Amazing and mesmerizing attraction. Located 10 km from La Paz city. The area is a fascinating geological formation that looks as if it is the surface of the moon. The Valley of the Moon was formed due to erosion and rain wearing away the clay soil upper part of a mountain resulting in this unusual landscape.

Fun day trip hike. If you are like me, take your time with the altitude as there are a number of steep stair climbs. The big circuit takes about 45 minutes and there are plenty of places to rest. Very unique rock formations and cityscapes. The price for non-Bolivians was 15 bobs so not cheap yet still affordable. We took an Uber up from La Paz and the man was kind enough to wait for us to finish for the second ride home.

Very interesting place. Easy to catch a minibus that goes to Mallasa from San Francisco church in center of La paz to here. Takes about 40 minutes and 3 BOB. Valley is beautiful and worth the visit. Entrance fee is 15 Bob. there are two paths to walk. 45 minutes and 15 minutes.

This park is quite small and doesn't have a lot to do in it. The longest route is 45 minutes and that's if you're taking breaks. The view itself is nice, but in my opinion wasn't worth the ride from the city. If you are in La Paz and you have a lazy day then it could be nice to visit and it's not expensive. But I think there's no reason to come here specifically. The entry is 15 Boliviano which is cheap in comparison to other attractions. There are buggys you can ride and see the park from outside nearby, but it would cost more money.

Be prepared to hike for at least 45min. Thin air altitude may make it a bit difficult. Sights are great!. If you go early morning is best for pictures without other visitors in them.

Those are interesting rock formations, maybe not as spectacular as in Ethiopia, China, Egypt or Jordan and covering rather a small area but still an amazing place to visit in La Paz if you have a couple of hours to spare.

Interesting rock formation in the city center Not spectacular like other rock formation sites around the world Can be better maintained as a tourist attraction You can see the La Paz golf course rated as the world highest championship golf course

What has happened over the countless centuries when strong winds have battered the clay and sandstone mountains is that you now have a wonderful natural phenomenon which looks like a vast tapestry of stalagmites called “VALLE DE LA LUNA” or the Valley of the Moon. This is quite typical of the mountains surrounding the La Paz region. Valley of the Moon is about 20 to 30 minute drive from La Paz near the small town of Mallasa. The entry ticket is 15BOB for foreigners and 3BOB for locals. A trail takes you into the valley and along the formations. Like any trail over natural terrain it is uneven and narrow at places but many spots to sit and enjoy the beauty and take photos as well. It can take about an hour to two hours to walk the entire trail and take in the fascinating natural wonder. In 1969 Neil Armstrong, the man who walked on the moon, while playing golf at a nearby golf course saw this formation and it reminded him of what he saw on the moon and hence the name - Valley of the Moon. Special note:- While walking on the trails, please talk in low voices as the sound carries and gets amplified in narrow surroundings.

Erosion at its very best. Dry to the extreme, an interesting place to visit if you are in La Paz with two hours to kill. Fee to enter less than $3. Some parts of the trail outside the main path are a bit scary with no handrail in sight. Overall a must see.

The main loop is a short trail and fun to do with family and friends. I visited this location on my second day in La Paz, so I was out of breath many times but this wasn't a significant issue. I just needed to take it slow. The entry fee for me was 15bs (a little over 2 USD). We walked the main loop and were there less than 90 minutes. If you forget to bring water there is a small market across the street. This place beat my expectations and I'd suggest checking it out at least once.

To the southeast of the center of La Paz, about 10 km away, you will find the impressive Moon Valley. Countless gray-brown clay-containing rock formations in the most varied of shapes were formed by corrosion over millions of years. A path made of clay soil leads through the area.

Located 10 kilometers from La Paz downtown, it is a stunning rock formation that got its name by Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon, during his visit to Bolivia, he was really impressed with the similar moon surface, and he suggested to the president named this place “Valle de la Luna”. this company will help you with your tour "Inti Travel" WhatsApp number +59176767665

Worth the visit but a bit tricky to get to - definitely take the long route and little outcrops. Shooting practice across The Valley added an eerie feel.

Amazing place to visit in La Paz. It’s super close from our place so we went there by foot only. The view is so nice, you need to pay 15 bolivianos as tourist and 3 bolivianos for locals.

amazing park with easy, medium and difficult sections to climb. scenes are beyond stunning and worth time for quiet reflection, learning the history of the surrounding valley, it’s people, everything.

