Slightly better than sleeping in car.

By far the worst hotel I’ve encountered. The only positive point I can highlight is they’re pet friendly and the location is ok. If you have a pet they will put you in basement rooms which they don’t highlight in advance. The rooms are damp, mouldy, and one of them did not even have a window - not sure how this is allowed!! So you’re literally underground with lots of damp air around you which feels unsafe. Might be better on upper floors but these rooms simply should not be let out, they’re disgusting at any price really. Avoid if you can!

Welcoming staff. Service is good. The staff is supportive and accommodating within their reach.Breakfast is Amazing. Wonderful stay in a historical building in Tunbridge Wells. And it has lovely walks opposite to it.

Good location reasonable parking cost, nice old building with original features. Rooms large and clean. But sadly due to lack of staff service took some time. Looked like 2 staff members were running the hole operation 😅 the reception, the bar the kitchen and cooking and service and Dealing with frustrated customers. Well done you 2 👌 and my pizza was spot on even through it took ages to arrive 👏

Could be better. 1. There is limited parking space at this hotel, Prepayment is required. The staff warned us that if we go out, there may not be parking space when we return later in the day, There is no other parking space nearby. 2. The carpet in our room was stained and faded. 3. The bath was stained near the plug. 4.The floorboards are very noisy/squeaky throughout. 5. The kettle could not be safely boiled on the work surface because the socket was behind the TV. The only alternative was to boil the kettle on the floor beside the bed. 6. There was only one chair. Our request for another chair was refused. Summary: Could be better.

Was a lovely room and the location was perfect, don’t love the paying for parking think that’s quite rude and lots of stairs in the hotel and that lift is tiny. But overall was fine could do with being decorated a bit though.

For what it is, not bad at all. Good value for money, 26 pounds, comfortable beds, slightly hard pillows but I know some people prefer that. Quiet at night. Great parking spot right in front and arranged by staff. Would be good to have some water in the room for the kettle but honestly, can't complain for the price! Would stay again.

Parking is very limited to say the least. Staff helpful and yes a period property so has many old building traits. As travel around the country working the quikiness of this site was good and a change from repetitive layout.

The staff were great, but the room was incredibly basic even by Travelodge standards. The ensuite bathroom was straight out of the ark, and the toilet sounded like it was going to take off when flushed. Virtually no parking to speak of.

Obviously not the most fancy hotel but it is a great place to stay for a long weekend! Surprising fancy building. I am used to standard travelodge hotels but this one looks like a history building!

Used accessible ground floor room which was very spacious and well equipped. Reception staff extremely helpful and friendly. I did not see accessible entrance (though there may have been somewhere) so it was a bit of a struggle. Good bar and cafe, very useful as shops a little walk away. Very nice old building still retaining some of its old character.

Large rooms, quiet environment, parking for about 20 to 25 vehicles (cost £4 per 24hours) including disabled parking, kitchen is good just little choice, breakfast is OK included in the price, Prefer full English. Good and friendly service, would name Herbie from reception, as he is very friendly and helpful with broad knowledge of the nearby activities and attractions. Please note: they don't even know the meaning of "tips"! It hasn't been accepted: "I have my salary"! There is a little bar with a good choice of drinks on cheap. In the room they had only the most essential furniture but very comfortable; TV, kettle, a long desk and 2 chairs, shelf and hangers. Bathroom simple but very clean. The room consisted of hallway, bedroom, and bathroom. The bed is standard double, with good quality mattress. We used the place as a base to visit nearby places and attractions, means we always have been away during the day, at night was quiet and comfortable. I would notice the exceptional service from the evening receptionist and bartender Herbie who treated us as his personal guests and I noted he did the same with everybody. For the management I would suggest: that receptionist, bartender, waiter, and bellboy positions are not really for just one person. Even if he does very well.

It's got a good location and there is free parking nearby, but be warned they charge for their parking on their property. The rooms are OK, cleanliness - variable. There's nothing bad but there's nothing great either. I'd say functional and minimal.

We loved the high ceilings, tall windows, awesome internal staircase, great views across the tree tops, and an enormous family room. The hotel is only a few minutes walk from the shops too. The floor creaked and a little of the decoration could have been updated, but actually I felt like I was in a much more expensive hotel than I actually was. Definitely going back :-)

Stayed 2 nights as we were attending a family wedding nearby ... the building is old and in need of refurbishment ... the room itself was very clean.... but very basic ... we had a meal on first evening which was good as was breakfast n each morning

Bargain price double room, booked only 24 hours before visit. Limited parking, £4 for 24 hours. Beautiful old building. Not far from town, walkable distance away

It's a lovely old building and the family room we stayed in was a lovely size with high ceiling. The floor boards were very creeky so impossible not to disturb others in the room as you are moving around. The bathroom was a nice size and clean and functional. The breakfast was unorganised, when we asked for white bread, what they brought out was frozen, there were none of the promised pancakes and bagels and there were still 2 hours of breakfast to go

Booked over 40 rooms for a wedding and it was a prime location and housed people adequately with comfy beds. The staff do the best they can with the facilities of an older building which is very majestic-looking and close to all. The people working there are friendly and accommodating, so a big shout out to Raj, Mel, Herbie, the gent behind the bar and the breakfast chef. A very hearty meal and unlimited.

Soon as we arrived the receptionist was just sitting down in the bar area chatting. After about a minute of me standing there she finally said are you alright? I said yes I need to check in. The building is nice, but sound travels and there were a load of drunk people hovering around in the early hours, which woke us up after a couple of hours sleep. We would’ve complained to reception about them, but there was nobody on reception. All in all, a shambles! Will be staying somewhere else next time!

Great value for money. Really friendly helpful staff. Very old hotel that would have been so grand in it's day, quite tired looking now but our room was very large with some original features which added to our stay. Room was clean, bed was comfortable... what more do you need!Would definitely stay again if we were in the area.

We paid £86 for 1 night. Unfortunately, it wasn't a great experience. Upon arrival there were no parking spaces and had to park down the road away from the hotel. For a place of this size was ridiculous. Checked in fine. Room was very basic. Fancied a cuppa, one of the teaspoons had obviously not been washed so put me off completely. The bathroom also basic, just a couple of towels, no flannel or bath mat or complementary soaps. The bath was not clean, visible bleach marks around the edges. Definitely needed a good scrub, glad I had showered before we arrived. Went down to use the bar, no beer on tap, just Guinness and draft. So went into town for food and drink. However, the bed was comfy, although could have been bigger as feet hung over the end. We did not stay for breakfast as we just wanted to leave. For £86 we feel we were definitely ripped off! One good thing was that it was a 10 minute walk to shops and restaurants.

Reception staff are very good however we twice put out the request to be topped up on the door. The first time the tag was removed but nothing done, the second time the tag was still there and nothing done so both times we had to go to Reception to make requests. We are staying 8 nights so expected better service. Will be contacting Travelodge directly as disappointed with the service we've received.
