The Pena Palace is for sure the attraction you want to visit in Sintra but plan to spend some time in the surrounding park. It is really stunning with many beautiful things to see and in general it is so relaxing to walk around this beautiful nature. We ended up spending approximately 4 hours on the whole site including the visit to the Palace but we also wanted to check all the points of interest that are highlighted on the map within the park. This was hands down for me the best place I would suggest in Sintra. If you want to skip the Palace or you do not have enough time I would definitely suggest not to skip the park! As a last note, it is important to take into account the fact that walking around the park can be easy to moderately challenging depending on your level of fitness because there are a lot of ups and downs.

Beautiful palace but a miserable experience during a rainy day. Not only was it foggy, but it was actually pouring rain the whole day and the winds were insane. Only up close could you get the chance to see the yellow paint and take a decent photo. Of course this is no fault of the palace, it's still a must visit, but on a rainy day there is very little to enjoy here.

A beautiful and dense park with lots to see and explore as you walk around. Certainly one not to be missed if you’re visiting Sintra.

The Palace is interesting…yes. But, the park is stunningly beautiful. We’re from New York City, so we know a little something about tourist crowds (and how to find our own little peace through the chaos). I think that’s why we loved the walkways all throughout the park — from the top (the cross), to the bottom (the lakes), we spent hours saying to each other “let’s take this path and see where it leads us.” A wonderful way to spend the day.

Just a few steps away from the crowds you can find silence and walk alone along winding paths. I loved it. I recommend an app like Komoot to navigate since there are no signs and Google Maps only covers the main tracks.

Beautiful park, worth the €7 entry. A lot to explore though the sites are quite a distance between them. Easily a 2-3h trek around

Such a beautiful park to explore with so many interesting structures and ponds along the way. So peaceful to walk through all the different paths, with the occasional glimpse of the Castelo dos Mouros and the Palacio da Pena, sitting high up on the hill top. It's possible to go by tuk tuk or bus from Sintra town to the Palace or Castle, but much more interesting to walk through the park instead.

One of the most stunning parks I have ever seen. If you love nature, make sure you have a few hours to fully enjoy the area. There are also ducks, swans and geese by the lakes and lots of different birds everywhere else in the park. I highly recommend the Queen's fern valley!

This is the reason to go up to the palace. Don’t walk up, get a tuk tuk to the palace and walk down these gardens, take you time to explore! They are strange and dream like with all the foreign species and more ferns than I’ve ever seen.

The park is not kept at all, lots of dead vegetation, wild vegetation, few flowers in the gardens, lakes are not cleaned. It's more like a wild forest than a park. I don't think it's worth more than 10 minutes.

The best entrance is at 38.7891045, -9.3921686. There is parking, but I would recommend just catching a ride if possible. The parallel spots are free, but the normal spots are paid; usually full after 12 pm, and you'll have to wait for someone to leave. This park is better than the pene palace itself. Tons of small old buildings hidden amongst a very green forest full of many types of plants. The ponds have massive koi fish in them, and swans and ducks swim on the surface of others. The boulders are massive, the trees are tall, and everything is covered in vines, mosses, and clovers. It's the most fairytale like forest I've ever been in.

Mixed feelings about this. The grounds are lovely but unkempt and in serious need of having some money spent on them. A pleasant walk up with some interesting sights. The castle/palace is pretty hideous from outside but the interiors are very interesting and worth seeing. Best with a guide to tell you the history. You can just go to the gardens. It is very crowded, even in November. The views are excellent. Overall it's worth it but there is a lot of climbing so it's not for the unfit. The chapel stained glass is amazing. It shows the chapel and if you zoom in on the stained glass window in the image you can see amazing detail. Small cafe and decent toilets.

Beautiful paths in the park. Lots of beautiful huge boulders even as big as a 2-story house! You can find yourself in pure solitude here.