Great afternoon trip in La Paz ! All the family loved it, the place is well taken care of, path is easy to follow, staff is friendly and the price of 15bob for foreigner is really with it 😃

We absolutely loved it here. One of the most interesting and beautiful places we have been in South America. The only trouble was we had to rush through as we came later in the day. I imagine it just be stunning first thing in the morning.

This is a municipal protected area of a geological formation, located around 10klm away from La Paz city centre. You can come here with Mi Teleferico and then grab a mini bus that will leave you outside the entrance after a 30' drive. The name of the place was given by Neil Armstrong who happened to be in the area in 1969 for a golf match. When he witnessed the place, it resembled a lot to the surface of the moon that he very recently had visited. The soil is made of clay which has a high degree of erosion from rainwater and atmospheric elements. The end result is a desert of rocky stalagmites.

Valle de la Luna, located in the outskirts of La Paz, Bolivia, is a truly unique natural wonder that left me absolutely mesmerized. This natural park is a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to the region, and the ticket price of 15 Bob for foreigners is more than worth it. From the moment I arrived at Valle de la Luna, I was struck by the otherworldly beauty of the landscape. The park features an incredible array of rock formations, canyons, and valleys, each of which has been shaped by centuries of natural erosion. The landscape is simply breathtaking, with a mix of earthy tones and vibrant colors that create an otherworldly experience. Walking along the trails in the park was an incredible experience. The rock formations are unique and stunning, and I felt like I was walking on another planet. The natural light that filters through the canyons and valleys creates a play of light and shadow that is simply mesmerizing. Every step I took in Valle de la Luna revealed a new and fascinating landscape that left me in awe. The park is very well maintained and clean, and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They provided me with useful information about the history of the park and the rock formations, which helped me appreciate the beauty of the place even more. In summary, Valle de la Luna is a natural wonder that should be on everyone's list of must-see destinations in La Paz. The ticket price of 15 Bob for foreigners is more than reasonable for the incredible experience it provides. If you're looking for a unique and awe-inspiring natural attraction, Valle de la Luna is the perfect destination for you.

Not bad kinda cool... Very interesting formations. Almost like they got pushed up instead of eroded and melted down. There was a guy with a pan flute or something on top of one of the spires. He's in one of the photos if you look carefully...

I was there in 2008 and remembered it as something wild and wonderful. This time around it seemed much more organized for better or worse. A little park, about 45-60 min to walk the "long" trail. It's nice but lost most of the original magic.

Interesting place just a short taxi ride from the city center. The stones are interesting but for me the best part was the local musician playing his flute for tips. No need to book from a tour company just take a taxi/uber there and back.

Valle de la luna or Valley of the Moon is a fascinating earth formations. It takes anywhere between 15 to 45 mins to finish the hike.

It's an amazing sight to behold. Easy to get to by bus, I spent about 2 hours there wandering around and marveling at the spires and remains of erosion. You can 'do it' faster if you don't have time, but it's worth the trip if you have half a day. There are places where you can fall if you wander off the main route and are not careful.

Beautiful and cool to see, but some photos can be misleading as they don't show the true size of the geological formations. Don't expect colossal mountains, but there are some very cool sightseeing spots and it can be a relaxing place if there's not too many people.

Just a great piece of nature to see in La Paz. Its a little bit a pain that you have to pay 15 Bs. as a foreigner compared to 3 Bs. for nationals… But its totally worth it, although I recommend not to climb the stones - I did and it was pretty sketchy, as the stones are not really solid.

Visited here in March, 2020. This place is literally like the moon and we can feel we get lost in a different world. It is also worth knowing more in the perspective of geology and this region's long history (even though I have no backgrounds in this field). Those who like these fields would definitely love this moon valley. Personally I think this mysterious valley should be emphasized much more as one of the best sightseeing spots in Bolivia. As for its access, this is a little far from the downtown, taking about 1 hour by bus. The thing is that local people seemingly know that this valley is kind of popular among tourists, and they taught me the right bus stop when strolling around to find it even though I didn't say I wanna go there. Anyhow enjoy your trip here, and be careful about bees (there are a lot).

This place is AWESOME! Eroded pillars of white Andean mineral in a condensed area with walking trail, hygiene facility, many photographic opportunities, and places to just take in the 360° mountain vista that surrounds La Paz. Reminiscent but different from Bryce hoodoos. Well named "Valley of the moon, because the unique features and especially the white color do make you think of the lunar surface. An easy drive compared to other mountain views.

lovely place to visit for unique scenic views just 20 min away from the city. Foreigners have to pay 15bs while locals pay only 3bs though.
