We went here to celebrate a graduation. We had a lovely seat tucked away by a window overlooking the River Lune. The food was lovely and the cocktails hit the spot. The service was good but we did feel a little forgotten at times. Nevertheless I would definitely recommend a visit if you are in Lancaster for a special occasion.

Being local and hearing good reviews about the restaurant I finally thought I'd treat my partner. We were both really disappointed. For a fine dining establishment with fine dining prices we could have had a better experience and better food at a pub or cafe. I had chicken supreme, the chicken was dry and over cooked, the sauce was barely lukewarm, the asparagus was cold, and when asked if the food was OK, I mentioned the sauce and asparagus which was replaced but the sauce was still only lukewarm. My partner had the beef bourguignon, she was also not impressed as the sauce tasted burnt. I had a piece of the beef and it tasted like it had been stuck to the bottom of the pan and burnt. She wasn't asked how her food was after I'd mentioned my meal. No follow up conversation about the meal and they were happy to take our £122, extortionate for what we both considered to be no more than poor pub grub. Would not recommend.

Stayed for three nights in the beautiful Williamson room. This charming boutique hotel is exceptional. All the staff were friendly and couldn't do enough to make our stay perfect. The breakfasts were some of the best we've experienced (although by the third day we had to ask for half portions!). We dined on two nights, with both meals and every course wonderful, we're not surprised this is the best restaurant in Lancaster. Beautiful wines and cocktails also. Such a wonderful stay and we were made to feel so welcome.

Excellent classic french food, with friendly but relaxed service. We were sat right by the window in the upper floor, giving us a great view out over the river. Would definitely recommend.

Fantastic. Brilliant food, excellent service and staff. It's a little on the pricier side but honestly worth the extra for the quality of the food and surroundings. The place has a great atmosphere inside and all the staff were super friendly. The food was too quality and all served up right on time. A great place for a special occasion or date night.

Rib eye steak was full of gristle and fat, some of the "edible" meat was chewy and tough, some was ok. Chips were cold. Staff were friendly and attentive but the meal was massively overpriced, no where near value for money. I will not be eating there again.

I took my wife to QSF to help celebrate her 70th birthday. We were greeted as we entered the restaurant and immediately shown to our table. The waitresses were very attentative and the food was outstanding. Absolutely amazing. The restaurant had placed balloons on our table and at the end of our meal gave my wife a firework desert, it was fantastic. We really enjoyed the experience. QSF welcomed our little dog and even gave her a bowl of water. I can thoroughly recommend this restaurant. Great atmosphere, and excellent value for money, tremendous food with a subtle French twist that is very difficult to find anywhere else. Thank you.

Had an amazing meal. I called in advance after booking online to arrange with staff about proposing to my girlfriend. Not only was the food perfect but they were so accommodating and went out of there way to make sure everything went perfectly. Can not fault the service or the food both were amazing

Quite simply the best restaurant, menu, and service in Lancaster. We’ve been coming here for years and it just keeps getting better. We usually have the steak but went “off piste” on our last visit and had the venison. Hands down the best meal we’ve ever had at QSF. Rob and the team are amazing. Can’t recommend QSF highly enough.

Beautiful rooms and restaurant! We stayed in the Williamson room, the decor is stunning with no expense spared, clever lighting and everything you would expect in a boutique hotel room. Parking included in the price just behind the hotel is very handy. We ate both evening meal and breakfast in the restaurant. The food was delicious, in fact the nicest breakfast i've had in a long time, cooked to perfection with great quality produce. The staff are very attentive and friendly, genuine interest in customer experience. We would certainly stay again if visiting Lancaster.

Never fails to impress, even after all these years. My wife and I have been going to QSF for over a decade now and we love it just as much as we did the first time we went. Exceptional food, service and staff. Already looking forward to our next visit.

After hearing many good reviews I took My Wife here tonight for her Birthday. It was very busy for a Tuesday to be Fair!! My Wife had a fillet steak worth £40 to come with gravy on the top it came with cold asaparagus raw bacon and daughinoise which we’re bland and just incredible Dry. I had a rump steak which was over cooked, dry and just overall really disapointing. £6 for french fries which were cold we left all of them and all the daughinoise. I thought the Mussell starter was lovely and would reccomend seafood here. I really think this was down to how busy the Resturant was as all our friends really Give good praise about QSF.

Don't judge a book by its cover. This restaurant is far more interesting and decorative on the inside than the outside. Very friendly welcome. Lovely food and drink. Great atmosphere 👌

Simply French is easily the best restaurant in Lancaster !!! The food is absolutely fantastic and all the staff are really nice people 👍 My Dad passed away a few weeks ago and the staff at Simply French were so kind to my Mum when we went for a meal last Sunday. My Dads favourite restaurant 😀 I would highly recommend Simply French !!!

Delicious food. Two vegetarian selections. Would have liked more, but the tart tatin was excellent. Staff were friendly and helpful. It would have been good if they had been wearing masks, but I guess this isn't mandatory yet in hospitality. Nevertheless, it would have made me feel slightly easier socialising indoors. Portions were generous. It's quite expensive. This was a Xmas lunch though so I didn't mind that too much.

