I really enjoyed my visit to this museum. It helped me understand more about the evolution of culture in Bolivia over time. The displays on metalwork, costumes, and masks were my favorite, but I also spent a good amount of time in the numismatics room. The building itself is also a beautiful component if the visit. If you find yourself in La Paz with a couple of free hours, I highly recommend.

This museum has tons of interesting objects around bolivia. A shame the panels aren't written in english.

I really loved the museum. The masks and feather head wear were amazing, like nothing I'd seen in a museum on my whole SA trip (six months). I also loved the description of the traditional dress and locations around Bolivia - super interesting. I wish more was in english so I would have a better understanding of some things but it wasn't necessary to enjoy!

Unscheinbares Museum, das von Raum zu Raum interessanter wird. Sehr gut gestaltet. ___ Wenn meine Rezension für dich nützlich war, bewerte sie bitte als hilfreich.

Small but underrated museum. Costs 20 BOB for foreigners to enter and an extra 20 BOB to take photos. The masks gallery was the highlight but feathers section also lovely. Captions are only in Spanish. Staff are very friendly.

Outstanding! I entered with no expectations, just because I had some time to waste. I didn't even bought the ticket with the right to take pictures. Big mistake. In such a way that I consider buy a second ticket and go for another round. The masks exhibit as well as the feather decorative objects exhibit are a total blast. But the other rooms are good too and the building worth a visit by itself.

I really liked the museum, the collection of masks maybe is the best in the world I didn’t make a tour but I guess it’s worth it

This museum was top tier. I had a lot of fun. If you're interested in history this museum will fascinate you. The masks section was so elaborate and cool. It seemed pretty straight forward where to go on the first 1-7 then it kind of got confusing where else you were supposed to go for the last portions. But it was enjoyable throughout. I had to pay extra to take (flashless) photos but it's worth it.

Beautiful building and interesting exhibitions, definitely worth a visit. My favourite was the mask room but there is a lot more to explore. Coins, feathers, caps, textiles... Special thanks to Mari who speaks very good German and patiently guided me trough the whole museum.

Wow, the mask collection is absolutely mind-blowing! Only downside: Everything is in Spanish. So worth the 20Bs entrance.

  • 5/5 Clem H. 1 year ago on Google
Excellent museum, very well built. Be careful, there are 3 floors with 8 exhibitions, so it will take you 2+ hours to admire it all. English explanations should be available through qr codes.

Cute Museum, worthwhile to visit. Costs 20 Bs for foreigners. Unfortunately, there are no English Infos available at all. The pieces exhibited are beautifully set in scene and the rooms are ordered by topics. I was the only visitor in the whole complex.

Probably one of the best museums I’ve been to. I thought it looked a little small from the outside, but it’s actually huge. My favourite parts were the videos, the masks, and the photographic exhibition

  • 5/5 Andreas K. 1 year ago on Google
A fantastic museum that has among its exhibitions, a collection of textiles, hats, traditional clothing and pottery from different regions of Bolivia. The by far best and most striking sector is the traditional masks display, stemming from the many different native tribes of the country. In addition, there is a section covering the currency history of Bolivia, full of coins, banknotes and bank cheques. The museum is located in the 18th century Marquis de Villa Verde Palace, a fascinating colonial building on Ingavi street.

(Translated by Google) I think it is the best organized museum in La Paz, with the history of the original people and the actuality of their culture. It tells step by step the source of its wealth in mining, peasant production and the folklore that beautifies its population. It also shows the diverse Bolivian territory, from the huge Salar to the highlands to the high snow-capped Andes, such as Huayna Potosí.

Detailed exhibits on the various parts of Bolivian culture. A few of the artifacts were pre-columbian, but not many; the museum still painted a fascinating picture of the local history and traditions.

Quite expensive for a Bolivian museum and not much information in English. Costs extra to take photos which I don't think is fair. Good content and a lot to see, well cared for and curated

  • 2/5 Manuel M. 10 months ago on Google
It‘s ok, but the fact that you have to pay 4 times the price as foreigner and the descriptions are just in spanish is quite funny. Although I have a solid knowledge of the language it‘s still hard to understand history and cultural vocabulary.

  • 4/5 Justin B. 5 years ago on Google
Interesting and wide ranging exhibits giving a great overview of signifiers of Bolivia’s culture. 4 stars only because exhibits would be farther reaching if translated to English. More a slight on my lack of Spanish.

  • 5/5 James D. 4 years ago on Google
Great museum, if your Spanish is not up to reading captions then ask for a guide. They are excellent and free.
