Liked this pub. Lots of outside seating, perfect for a warm summer's day. Well worth the walk up the hill. Decent selection of beers

This place is simply astounding. The atmosphere is on point, perfectly little quaint pub. What a hidden gem. If you find yourself in Tunbridge Wells, come by here and grab yourself a drink in a wonderful environment. Served by a lovely lad named Harrison, always pleasant, even at quiet times always ready for a lovely interaction. Food was spectacular. Had a Chicken Kyiv, was spectacular. For what you pay it is more than worth it. Would 100% reccomend!

Nice Greene King chain pub with pleasant atmosphere in the old town... The pub is frequented by nice locals and had a nice family style vibe, it does get busy most days (especially during holiday periods) so if you want a table I recommend booking in advance... Food menu is quite diverse containing the usual gastro style pub grub offerings you would expect... Staff were polite and service good...

Lovely old pub with loads of character. The staff were very friendly. Heaps of outdoor seating in the front and to the side as you enter plus a smaller, nonsmoking area just off the lower inside room. The pub was very clean and tidy and the Guinness was excellent as was the Comppasses Ale - brewed by Greene King for the pub.

Visited last night and a big improvement. The ridiculous one way system is gone so the tension has too. The upper bar has nice tuck and roll seating and the new manager was very friendly and welcoming. I have never seen Corona beer on tap outside of America, so another n live addition to the extensive range of ales and lagers. Will be back to try the food

A lovely pub, great value food and ales. Staff were very friendly and polite. Interior is very clean and with a pleasant ambience. Very pleasant beer gardens, one large fronting the road and a smaller more intimate one to the rear at the side. Would highly recommend this pub.

Visited The Compasses last night for dinner with friends. This is the first time we've been there and we were all blown away by the fantastic food, service and atmosphere. Lovely, cosy pub feel and although there was a band playing (they were really good too), we were able to chat and enjoy our food. We all ordered different dishes, all of which were delicious. The squid starter was just amazing! We will definitely be visiting again soon, I've got my eye on their Sunday roast menu...

It is a very nice pub with a good menu and a great variety of choices for drinks. My family and I met a very close friend for lunch at this pub and we all enjoyed our food, drink and the time spent there. The staff are very efficient, courteous and very prompt. They served us well yet allowed us the privacy every customer would want. It was very clean too. Keep up the good work guys!

I hadn't been to the Compasses for quite some time, but I was there this afternoon to celebrate my birthday with family and friends. We thought we might be there for a couple of hours, but it turned into 4-5 hours because we enjoyed ourselves so much! It was such a good afternoon. The food, drink and service were all excellent. And since the weather was good we moved outside where there were plenty of tables and lots of space. The manager, Robin, introduced himself - such a nice guy! Pleasure to meet you Robin - we will back in the near future!

Lovely pub with a great cosy feel. Second visit here and this time was with a larger group of family. The service was excellent, made to feel very welcome and everyone enjoyed thier food. There is something on the menu for most people. Would recommend if you are visiting the area.

I recently visited this pub a few times since summer, and I must say that it's a bit of a mixed bag. The atmosphere, the food, and the bar staff all have their own unique charm, but the manager's attitude left a bit to be desired. Positives: the moment I walked into the compasses, I was struck by the cozy and welcoming atmosphere. The dimly lit, rustic interior, paired with comfortable seating, instantly put me at ease. It's the kind of place where you can sink into a corner booth, forget about the outside world, and enjoy a relaxing evening with friends or even on your own. The food is another highlight. The menu offers a variety of mouthwatering options, and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and presentation of the dishes. The bar staff were an absolute delight. They were friendly, attentive, and went out of their way to make our visit enjoyable. Whether it was recommending a craft beer or just striking up a casual conversation, they were the shining stars of the evening. Negatives: Unfortunately, the one major drawback at the compasses is the manager's behavior. I witnessed firsthand a few confrontations that left a sour taste in my mouth. The manager seemed quick to anger and had no qualms about engaging in arguments with patrons. This unpleasant behavior undoubtedly had a dampening effect on the otherwise pleasant atmosphere. It's a shame that a few unpleasant interactions could mar the overall experience. In conclusion, the compasses is a place that could easily become a regular haunt if the management improves their people skills. Until then, consider it a mixed bag where you might want to visit for the ambiance and food but brace yourself for the occasional turbulence with the manager.

It's a real 'go to pub' for friends and family, great for kids too. The manager and staff have been great everytime we go with our kids, proving colouring, extra cutlery and making sure we have everything we need. Great location, friendly atmosphere & space! Would recommend!

Had a lovely meal in here last night. We arrived to discover that the table that we had reserved was next to warm open fire. After eating our food which was tasty and delicious a live band started playing, I ask you, does it get any better than that ?! Fabulous !! Thank you

A huge outdoor area for sunny days and a cool traditional style interior was a choice for us. We went indoors as we found a quiet corner- perfect with two dogs and a pram. We all ate well. Staff were friendly and efficient.

It is a very nice country style pub in the middle of Tunbridge Wells. Log Fires burning yesterday, bringing that quintessential English charm to a pub on a chilly spring day. Great beer. nice people. One of my must go to places to visit when I am in the town. Richard

Visited for dinner on a Monday evening. Great atmosphere and a really pretty pub with plenty of character and a good selection of ales. Alex served us and took great care of us, going above and beyond, and even knew a bit about the pub history too! The food by the chef Sam was absolutely brilliant, everyone enjoyed their dishes but the standout item was the steak and ale pie. Dog friendly pub with dog treats at the bar.

This place has all the atmosphere of a scrapyard in winter. Very cliqué. No phone signal. No parking. Freezing cold.

Really disappointed, as went for a family lunch on Saturday 06.08 that we wanted to be special. The service was poor due to staff shortages, about 1/5 of the menu wasn't available including fish dishes, all the tray dishes and the plant powered bowls, which left a very limited choice for my wife. The food arrived staggered and my mum's steak had to be sent back as it was too tough. Also, there was no gluten free menu despite there being one badged on their website. The only reason I gave 2 stars rather than 1 was that they gave a refund for the steak versus its replacement dish.