Very nice restaurant, but as is the case with many French Restaurants. The vegetarian options are just OK. Knew this going in though, so can't really judge! The meat options looked amazing though, one can only dream that the same attention was given to the herbivores amongst us.

Great atmosphere for my big birthday. Staff very attentive and front of house manager brilliant. Food was a very high standard. Didn’t give 5 stars only because lighting was low to read menu. But we’ll worth visiting a Lancaster institution for food etc.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Our experience at Quite Simply French was nothing short of extraordinary! The unshelled smoked prawns were a delightful beginning, setting the tone for the incredible meal that followed. The Chargrilled Line Caught Seabass and Seafood "Pot-au-Feu Style" were a seafood lover's dream—fresh, flavorful, and exquisitely presented. The real showstopper was the Chargrilled Lancashire Beef Fillet—a masterpiece of culinary artistry. Each bite was an explosion of flavors that left us craving more. The ambiance, with its warm and inviting atmosphere, added to the overall charm of the evening. The service was impeccable, making our visit truly memorable. Quite Simply French has earned a permanent spot on our list of favorite dining destinations. Highly recommended for an exceptional dining experience!

Absolutely beautiful rooms, service fantastic and the food is gorgeous. had the lamb shank with mash and kale, it was to die for. Will definitely be returning as one night wasn’t enough 💕

Our first visit since pre-covid. Food was good and in general the service from the young lady was really good. However, there was no check back on our starter and it took 10 minutes before we received a check on our main courses. Unfortunately, the coffee was disappointing. What bothered us was that when my husband asked for the bill, due to the mirrors upstairs, staff reactions were very visible which wasn’t ideal. However, we will be back as we really enjoyed the food.

We ate here for the Simply Squiffy menu and as always it was outstanding from start to finish. Tom and Evie were fantastic and very tentative, true assets to the team. We will be back again soon.

We eat here on Saturday evening (we didn't stay in the hotel). The setting, the interior and the service were all excellent. The food was very good, especially the starters. However, three of us had the wagyu steaks, which at £40 were a little disappointing. The staff are great. We would definitely go again, I just wouldn't order a steak.

Had a joyous family meal here! Great, classic French cuisine and good cocktail and wine selection. Great, attentive, personal and personable service. Hearty provincial French portions and well seasoned and cooked dishes.

Quite Simply Wonderful. We have just returned home after dinner, bed and breakfast at QSF and what an experience. From arrival to departure it was excellent. We were joined for dinner by family and all four of us had dishes that were spectacular (the goat's cheese creme brûlée being just one example). The staff were attentive, friendly and very helpful; probably the best negroni I have had in a long time! Our room was perfect and the view over the river quite simply splendid. Breakfast this morning was delicious; the home made baked beans being a real delight. In terms of value for money, especially today, I doubt you will get better in Lancaster. We shall be back.

I can easily say I give QSF a full 5 stars, I took my wife for our anniversary meal last night and the whole evening was relaxing, refreshing and total value for money. They served on time and gave that special attention to detail, the food has to be the best in our small but traditional city. Many thanks to all the staff

Have eaten and stayed here previously and it was excellent, however we had dinner for our Anniversary recently and we were very disappointed. I had to send my mussels starter back because they were so chewy I couldn’t eat them. I then had some more of the scallop popcorn which were very good but I asked for a fork and never received one. The sea bass was just ok and my husband’s steak was just ok. Have recommended here several times, so sad to see the decline.

Travelled from Preston to eat here. I have to say although it was OK, there is certainly room for improvement. The service was very good, staff were knowledgeable and attentive, and my food was OK, but it lacked the quality we have eaten at other french restaurants. We would go back but only if we were local

Just superb, this has to be one of my favourite places to eat in Lancaster. It isn't cheap, but it is worth every penny. The goats cheese brulé as a starter is an absolute must, the frogs legs are also really tasty. I had a rib eye steak this time; cooked to perfection. The wife had a goats cheese tart, also beautifully cooked and presented. And it went down with a wonderful French malbec. Staff were attentive and very good. What a place. Just sublime.

Had a fantastic night. The food was excellent and the service by the waitress Gabriella was outstanding. Not the cheapest place to eat but was well worth it.

  • 4/5 Samuel L. 2 years ago on Google
Atmosphere was nicely close and intimate. Service was friendly if a little slow but acceptable and good for having a long drawn out meal. The food was a little hit and miss, when ordering a blue steak at a French style restaurant, you sort of expect a nicely seasoned barely seared steak not a medium rare. Wine list was above average for Lancaster but still not fantastic.

The best food I've ever had in a Lancaster restaurant - the town in which I live. Very helpful, patient and polite staff. I had garlic ciabatta for starter, aubergine with vegetables and mozzarella for mains and creme brulee for dessert. Tonic water with a slice of lemon to wet my beak. So there you go! no meat, no wine, and it was still the best taste experience. All at a candlelit table on the floor above, with a window to the Lune Estuary.

Service, very professional. Ambiance, really good. Food... Out of this world. The confit duck was unbelievable, and if I ever have a last meal I want dauphinoise potatoes from here. Expensive, yes - but definitely worth it.
